The incessant talk about Peyton Manning is nauseating
If the Colts truly believed it was better for their team to draft an Andrew Luck or a Robert Griffin III, than what sense does it make for the Chiefs to pursue him? Manning is clearly a HOF-quality QB. You can't replace that in a rookie, no matter how good the rookie (which begs the point, if you could, then what would be the point in signing Manning - just go get a rookie). Ok, sure, the Colts suspect they can get 15 years out of Luck as opposed to 2, 3, or 4 years out of Manning. But what purpose does it serve the Chiefs to have Manning for 2, maybe 3 years? It's not certain Manning is even close to the player he was prior to the injury. IF he is, then maybe he'd make sense IF he were capable of playing 3 years, at a minimum. 1 or 2 years doesn't do anything for this team. The Chiefs aren't a championship-calibre team just by adding Manning (hell, Manning's teams were rarely championship calibre - they were 2 time AFC Champions and 1time Super Bowl Champion over a 12-yr career). If it makes sense for the Colts to forego a HOF-quality QB in search of a player capable of manning them for a long time, then that reasoning applies just as well to the Chiefs. Manning goes to a championship-ready team, and it ain't the Chiefs.
Todd Bowles should be in serious consideration as DC
This guy has a proven track record in the 3-4 (Dolphins' 6th in defense).
SportingNews predicted 7-9
before the season. And before the season, I'm not sure too many people thought 7-9 was unreasonable, given that the team was playing a 1st place schedule. And, yet, after all was said and done, this team was the most maddeningly inconsistent team in the league. They began the season as if they were prepared by Herm Edwards (i.e., spotting the rest of the league a 3-game lead), they were incompetent in at least 1 phase of the game during a large middle stretch of the season, and then at the end of the season when the defense played fabulously, the team was among the worst scoring offenses. That they finished 7-9 is rather amazing. If they can get healthy, get a few impact players in the draft and free agency, and get their offensive kinks worked out, I don't see any reason why they can't go deep in the playoffs.
Chiefs likely to draft a junior in 1st round
I get the impression that the Chiefs like to draft players who have completed the entirety of their college eligibility, principally because of the additional experience and maturity the player incurs by staying. Jonathan Baldwin, coming out as a junior, is an example of why one would follow that philosophy - his rookie year was largely wasted recovering from an immature outburst. (I'm not suggesting Baldwin would be more mature if he'd stayed... Rather, more mature players stay through their entire 4 years.) Regardless of all these ruminations, according to the rankings of players, it looks like the best players are predominantly juniors. CBS Sportsline's rankings only show 2 seniors among the top 12 (Devon Still and Quinten Coples).
Why is everyone hot for Matt Flynn?
He's not anywhere closed to as accomplished a player as Matt Cassel. Cassel has excelled, both in his Pro Bowl year last season and for close to a full season at New England. Flynn has started all of 2 games. TWO games.
Orton in a bit of money trouble
Former Bears quarterback Kyle Orton is suing a Chicago law firm for allegedly giving faulty advice on an investment that was supposed to yield large tax credits but instead cost him and other investors millions of dollars.
Hoffman has to go
A very long kickoff return by the Raiders to start the game and 2 blocked field goals were what did this team in. I like Hoffman, but he's got to be part of the staff changes.
The Chiefs are off to one of the worst starts in NFL history
getting outscored 89-10 by a pair of teams that combined to win 10 games last season. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6993178/jamaal-charles-kansas-city-chiefs-joins-eric-berry-tony-moeaki-ir I've lost virtually all interest in the fate of this team this season. I can't watch anymore of this pathetic team. That they've come into the season bumbling and stumbling like this is a travesty. And, while two weeks ago I was really high on Haley, two weeks later I haven't thought so poorly of a Chiefs coach in the entire time I've been a fan. I didn't think this poorly of Cunningham, Gansz, or Mackovic. Fortunately, I don't remember Paul Wiggin but that's who Haley is vying with for worst coaching performance in Chiefs team history.
I'm PISSED!
I'm pissed off I paid >$350 to watch this crap on NFL Sunday ticket. What a waste of money.

Sabby's girlfriend
This is some of the funniest s*&%...
Chiefs are the 9th youngest team in the NFL
10th youngest on defense, and 13th youngest on offense, according to Mike Sando, ESPN
Why is the Chiefs 'musical recap' of last night's practice set to 'Back in Black'?
First, that song evokes the Raiders. It should never be played in association with the Chiefs. And, second, why in the world are the Chiefs providing a 'musical' recap? I'd rather see a 'comic' recap, with 'booms' and 'pows' for thunderous hits...
6 players 30+ years old
On defense, Kelly Gregg, Jon McGraw, and Demorrio Williams. On offense, Casey Wiegmann, Thomas Jones, and Jerheme Urban. Wiegmann and Gregg are in all likelihood in their last season. Interior line and nosetackle likely become draft priorities in '12 regardless of how Hudson and Powe pan out. At some point, the Chiefs have to cut the cord with McGraw and Williams. If Siler hadn't been injured, I would have thought this would have been the season we saw Williams waived. If Washington and Langford aren't ready to replace McGraw, it's time to think about drafting a mid-round safety. Urban is keeping his spot warm until Baldwin asserts himself. Jones will likely be replaced by a upper mid-round choice in '12.
Ourlads depth charts are now free (again)
Not sure how long it'll last, but I always appreciated them when they were free back a couple years ago.
My bet: Gabe Miller to Injured Reserve
The guy, when healthy, has shown good passrush ability, but given that he hasn't been able to practice for 2 weeks and that the competition for roster spots is so high, I suspect they'll let him sit a year.
The fan experience at camp sucks
compared to River Falls. The players in group drills are much further away (the runningbacks were close, I do admit), the team and contact portions of practice were tucked away on the furthest field, and the bleachers are lower. The corporatist aspects of it sucked, too. The defense was largely invisible being a football field away. I can't see much reason to come back, or to recommend others to go.

Cottam gone or on PUP
According to National Football Post's list of transactions: 07/29/2011 Brad Cottam, TE Placed on the PUP list Maybe they're trying to reach an injury settlement?
Chiefs down to 3 players with 10+ years
Wiegmann, McGraw, and Jones (after releasing Waters, Chambers, the retirement of Vrabel, and the free agent defection of Edwards)
The Chiefs do not need to make a splash at Nose Tackle
Those watching Josh Looney Friday night heard him remark that Ron Edwards played 15-20 snaps per game. That's roughly 1/4 of all defensive plays. Glenn Dorsey, among others, too the remaining snaps when the team was aligned in pass defense fronts. The Chiefs may want to spend some time this pre-season developing Jerrel Powe, Anthony Toribio, Dion Gales, and Lucas Patterson for those few plays. Dion Gales has been working with the staff for 2 years - it's a make-or-break pre-season. Hopes are high among fans that Powe pans out. If it doesn't look to be working that one of these guys can step up, then maybe the Chiefs sign Gabe Watson, Ron Fields or some other veteran (or, maybe they sign Aubrayo Franklin tomorrow and we just ignore everything I've said to this point).
Chiefs Roster
The Chiefs always irk me with their failure to maintain a correct and true roster. Yesterday they listed the UDFAs recently signed, today they don't. They also list Greenwood as a DT, and Dion Gales at 259 lbs (he weighed well over 300 last season). Why is it so hard for them to maintain a roster on their website?
Chiefs are largely set at all positions but OT, RB, and LB
I figure the Chiefs are 3 players from their top 53. A runningback group of Charles, Jones, and McCluster could use a young veteran; maybe Battle re-ups? The Chiefs have no established depth at OT; it's unlikely the team can rely on one of their UDFAs to provide the depth they need. A veteran should at least be brought in to compete. And then, depending upon the health of Sheffield the Chiefs might want a 10th body at LB. Maybe they go with 7 D-linemen, but they've not done so since switching to a 3-4.
The Chiefs had 7 players with 10+ yrs in league
2 left (Edwards, Vrabel), 2 re-signed (McGraw, Wiegmann). Waters is under contract and I can't imagine he'll be tossed (I certainly hope not). That leaves Chambers. Is there any chance he returns? Ha!
By my count, the Chiefs are at 68 players
including Breaston, their 10 new UDFAs, draft choices, and players signed this year. That means 22 more names to come.
If S. Smith signs, NT is set
Can we really expect the Chiefs to have more than Shaun Smith and Jerrel Powe at NT? Given that they played with 6 D-linemen for much of the season, it seems unreasonable that they're adding 2 players through the draft (Bailey and Powe), resigning Smith, AND adding another D-lineman to man the middle.
