Time to take a deep breath: Looking at the big picture
Everyone is freaking out over the QB situation but with a loss to the Bengals this week-end it will be completely irrelevant.
With a tough run coming up against: Tennessee, Green Bay, San Diego, Miami, Detroit…..there is a good chance that this team will be entering week 9 at 2-5 or 1-6.
Orton will be benched and he will be gone in the off-season. If they aren’t beating Oakland and Cincinnati at home then they won’t be winning many games this year (especially with these injuries).

Playing the Odds
Here are a bunch of scenarios, and the percentage chance or odds that I see of them happening. Feel free to chime in with how likely or unlikely you feel these scenarios are.

Gabbert and Newton: Let's pay a visit to fantasy land
People read about these guys being in the discussion for the first overall pick and instantly assume that they are of the Stafford, Bradford, Luck caliber. That truely could not be any farther from the truth. These two men have serious problems, really serious flaws in their games.
Just think about this hypothetical situation. Imagine if Tim Tebow was in this draft, and you told the Panthers and Broncos this:

MHR Oddity: Peterson or Fairley
This post is meant to simply make the community think when they next find themselves arguing over Peterson or Fairley. I have found some of the arguments to be short sighted and hopefully this post will bring the big picture that is the Denver Broncos more into focus as opposed to the current state of this debate.

Allocating resources: Luck vs. Tebow
There have been many posts based on this topic, and this post is going to be no different. The common theme between the posts on this topic is that someone believes Tebow will be an elite QB and they proceed to view the offseason based on this assumption. The other type of post is based on the assumption that Tebow will not be an elite QB and the author proceeds to describe their preferred outcome based on this assumption.
This post is based on Tebow as a prospect and Luck as a prospect and what they mean as resources for building a Franchise.

8 Games to go
Through the first 8 games there have been some good moments, and many bad moments. With the Broncos being 2-6, I wanted to take a moment to bring up some areas that should be of importance for the remainder of the season, as well as something to build on for the future.

Self Evaluation: Do you have the employees that are capable of answering the tough questions?
This week Mr. Bowlen should sit down and evaluate his team honestly. The situation in Denver has officially hit rock bottom, and an evaluation of his team and its employees is in order. When owners evaluate their teams and make the conclusion that the right pieces are in place and only time is needed for hopes to come to fruition, then they are doing themselves a disservice.
During his evaluation he will undoubtedly come across many questions about the roster and the employees. How will these questions be answered and what is being done to answer them is what is vitally important. If you do not have a question about a player, then you can be happy about that facet of the team. If you have a question, then the answer is not more time. That is a possible solution, but it is hardly the definitive answer.
This post is how I evaluate the roster, and the questions that I would be asking if I was Bowlen. A plan must be put in place to answer these questions. Giving it more time is not a plan, it is a hope.
Hopefully some people will get some value out of this post, and I encourage you to answer the questions for yourself as you read along. I also encourage you to stop after each personnel grouping and ask your own questions. This type of evaluation will hopefully help you when forming opinions on the direction of the team, and the outlook of the team heading into coming weeks.

MaxDenver: McDaniels on Bailey
Good article with some new quotes from McDaniels.
One possibility down the road that hasn't been discussed is that the Broncos use the Franchise tag (assuming there is one) to give themselves more time to work out a long term deal.
In the end, if the Broncos want Bailey (as it seems) then they will be able to work something out.
Is that the dawn I see?
This past game against the Colts was a particularly difficult game to watch, mostly because I felt like the opportunity to take a massive step forward as a team was there but things did not workout.
Disclaimer: For the people that are irate (for lack of a better word) with the current state of the Broncos following this loss, this post will certainly make your blood boil over. For this reason it may be best to skip over a “Kool-aid” post if you have found the Kool-aid to be particularly bitter the past couple of days.
However, if you watched this game on your own, away from the internet and after it was all said and done you reacted with: “Oh man that was right there…. I can’t wait to continue watching these Broncos grow-up”. Then you are in the same boat as myself.

Cottage Review: Preseason week 2
I was not at the cottage this week, but I am not creative enough to figure out a different name This week I chose to focus on:
TE Marquez Branson (#85)
OL D’Anthony Batiste (#67)
DT Chris Baker (#75)
OLB/DE Jarvis Moss (#94)
OLB Kevin Alexander (#48)
CB Perrish Cox (#32)
The time remaining in the quarter is listed at the beginning of the note as well as what quarter the play occurred in
For Cox there is a breakdown of his coverage numbers. The first number is the number of completions against him, the second number is the number of attempts to his coverage responsibility and then the number of yards that the receptions went for. It is tough sometimes to see the coverage responsibilities and at what point a guy like Cox passes off his coverage if they are in zone.
There is an additional number for Cox that represents the number of times that Calvin Johnson was targeted while he was being covered by Cox. So, the first number is the number of targets and the second number is the number of pass plays that Cox had coverage responsibility for Calvin.
For the Defensive players under their name is a tally of the Missed Tackles (MT) as best as I could determine.
For Batiste I was particularly interested to see what kind of help he was getting in pass protection. There is a number under his name 6/22, this means that he was given help (double team, chip from HB or TE) 6 out of 22 pass attempts. This number is strictly for his plays in the first half (with the first teamers, at LT).
These Notes for these players are of exceptional plays and exceptionally poor plays.
I have added some notes on the game as well at the bottom.

Cottage Review: Preseason Week 1
I was at a cottage for a couple of days with my laptop and the tape of the Bengals game. I normally make my notes by hand, but chose to fill my time by typing them out for this game and have decided to post them for anyone interested to read.
these notes are only for:
LG Beadles
C Walton
CB Smith
ILB Mays
DL Thomas
I added other miscellaneous notes at the end
My tape starts at 6:36 remaining in the first quarter. score is 7-0 Broncos
Not all plays for these players are listed. While that is partly due to only having the broadcast angle. I have also chosen to leave out what can be considered typical plays. These notes are of exceptional plays, and exceptionally poor plays.
The time left in the quarter is listed at the beginning of each note, with the quarter in brackets. I also made a running tab of Alphonso Smith's coverage assignments that I could see. For that the first number is the number of completions, the second number is the number of attempts thrown his way and the third number is the number of yards the passes went for.
there is also a running tab for Smith and Mays on missed tackles MT= X with x being the number of tackles missed.
Also please keep this in mind. I am not a professional scout, I do however have an extensive background in football. I give some very favourable evaluations to some of these players. These evaluations are fair and honest with limited bias (I wish I could say no bias, but the very fact that I am a Broncos fan means that I have a bias ingrained in me), and if the player plays well then they deserve a favourable evaluation. If you are the type of person who is going to bash a guy like Alphonso no matter what, then please bring with you evidence such as the time of the play that you are mentioning. I have watched this tape 3 times and everything in here is exactly as it happened, and all of my opinions are formed based on re-watching each play numerous times.

Trading Down
I am very interested in the possibility of trading down from #11 in this draft. I think if two or three additional young guys can be added behind the veterans that we have, then it will pay off huge in the long-run. I have been spending some time the past couple of days looking at who might fall to #11 and which teams would be interested in going up to get them. If you guys have any additional thoughts on players and teams that might want to move up to get them, then please let me know.

Marshall's Future
There has been alot of discussion about Brandon and what he will be traded for. Some people suggest that his minimum trade value/gain is a first and third round pick, this statement could not be any more true, but it also is highly unlikely.

Trade possibility worth considering
There will be alot of ideas floated around for trade partners, and possible deals.
If i was calling the shots in Denver, i would look very hard at swinging this deal.
the glass is half full of orange punch
This post is not intended to say that if Cutler is gone that the broncos will be fine, it is however designed to put the MSM perspective...back into perspective.
some thoughts on the offseason
I think everyone is having trouble truely figuring out what they think about the situation surrounding the broncos.
here are some thoughts of mine on what has happened so far.

my take on mcdaniels thoughts and actions.
keep in mind that the NFL is a business.
this is a couple things i think, when considering the perspectives of Mcdaniels.
My broncos FA and Draft primer
Team needs
1) Nose Tackle- the most important position in the 3-4. currently noone on the team that can occupy this role.
2a) ILB - 3-4 inside backer. Larsen, DJ are a few names that are being thrown around as possible suitors for this position, neither player can anchor the defense and it is a guarentee that at least 1 inside backer will be drafted in the first 3 rounds.
2b) DE- a 3-4 player, that should be of starting quality. Marcus Thomas, Powell and Crowder are being floated as possible players to fill this role on the current roster, i do not know enough about the way in which these players would translate into a 3-4 DE, but it is safe to say that any switch to end will be met with a "wait and see" approach
3) Safety- a couple starters are needed in this area. depending on what happens in free agency this position may be a later round prospect to compete with barrett or at some point match up with him to form a solid young tandem, or it may be an earlier pick that will compete for a starting job right away
4) Rush OLB- once again part of the 3-4 scheme. Dumerville and Moss will get a chance to fill this role, but if an elite player can be drafted, then the broncos certainly will jump at that oppurtunity.
5) RB- an elite running back is all that seperates the broncos from being the top offense in the NFL, however I only see a few scenarios where a top pick would be used on a tailback. The current roster is filled with players that can potentially fill this role with Hillis, and Torrain being the most noteable.

I found this site when i was trying to find a broncos pre-season game on the internet and i have returned here everyday since because of the communities intelligence.
