Jets reject Revis' latest offer

105

"The New York Jets rejected a contract proposal made last Friday by Darrelle Revis' agents, painting a bleak picture Monday of the contract stalemate. A grim-faced Woody Johnson said he's not optimistic about their chances of signing the All-Pro cornerback to a new contract before the start of the regular season."

The Ravens surprisingly cut cornerback Walt Harris just eight days into training camp. The team replaced him with Chris Hawkins, an undrafted rookie cornerback out of LSU who was recently released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Harris, 35, struggled to pass the team's conditioning test. He said he had a sore Achilles tendon. Harris then frequently missed practices this past week. The Ravens signed Harris in June to add depth to their cornerback group. He intially declined the Ravens' veteran minimum offer. The Ravens then increased the deal with incentives to sign him

Ravens Third In Peter King's Preseason Rankings

37

"3. Baltimore. I think the Ravens have hit a few home runs this offseason, and those moves could carry them to the AFC Championship Game. I like the remake of their receiver corps. Anquan Boldin won't make it through 16 games healthy, but he'll give Joe Flacco a good, physical target for 12. Donte' Stallworth will be reborn as an effective third or fourth wideout, with the speed at the position the Ravens haven't had. On defense, I wish I saw something better at cornerback than waiting for Lardarius Webb to come back from knee surgery sometime this summer so that the starting corners opening day aren't Chris Carr and Domonique Foxworth. Defensive coordinator Greg Mattison obviously has to be hoping for it to be third- and-long so often (with a great run-stuffing front) that he doesn't have to worry about the more than occasional coverage error downfield."

"In a blockbuster trade, the Cleveland Browns have traded wide receiver Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets, signaling that the Browns are in serious rebuilding mode -- and that the Jets are serious about winning right now. Adam Schefter of ESPN first reported the trade. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports later reported that the Jets sent two draft picks, wide receiver Chansi Stuckey and linebacker Jason Trusnik to Cleveland." http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/10/07/browns-trade-braylon-edwards-to-jets/ Mangini helping out the team that just fired him?

Al Saunders is in Baltimore

21

Al Saunders is in Baltimore, Working with Cam. I've heard whispers that he was in Pitt on Thursday scouting the Steelers. "AL SAUNDERS SURFACES IN BALTIMORE Former Chiefs offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Al Saunders is now working on the Ravens coaching staff. Saunders had two years left on a contract he signed before the 2008 season with the St. Louis Rams and was planning to sit out the season and enjoy some downtime. He turned down several offers. But then the Ravens called and it was a situation that Saunders found very enticing. He still owns a home in Virginia from his time with the Washington Redskins and is just 45 minutes away from the Ravens complex. "This is a class operation," Saunders said before the game. "From the owner, down to the grounds crew, they do things right." Saunders is working with offensive coordinator Cam Cameron."
