Dike to trial with Celtic.

Regardless of what you think of Celtic, Scottish football, or the SPFL - this is a great opportunity for Dike. Good luck to him.

Dempsey-gate in the after glow...

Note: Story has been modified because I'm a lousy copy editor. In the after glow of the dumpster fire known as Dempsey-gate, I'm left with a couple of musings. There is one thing that bothers me...

Jamacian International footballer failed a drug test

"On the 23rd July, 2013 the JFF received the following notification from the Chief Medical Officer of the FIFA: "During the World Cup Qualifying match, Honduras vs Jamaica, on June 11, 2013 a member of the Jamaican squad returned an adverse analytical finding on his urine sample." The testing was carried out by the FIFA. This means that the ensuing process will be managed by the FIFA. The player has been informed and we await further information from the FIFA. The JFF has taken this matter very seriously and a thorough investigation has already started by the chairman of the JFF Medical Committee." There no indication of who it is. I certainly hope it's not Ricketts, Powell, or even Palmer.

Chara makes FIFA 13 Team of the Week

I think this makes him the first Timber ever to be so selected.

Gene Olaff: An American soccer treasure

Roger Bennett of Men in Blazers fame sought out and interviewed Gene Olaff - the oldest sentient former United States international. It is worth it to read the whole article, but I especially loved the last paragraph. Where he said: "When I watch television and see that packed stadium in Portland, I cannot believe it is in America. I could never have dreamed of a scene like that when I grew up in the 1920s and soccer was strictly for immigrants," he admitted. "But when you look at my life, you see, it has taken a good long time for it to get to where it is today."

BBC: 'In the six' and football's other strange Americanisms

I found this a bit funny. No mention of "Upper 90's" though...

Should we spend our ex-Boyd DP slot on a centerback?

Seeing that we are starting to get rather thin at center back, I have a simple question:If Merritt is willing to spend, is it worth it to spend our ex-Boyd DP slot on a high-quality centerback? If...

Timbers Silly Season: Keep, Trade, or Throw Away

So since we are in the world-wide transfer season and it's obvious that the Timbers need to make a move - whether to trade for the future or make a outside run to the playoffs - what should the...

Timber Joey on the Men in Blazers Podcast

The Men in Blazers podcast takes time out from their EPL analysis and World War One poetry reading to talk to Timber Joey about his "thoughts on love, life, and chainsaw circumcision." It's a pretty funny interview. Here is a link to the podcast. Fast forward to minute 31 if you want to skip past the interview with Don Garber.
