Hold on Michael Silver, According Jason Cole two sources on the players side indicated late thursday that a deal could be done as early as Friday. Now I know some fans may still be frustrated fromt he lack of solid proof that this thing is actually getting done but I really think there is some truth to this.

Hurney went on record to say he is undecided about the first pick yet. He also states that teams haven't called yet about trading the pick.

Cat Scratch Reader Why is Blaine Gabbert a top prospect in this years draft?

So I was watching Charley Casserly's break down of Blaine Gabbert vs past NFL QB today when I came across a shocking realization or "conspiracy theory" as some of you may call it. Charley Casserly's one of Gabberts biggest supporters was kind enough to do a breakdown of  Blaine Gabbert vs the recent first round QB's and if you haven't seen it here is the link.

Now here is Casserly's rankings of Gabbert vs other first round QB's:,,,after the jump...

Apparently according to Mike Florio Gabbert, his brother tyler and another Missouri Linebacker got into a fight last year outside a pizza place. No arrest was made but Police suspect all parties involved were likely had been drinking despite the fact Gabbert was under the legal age limit.

Well so much for "perfect character" and no "character issues" that some of our fellow members were so high on Gabbert about. We will see how this effects his draft statues come draft day.

Cat Scratch Reader Mel Kiper off Blaine Gabbert bandwagon?!

Well, the hits keep coming for Blaine Gabbert as now one of his biggest supporters Mel Kiper was interviewed by Peter King and this what he supposely said:

"Blaine Gabbert. Lotta people comparing him to Drew Bledsoe coming out, but I don't see it. I'm not buying into Gabbert. I know he runs a 4.65 at 6-5 and 235, and I give him credit for doing it with a poor receiving corps, but I think he's shaky. You realize he completed only 38 percent of his throws 15 yards [and farther] downfield? And he was only 44 percent on third down, with six touchdowns and five interceptions? You know what Andrew Luck was on third down last year? Seventy-one percent. [Gabbert will] go in the top five, but I've got him down past 10 -- not exactly sure where right now. Still finalizing that. But he and Newton will be around 12, 13 for me."

Tom Sorensen has reported that the Panthers are down to three prospects at number 1. Cam Newton, AJ Green and Patrick Peterson according to him are the only ones that have a realistic shot now.

Well according to Adam Schefter then yes... He says he fills Cam is the one to beat for the number 1 pick and lets remember he was the first to call the pick of Bradford at number #1 last year.

Cat Scratch Reader This pretty much sums up my feelings

Since some of you at CSR have suggested that I make any post about Gabbert, a fanpost, instead of commenting of the frontpage stories then I will do just that. No I am not here to write out a list of complaints about Gabbert but more so provide a link to sum up just how I feel. When you read this article I suggest you read it with an open mind and ponder on it a minute or two. Then I advise you to go and watch the kid on youtube and come up with an well thought out opinion....

Cat Scratch Reader Jon Beason's Rap

I know this kind of old but I just wanted to know whether or not you guys have heard Jon Beason's rap song from when he was with the Miami Hurricanes. It was pretty interesting to me and Beason may have a career ahead of him after football. The name of the song is 7th Floor Crew also features Greg Olsen from the Chicago Bears and other former Miami football players. Let me know what you think.

Cat Scratch Reader JAMIE DUKES WOW LOST ALL THE LITTLE RESPECT I HAD!

Hey Panthers Fans! Jamie Dukes the Overweight Clown on NFL.com says the Giants have a 5th Preseason Game against us this week! I have officially lost the little respect I had for this clown. I mean who does he think he is anyway? I mean what has a done to beable to come out of his face with such a stupid disrespectful statement about the Panthers. WHAT HAS HE DONE IN THE NFL TO CLARIFY HIS RIDICOULOUS STATEMENTS? Has he even made a Pro Bowl?

Somebody please tell me because this guy really doesn't like this team and if you ask me he is a Colt/Saint boat rider. I can't believe NFL.com let this ridicolous overweight slob call himself a "EXPERT".

O YEAH if you are looking for some GIANT fans to argue with just go over to NFL.com Gamecenter with the Panthers and Giants looks like there having a really heated debate over there...

Cat Scratch Reader The Good and The Bad: Panthers vs Jets

Hello, Panthers Fans its DT3428 here to through in my opinion of what went good and what went bad in last nights loss to the Jets. The Final score 9-3 says everything about this one, it was a very very very sloppy game for both teams but it wasn't nearly as sloppy for the Jets as it was for the Panthers. Let me start off by saying that you may find my opinions and analysis as very to somewhat negative but i am just keeping it real with you guys.

Cat Scratch Reader A deeper look into the Panthers DE position

With the youth moment throughout the Carolina Panthers roster and the departure of All-Pro DE Julius Peppers the Panthers appear to be pretty dry at the Defensive End position coming into April's Draft. Coming into this years draft Defensive End seems to be one of the teams greatest needs with questions about our ability to rush the passer with the departure of Peppers. Today i am going to farther analyze our players who are currently on the roster playing the Defensive End position.

Here are the current players on Carolina's roster at DE

Everette Brown 6-1 256lb 22yrs. 2EXP

Tyler Brayton 6-6 280lb 30yrs. 8EXP

Charles Johnson 6-2 275lb 23yrs. 4EXP

Eric Moore 6-4 268lbs 29yrs 5EXP

Hilee Taylor 6-2 250lbs 23yrs 3EXP

First we are going to analyze Eric Moore and Hilee Taylor. Both of these guys are basically depth chart players. They are decent backups and can come in and replace a starter if an injury occurs. They provide depth to the and bodies at the position. Next is Tyler Brayton who was at one point released by the Panthers and then resigned by the team. I strongly believe the Panthers bought him back because of the lack of leadership present at the position and on the D-Line. Brayton had a solid season as a starter in 2009 posting 46 tackles and 5 sacks. Brayton mostly played on running downs because of his run stuffing abilities. In fact i believe Brayton was the best run stopper at the DE position in 2009. He will almost surely compete with Charles Johnson for a starting spot in training camp.

Now we come to to the guys i really want to key on in this article: Everette Brown and Charles Johnson

Chuck Burton / Associated Press                            (AP Photo/Charles Krupa)

Expect to see these guys in the QB's face more often in 2010

Expect to see former Georgia BullDog Charles Johnson alot next year as he has a chance to compete for the starting job in 2010. Johnson also posted solid numbers last year from the backup role with 25 tackles and 4 sacks. Johnson he who played mostly on passing downs from either the DE spot or DT spot, has a heck of alot of potienal. From watching all of the Panthers games last year i have seen that this guy can rush the passer. I think if given a chance to start he can really wreck havok in a opponents backfield against the pass and the run. Expect this guy to compete with Tyler Brayton for the starting spot next year and be in the DE rotation next season.

Last but not least we have Florida State product whom Carolina traded this years 1st round pick to move up in last years draft to get: Everette Brown. Because of his signature spin move, Brown is a guy that alot of drafts experts compare to Indianapolis Pro Bowl DE Dwight Freeney. In 2009 Brown post 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Historically it takes Defensive Ends to develop longer than other positions. For Example in the 2006 draft with the first pick the Houston Texans selected NC State's DE Mario Williams. Many so-called "Experts" critized the pick saying that they should have pick USC runningback Reggie Bush. During that season it seemed like they were right as Williams posted just 4.5 sacks. But the next few seasons Williams posted amazing numbers with 14 sacks in 2007, 12 sacks in 2008 and 9 sacks in 2009. The point of this story is to show that many Defensive Ends need time to develop their skills and adjust to the game speed of the NFL. Brown is quickly learning that his signature spin move that worked on almost all Offensive tackles in college doesn't nessessary work in the NFL. Just because Brown only posted 2.5 sacks doesn't mean that we wasted this years first round pick like some fans are claiming but it does mean he may need more time to develop his hand skills and how low he gets coming off the ball. Because the Panthers were so high on Brown in last years draft i think he is mostly likely going to start. But one of his and Charles Johnson's biggest problems is the ability to bring the QB down when they get in the backfield. I have seen games where Brown and Johnson wouldv'e posted mutiple sacks if it weren't for there inability to bring the QB down.

Overall i think Panther fans should feel good about the potienal of some of the young guys we have at DE. With Brayton, Johnson and Brown i expect at least 20-25 sacks between the 3 of them. With the of potenial Johnson and Brown i see why the Panthers are turning to the younger guys on the roster to step up and play. I think they still need to draft a DE in the 3rd or 4th round to add more depth or maybe step in and play if Brown or Johnson don't produce like expected. Overall I see a solid 2010 season pass rushing out of our DE group that we have here in Carolina, that as Panthers fans can help move us out Peppers shadow.

Cat Scratch Reader Dwayne Jarrett a #2 receiver in 2010?

In recent and past drafts the Panthers have went after a reliable number two receiver to compliment steve smith. Now whether or not these attempts have been successful is debatable. The Panthers have signed a number of free agents in past years like Keyshawn Johnson, DJ Hackett, and they even brought back longtime favorite Muhsin Muhammad. Some of this guys have turned out to be somewhat successful but none of these produced the results the Panthers and some fans were looking for expect for the Muhsin Muhammad who did an decent job at receiving and a outstanding job in run blocking. But currently none of these guys are on the current roster leaving us with Steve Smith, Dwayne JarrettKenneth Moore, Carly Martin, and recently signed Dexter Jackson. None of these names jump out and you except Steve Smith who recently expressed he needs some help on the other side of the field. I think one of the answers to the Panthers questions at receiver is Dwayne Jarrett and here's why:

Here's more:

Drafted in the second round of the 2006 draft many people including myself thought that Jarrett would become of instant starter and success. But sadly he couldn't even beat out 35 year veternan Mushin Muhammad for a spot at number 2. The years went by now coming into his 4th NFL season and here's his stats for 2009:

2009: 17 rec 196 yards 1 TD

I know these stats aren't impressive but standing 6-4 216lbs i can say this guy has potential to be decent if not good receiver and i think next year is his breakout year. I think the problem for Jarrett in the past few years has been at quarterback. The fact is when Jake Delhomme was running the offense all he did was target Steve Smith. He almost never gave Jarrett a chance to have an impact on the field. The Fact is he never threw the guy the ball, simply put Jake never gave Jarrett a chance to make a play like he did Smith. Thats why i don't consider Jarrett a bust i just label him as an unprovin product. Even though Jarrett never earned a starting spot in practice, lets not forget that Matt Moore never actually earned a starting spot in practice either but look at him he's coming into the 2010 season as a starter after a outstanding performance at the end of the 2009 season. Some players are gameday players and thats what i think Jarrett is. Lets look back at the last game of the 2009 season which was Jarretts best game as a pro. Here's his stats:

Wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett #80 of the <a class='sbn-auto-link' href=

vs Saints: 5 rec 68 yards 1 TD

Ok even though they were the Brees-less Saints is not the point, the point is that Matt Moore actually threw him the football. WOW!!!!!!! and look what happened when you give the guy a chance he actually put up decent numbers. Now anybody watching this game saw the one handed catches, 4th down conversion and the long 30 yard TD catch before halftime. My point is this man can catch and play receiver if given a chance even though he doesnt't have elite speed i still believe with Moore running the offense he his going to throw him the ball and give him a chance to prove himself, something that jake didn't do. Now i still believe that the Panthers need to draft a reciever in the second or third round but i also believe that fans shouldn't sleep on Jarrett this year either.
