3.10 Frosty Mug: Strange Brew 3 - Back to the Minors
Thank you AP photog/dirty old man, Morry Gash, for that fine picture taken yesterday. Seriously, why take/publish a photo like that? Simple. So juvenile bloggers like myself would post it.
Something to read while you're clipping coupons.
I think Kyle is back tomorrow. You're only stuck with me for one more day and then I head back to the minors. All apologies, my blogging skills have gotten a little rusty. If Kyle ever has me back, I'll do a better job. Thanks for the kind words in the regards to my daughter yesterday......she appears to be getting better.
Yesterday, the Brewers took on the Little Bears to the south and won 5-3. Jeff Suppan was back to his below average self. The guy has been mediocre his entire career and will be for his final season with the Brewers. If we can get .500 ball out of #5 starter, I won't complain. Until I realize we're paying him $12 million dollars.
HardCore is still complaining about the weather.
TH is also drooling all over Carlos Gomez.

Boston Herald has a feature on Billy Hall. “It’s kind of a gift and a curse when you can do all the things I can do.” EXCEPT HIT A BASEBALL!
Today the Crew take on the Padres in Peoria. Is Doug Brocail still alive? I remember getting his autograph at Spring training in 1993 when he was with the Padres, yet he was still pitching last season. Did he retire or is he with another team?
The stadium tax won't end as originally predicted. It apparently will take at least an additional 2 years. (Just don't read the comments, your head will hurt)
Quickly before I go, as a Nebraska native, I'll offer one last ditch pitch for you to attend the College World Series in Omaha this June. It's truly a fantastic event that's about to be ruined by the NCAA. This is the final year at it's home for over 50 years, Rosenblatt Stadium. The NCAA is moving to a new stadium in a different part of town. Lost in the move will be the neighborhood surrounding the stadium that adds so much charm and personality to the event. Listen, if the ping is what bothers you, trust me, you'll get over it in about 2 innings. Plus, you get a chance to see future Brewers play ball (off the top of my head) Ryan Braun, Geoff Jenkins & Kyle Peterson. Every year there seems to be at least 2-3 players drafted by the Brewers at the CWS. Here is the plea I wrote in '09 on the Daily Drink. First game is Saturday June 19th, I'll see you then.
Around The League:
I found this pretty interesting. I don't think it would ever gain a ton of steam, but interesting none the less. "Floating" realignment in which teams would not be fixed to a division, but free to change divisions from year-to-year based on geography, payroll and their plans to contend or not. (FanShot) Floating realignment also could mean changing the number of teams in a division, teams changing leagues and interleague games throughout the season, according to several sources familiar with the committee's discussions. It is important to remember that the committee's talks are very preliminary and non-binding.

Damn that photo is ripe for a caption.......have at it in the comments.
Something to read while you and your drinking buddies sing Savage Garden to your significant other.
Dan Walsh here, filling in for Kyle today and tomorrow. This is the second time I've filled in for Kyle, the first time I did we talked about pizza. I use to write the Daily Drink over at the now-defunct SportsBubbler.com, which has now become The Fan Cave. Lately, I've been posting over at Rubie's blog Quevedo at the Buffet talking Marquette Basketball. You can find me under the name Admiral Ackbar, S.J.

First off, I apologize for the brevity of today's post. My 10 month old daughter decided to recreate Linda Blair's famous scene from The Exorcist this morning and that kept me from writing as much as I would have liked.
It's raining again today in AZ, who knows if they'll actually play a game.
Yesterday, we got the Brewers on TV for the first time during Spring Training. Both Parra and Bush did a fine job and nothing was really decided on the rotation. If you believe what we've been told, they're battling for the final spot in the rotation. But unless Parra has an absolute meltdown, Bush is going to be the odd man out.
Gamel still appears to be bothered by a bum shoulder.
Tom Haudricourt has his story on Scott Schoenweis losing his wife last year to a drug overdose and how he's trying to keep his kids strong. How he is able to keep things going with his kids after losing their mother, is a feat all on its own. Adam McCalvy also has a story on Scott.
The Brewers made their first Spring Training cuts yesterday. Victims include Alex Periard, Eric Arnett and Kyle Heckathorn.
A-Dub says......ok really I'm not gonna link it, cause nobody cares what he writes.
Winks has some thoughts on the game.

Miller Park Drunk has your topic/discussion of the day. To Go or Not To Go: An Opening Day Conundrum. Me? I fall in the Not To Go. Why? (here's my attempt to not sound like Walt Kowalski) Opening day is amateur hour x30,000. I haven't gone in years. I used to work for KTI & 620WTMJ and we'd go out and have a major presence in the parking lots, but dealing with all the drunk listeners coming up to the booths was no fun. Maybe it was because I wasn't bombed out of my mind at 10am, but I couldn't take it. Listen, I enjoy a nice malted beverage like everyone else but I can control my beer intake. Most people use Opening Day as an excuse to get completely hammered. I have no desire to join in that behavior. How about you?
Ryan Braun is the next Joe DiMaggio? So says the Bleacher Report.
FanHouse warns Prince Fielder that Barry Zito WILL HAUNT YOUR DREAMS! Hopefully next year's Spring Training will start with Prince Fielder slowly stepping up to the plate, then charging Barry Zito for no reason and beating the crap out of him.
Drew Olson from OMC has a spring training preview with 10 Points to Ponder. A late move? Brewers GM Doug Melvin often talks about picking up a puzzle piece when teams are preparing to break camp. If another team has to cut a player late due to roster limitations or implications, Melvin could be ready to pounce and a player not in camp today could have an impact.
A kid from UWM named Jonathen Ede took a stab at the Brewers infielders and you can read it here. Although McGehee was brilliant in 2009, the jury is still out on him. He really never was great in the minor leagues. Good maybe, but not great. His .859 OPS literally came out of nowhere. It was his first .800 plus OPS in his professional career (including minors). Based on history alone, some regression is going to be expected.
Jim Gantner wants you to be healthy.
Mat Gamel's Wish List.
Young hearts be free tonight. Time is on your side,
Don't let them put you down, don't let 'em push you around,
don't let 'em ever change your point of view.
Oh boy, former Milwaukee Brewer Jason Kendall made TMZ. Story includes the fact that Rod Stewart's son is hooking up with Kendall's soon-to-be-ex-wife Chantel.
Adderall? Wikipedia has all your answers.
Former Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy Dolan made a joke about the Mets. Perhaps showing the depth of his faith, Bishop yesterday told New York Mets fans to hold out hope.Asked how he kept his faith rooting for the Milwaukee Brewers, Dolan cracked: "Did you ever hear of St. Jude, the patron saint of impossible causes? Now we've got the Mets."
Happy Birthday to former Brewer Wayne Franklin.
Warning, the rest of this post is pop-culture and not related to baseball in anyway shape or form.

As I used to do on the Daily Drink, we close with a music video. Since it's two days away, 311. They're also coming to Summerfest June 25th.
Wednesday's Frosty Mug - Strange Brew
Something to read when finding all my grammar errors.
Kyle is off for the next couple of days (Where is he? I'm not saying) and I'm the first of numerous fill-ins. I'll be setting the bar fairly low. Who am I? I'm Dan Walsh from SportsBubbler and among other things for the site, I write The Daily Drink blog. I like to refer to myself as a lowly blogger working for a dying newspaper company. The Daily Drink is more of an All-Wisconsin sports/pop culture-style Frosty Mug. Kyle has filled in for me in the past, so I'm returning the favor. I'll do my best not to stray too far from what he does. Don't hate me just yet, I'm the guy who scored Kyle all the Seth McClung schwag swag for the "Bring Back Seth McClung" Facebook Group.

Best New Link of The Day: Pizza? In Milwaukee, the new site Doctors of Za has you covered. Added Value? Anthony Witrado jokes. Who could that T. Mario guy be?
Over at MLB Trade Rumors they look at the Center Fielder trade market. It's the biggest non-pitching question mark that the Brewers have besides catcher this offseason. The general consensus is that Mike Cameron is gone and the Brewers are going to give Jody Gerut a shot at the CF position until Cain is ready. When looking at the list from MLBTR, it makes Jody Gerut all that more appealing. There are some absolute dog contracts that I have no interest in seeing on the Brewers payroll.
Brewers Locker wonders if the Brewers should talk to the Dodgers about Juan Pierre. Pierre would bring a .301 career BA and .348 career OBP. He brings s bit of speed on the basepaths. He also brings to the table not an ounce of power. Is he what the Brewers need? Would you take Pierre over Cameron, or Pierre over Gerut?
Adam McCalvy talks about Mark Rogers being picked for the AFL showcase. His numbers in AFL may not have justified it, but his numbers in Brevard County did. Kudos to a kid who has been through hell and back because of injuries.
Adam also points out that Bill James has high hopes for Mat Gamel. The real question is, do the Brewers brass still have high hopes for Gamel?
Bernie's Crew ranks the Top 5 Brewers catching prospects. Lucroy, Salome, Garfield, Zarraga, & Roberts. While over there at SportsBubbler, make sure to check out our other fine Brewers bloggers, The Junkball Blues and Between the Green Pillars.
Mark A talked about small market teams being shut out this postseason. Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio thought about the teams in baseball's final four this year — all large-market clubs — and wondered whether there would be room for his franchise anytime soon. "We don't know if that's a trend or just an aberration," he said. "The disparity among the clubs appears to be widening." Listen, if the Yankees want to spend $200 Million every year and not make it to the World Series most of the time, let them spend it.
Some college kid wrote a blog post "Commish for a Day". He wants to kill the wild card, kill interleague play, kill the divisions, kill the DH, kill replay and move the Brewers back to the National American League. It's like the kid is auditioning for a job as a columnist for a major newspaper.
Tonight the Phillies look to extend the baseball season. I can honestly say I'm not terribly interested in the World Series this year. I'll be watching "Modern Family' tonight instead.
From the Wall Street Journal: Chase Utley - The evolved Reggie Jackson. Utley belted two mammoth home runs Monday night, tying him with Reggie Jackson as the only player to hit five homers in a single World Series. What you won’t get from Utley is the bombast that Jackson exuded on and off the field.
Manual is making a mistake starting Pedro again.
The Pirates acquired Akinori Iwamura for the Rays. It's a nice move for the Pirates, but won't have a tremendous impact on the amount of wins by the Pirates.
The mother of the second best pitcher to come out of the state of Nebraska, is probably going to jail.
Speaking of Bob Gibson, he says pitching on 3 days rest is no big deal.

I close every Morning Coffee with a music video, here's one from Todd Snider about Dock Ellis of the Pirates no-hitting the Padres in June of 1970 on LSD. You can follow along with the lyrics here.
