Gonzo has 12 catches for two touchdowns. Last season, the Falcons had 19 catches for two TDs from the tight end spot all season. Meanwhile, in Kansas City, where Gonzalez labored for 12 seasons, the Chiefs have just two catches from the tight end spot and have yet to win.

From BobGretz.com:

Didn't know if anyone had seen this, but maybe we were wrong about the grievance all along...LJ is staying?

"There’s so much bad information out there about that grievance hearing over Johnson’s contract. The Chiefs did not file the action, neither did Johnson. It was filed by the NFL Players Association. The Chiefs weren’t trying to prove anything, other than to defend the language in the deal that lifted the guaranteed money in this year’s salary because of his suspension. The whole action was pushed by the NFLPA."

Raiders Sign Jeff Garcia

Sorry not a bunch of details I just heard this on the way to work this morning.

The Raiders signed Jeff Garcia to a 1yr deal to "back up" Russell. I dont really have anymore details but it looks like the Raiders actually did something that wasnt completely stupid. This could be good for Russell to actually have someone to learn from, not that I want him to get better. But I miss the old Rival days when it was tuff but fun to watch K.C. go at it with Denver and Oakland especially.

Bob on Dorsey

610x_medium

via cache.daylife.com

I know we have all had this convo. here about Glenn Dorsey, and whether or not he's a bust.....or hes this or that. Frankly I think he had a Decent Rookie year and will only get better. And hopefully one day be a dominating DT...Anyway, this is a really good article that Bob Gretz wrote about Glenn Dorsey. He makes some valid points.

off subject but this has been one of the most exciting offseasons so far and we havent even signed any players yet........

enjoy the read!!

Anquan Boldin

Ok I know that a  WR isnt one of our most pressing needs, and most likely I dont see us running after any too hard in FA. But i thought this was kinda interesting to see. I know he asked for a trade request earlier in the year....and still might want one after this year as crazy as that sounds.

What does any think we have of actually landing Boldin, or the likely hood we actually try to get him.

heres the link

Dorsey

I really wanted to do this for each rookie we've seen significant playing time from and could actually get a decent evaluation of.

I know you cant label him a bust hes only played 13 games, and I know the learning curve for linemen, and I expect him to get better(another impact player on the line would help) According to stats ive seen on here hes already passed The Great Warren Sapp in tackles, hes just has 2 less sacks. If you asked me Dorsey was brought here to stuff the middle pick up the double team and push the inside back. But what good is a double team when your DE cant beat anybody 1-on-1

I just wanted to know everyones thoughts on Dorsey are and where you think he will be next year.

Problems

im at work so ive got to make this fast

from what ive been reading and hearing i thought id highlight a couple problems and see what everyone thinks.

Can we even evaluate good talent, or help players to grow? ( and i dont mean our new draft picks) Things like why havent we seen more D-Williams at linebacking with how short we are. What about other LB's we let go Fujita, Mitchell or even Walden and Savage I thought they were great role players. Lets not forget the one of the reasons our running game has gone down hill Tony Richardson. ( yes I know we didnt have shields or roaf....im just saying)

Or the signing of DVD and his great get caught from behind speed!( he has 7 catches this season) Mark Bradley was a good sign! But we would have never firgured that out if we didnt start running the spread...  I think we have poor talent scouts.

Dont take this the wrong way but with a season pretty much wrapped up why arent we given more of our raw players some play time EX: richardson, morgan.  Now overall  we have given our young players plenty of playing time and i think that is great.

Ive tried to give Herm a chance but more and more Im starting to see how incompetent he really is. He consistently makes poor game decisions. I read a recent article at warpaint that pretty much nailed my whole point on this one.

Sorry I know its very scattered and not detailed but duty calls

Whats everyones stance on some of these issues?

D doesnt always win Championships

Im not a big stat guy so im going to try and make this as short and sweet as I can.

Herms a defensive minded coach and thats good but to me D doesnt take you all the way. You've got to have an offense and actually put TD's and not FG's on the scoreboard.

here are some stats I found online from the Ravens D over the last couple years.

2001  Points allowed per game (16.6) 4th best in NFL  take/give aways [-8] 23rd best that year they lost in the 1st round of the playoffs

2003 (17.6) 6th    [+3] 9th            lost in wildcard

2004 (16.8) 6th   [+11] 5th        no playoff appearance

2005 (18.7) 10th  [-10] 28th     no playoff appearance

2006 (12.6) 1st   [+17] 1st       lost in 1st round

sorry Im at work and didnt have time to find pass/rush yards but the point im trying to prove is even with a D that can shut out opponents you still have to be able to score. To me these are the most important stats anyway how much you let the other team score and how well you take care of the ball yourself.

sorry its a pretty sloppy post.
