Gals Guide To MMA This Week's Bas Rutten (not so) Weekly Video of the Week (sometimes)

Hi Folks!

Miss me? I've been super busy and there really hasn't been great Bas videos out there that you guys and gals can't just search for on You Tube.  However, I've got one for you this week!

You have been watching Lights Out on FX, right?  The show about the boxer (who kinda looks like Jon Bon Jovi, but hold all the pomade) who was a heavy weight champ, but is now retired, but hard up for cash?  Well, this past Tuesday we were treated to a little Bas Rutten guest appearance!  Woot!  I couldn't find a clip of just him, but here is the promo for the show.  Yep, that's Bas in the cage!!

If you can catch a rerun, I highly suggest it.  I'm enjoying the series so far, even if the wife's Irish accent goes in and out :-)

Enjoy!

Hello Sweeties!

So, since RCN pulled HDNet, I don't get to see Inside MMA or awesome things like this.  God, how I would LOVE to train here!  If you don't blink, you'll see Amir Perets from my system, Krav Maga.

Favorite quote?  "Bas is the Martha Stuart of MMA".  Ha!

Gals Guide To MMA This Week's Bas Rutten Weekly Video of the Week

Good morning little ones!

Hope everyone is surviving the season.  We're having our annual holiday party this weekend and I can't wait to see certain people there!!

Ok, so this is not really a Bas video, but it's a punk band performing their song "Rambo vs Bas Rutten".  Which begs the question, who would win???  Bas is kick ass, but Rambo has the awesome knives.  Hmmm....

Enjoy!

No video this week, I'm actually just helping you with your Wish List for the holiday season.  What's your wish list?

Dear Santa/Chanukah Harry/Winter Solstice,

Please buy me this doll.  Er..action figure.   It's the most awesome thing ever.  The only thing that would make it better is if it had leopard print thongs on.  You can buy it here.

I'm baaaa-aaaack!  Did you miss me?

Here is a great fight with Maurice Smith from Pancrase.

Here's your quiz, hot shot.  Why does Bas have an "R" written on the back of each hand?

I'm on time this week, folks!

How are we all doing?  Fall is alive and well and living in New England these days.  Which means it brings pumpkin coffees, muffins, donuts, pie, soup...ahh, I love pumpkin!  Growing up in Florida, I can't believe I missed out on so many yummy pumpkin creations for 22 years of my life.  I think I'm making up for that now.

On to our video.  It's a special video--Bas's last fight against Warpath.  I would NOT want to take a kick to the leg from Bas!  You can see the bruise around 4:25--ouch!

Gals Guide To MMA This Week's Bas Rutten Weekly Video of the Week--Late Edition!

Hello Peeps!

Sorry this is a day late!  I was working all day yesterday and didn't get to posting your video (because I know you are all just waiting for it!)

Just in case you wanted more fights after last night, here is a great fight from Bas.  I think I picked it because of the title of the video.

What's everyone doing this weekend?  I'll be teaching Krav, rock climbing, and cleaning my place.  Fun, fun!

Enjoy!

Gutten Tag, Chickies!

It is Oktoberfest!  What are you drinking tonight? I can't do beer because of the gluten, so I'll prolly drink wine.

Here it is, your weekly Bass Rutten video of the week.

You know, there are countless ways I love Bas.  It's mainly for his quirky sense of humor and having fun.  So, I bring you all of his Cartoon Network spots.

Do your kids love Bas?

Hi Folks!

Sorry this is a little late.  I was giving a lecture to the future doctors of America.  Yikes!

So, I have quite the gem for you this week.  We get to peek inside Bas's crib!  It is in Dutch, but there are subtitles to read.  Heck, no need to read...just gaze!

Howdy!

Fall seems to be here in New England...for now.  I'm craving apple cider.  I blame Dunkin Donuts.

Here is your weekly video.  Last night I was thinking about what I want to be when I grow up.  First thought was to make a living writing about and watching MMA.  Then, I refined it to writing about and watching Bas!

Hello my little mushies!

We've got a hurricane a'comin' on the East coast.  If it ruins my weekend plans, Dani's not going to be a happy camper.  Literally.  We're camping this weekend and I can't wait to make s'mores!

Your weekly video of the week is a funny one, as only Bas can demonstrate.  Now, I normally do not promote anything from Maxim, but it's funny and very practical.

Your question for the week: what would you do if you walked in on your S.O. fucking someone else??

Ugh!  How I miss Inside MMA.  RCN took it away on April 1.  What a nasty April Fool's thing to do.

So, I'm giving you a highlight reel of Bas's crazy antics.  I miss him shooting up to the MMA Junkie and his little leopard print banana-hammocks.

Hey-- 1 day away from the UFC Fan Expo!  Woo-hoo!  I'm really hoping to see Clay Guida.  He's my fav right now.  OK, if I run into Clay, what should I ask him??

Enjoy!

Good morning Sunshines!

I needed some inspiration today.  Thus, I turn to Bas.  I think it's a good little mantra to keep in the back of your head: You fight to win.

Let's have some fun!  What mantras do you think other fighters have in the back on their heads? You can be serious or funny.   I'll go first.  War Machine: I can take double.

Fun!

Hello Sweeties!

Just a few weeks until the Fan Expo!  Who's going?  Since I live in Boston, I think I'm obligated to go as I'm sure Beth and Donna would kill me if I didn't! :-)

Here is your Bas Weekly Video of the Week.  Another segment in the FIGHT! interviews.  I think I'd be scared shitless if I was in a bar, knew I did something wrong, and saw Bas coming after me.

Enjoy!

It's been a week already?  The summer is flying by!  Good news--I can drink again.  What are you drinking tonight?  I'll be sipping a nice red wine.

Our video is how NOT to learn a lesson when fighting Bas.

So, what would you do to the person you choked out?  Post to comments!  I'm thinking nothing beats the classic cock-n-balls drawn on the face.

My apologies that you have to see Rob Schneider.

Howdy, Partners!

How is everyone doing?  Me?  I'm melting up here in the northeast.  Because I'm made of sugar.  And it's flipping HOT!!  For a girl born and raised in Florida, you'd think I'd be ok with this heat.  Nope.  You are never ok with this heat, especially when you don't have central air in your place.

Moving on...

Our video this week is another ad Bas did, but it's a really good one...one in which I hope we can all start using a new phrase..."Cancel your face".

Say it with me!  "Cancel your face!"

Hello Everybody!

I know you've been waiting all week for this.  What video will Dani pick??

But first, let's talk about me.  I'm 3 weeks into the gluten/grain/dairy/alcohol-free experiment.  I feel great!  I have tons of energy, I'm focused, and I've lost some poundage.  Can't beat that!  However, I will be having a glass of wine on August 1.  Maybe 2.

Ok, so, on to the video.  You all did watch Fight Science on NatGeo, right?  The one with the MMA fighters?  The one where Bas kicks the shit out of a crash test dummy?  Well, it's worth watching again (sorry for the ad at the beginning).

I think the lesson here, the point of the presentation, is to not get kicked by Bas.

This is late, I know.  Get over it.

So, after 2 weeks of working my butt off, staying late, and getting ready to conduct a big training, it's finally over.  And now I want a nice glass of wine.  But, no-can-drink.  Water it is for me. That's ok, though.  I can laugh with Bas.

Yes, it is true--anything can be a weapon!

Good morning Sunshines!

Here is your Bas dose of the week.  I love him with a goatee.  And, he's shirtless again!!!

It's been 8 days with no alcohol, dairy, or glutten/grains.  Not so bad, although I would love a glass of red wine right about now!

Good morning everyone!

I'm up bright and early to give you this week's Bas weekly video of the week.  It's Thirsty Thursday--what are you drinking?  I'll be downing club soda, as I'll be on the wagon for the month of July.  Why did I pick the month of BBQ's and get-togethers to go alcohol, dairy, and grain/gluten free???  Silly me! I will miss my red wine, coffee with cream, maki rolls.

Also for the month of July, I'll be training my round kicks.  Who better to help me with my round kick than Bas?  Watch the video and train your round kicks with me.  Look out for the special Liver Shot TKO at the end.

Also, Bas is going shirt free in the video.  HOTNESS!

Hi Folks!

You know my love for Bas, right?  Due to this love, the Gals have asked me to offer up a weekly Bas video every week.  So, expect to see a new weekly video every Thursday (i.e. every week).

I'm starting with this one, which, I think, is a really good reminder to NOT start fights.

Remember, as El Guapo always says, God Speed and Party On!

Gals Guide To MMA What's so great about Bas Rutten?

bas rutten

Oh!  How do I count the ways?!?!  I will fully admit that I am a Bas fan, through and through.  And, how could you not be?? Funny, cute, great fighter, funny.  He's got it all.  Here are my pros and cons:

Pro: Dangity-dangity-dangity

Con: Flimsy pink shorts in his first fight.  Thankfully, he learns quick.

Pro: Tight red speedos!

Pro: Do you own his MMA workout CDs?  They will kick your butt!  Love the option of 2 or 3 minutes.  Love his combinations.  2 points for the first commenter to quote from one of the CDs!

Pro: Liver Shot.  'nuf said

Con: Looks like he can't come out of retirement due to his bad knees.  Boo!

Pro: Hosts Inside MMA every Friday night.  And gets to sit next to the amazing, wonderful, super-cute Kenny Rice!  (call me, Kenny.  wink-wink)

Con: RCN cable (my provider) just dropped HDNet.  WTF??

Pro:  He sings, trains, acts, makes funny street fighting videos. Swoon!

Bas Rutten Street Defense - The Better Version

Pro: Big supporter of my system, Krav Maga.

Pro: "Never underestimate the groin strike"

Pro: He's on cartoon network telling kids to do push ups and eat right.

So, readers:  If Bas could get new knees and came back to fighting, who would you like to see him fight?  Also, do you think he'd win?  God speed and party on!

Gals Guide To MMA What's so great about Brock Lesnar?

Complete and full disclosure:  I don't like this guy.  I don't.  Nope.  Not one bit. And you can't make me like him, either.  I haven't liked him from the very beginning.  Sorry, Brock (I can call you Brock, right? ;-). So, as expected you'll get way more cons from me on this one.  Ok, let's get this over with...

Con: Let's start with the obvious--it's been stated on this site before, as well as countless others.  He's got a giant phallus on his chest.  What I don't get is why it's pointed towards his head.  As if to say "Hey, the cock is up here".

Brock_medium

Con: No neck, cauliflower ears.

Pro: He has a WWF background, so he knows how to entertain.  I have nothing against guys who come to MMA from pro wrestling (see: My crush on Bobby Lashley and his tiny nipples).

Con: Diverticulitis, Mono...make a girl swoon!  Seriously, though, doesn't it seem like he's recovering rather quickly?  Was it real, or a stunt to get some attention?  I would hope no one would fake an illness like that.  Any experts in the house to comment on the illness and how long it takes to recover?

Con:  He lied and bad mouthed the Canadian health care system in order to advance his political opinion.  They hosted a kick-ass Winter Olympics and deserve some respect, eh.  And how 'boot that hockey team?

Pro or a Con:  Seems like a loner.  He trains on his own in his own gym on his own land.  He doesn't belong to a team and doesn't seem to have any friends in MMA.  I can't decide if this is good or bad.  It makes me sad for him.  I'm sure he doesn't care.

Pro: He really is a good fighter.  No question about it, the boy can punch.  However, I do think UFC needs to consider adding a Super Heavyweight division for guys like Brock and others over 265.  What do you think?

Con: I really have a hard time that he was able to go for the heavyweight title after only 3 MMA fights.  I really feel like he hasn't paid his dues in MMA. Where were the smaller, regional fights?  The ones in small buildings with no heat for a grand prize of $500?  Seems like he cut ahead of the line.  No cuts, no butts, no coconuts.

So, I ask you loyal readers, what's so great about Brock?  Tell us in the comments.  Have I missed him rescuing puppies or handing food out to the poor, or actually smiling?  He really seems like a mean-spirited d-bag to me.  Convince me otherwise.

Gals Guide To MMA Strikeforce--Carano Vs Cyborg

Photo: Cris "Cyborg" Santos celebrates immediately after defeating Gina Carano on Saturday. Credit: Jeff Chiu / Associated Press

Photo: Cris "Cyborg" Santos celebrates immediately after defeating Gina Carano on Saturday. Credit: Jeff Chiu / Associated Press

Props to Strikeforce for not only promoting a women's fight, but for making it the headline fight. This is huge for MMA and for showing that women can kick some ass. Not to mention, allowing them to fight a proper title fight time of 5, 5 minute rounds. I've always been disappointed in past fights for decreasing the women's fighting time to 3, 3 minute rounds (men fight 3, 5 minute rounds when it is a non-title fight). This isn't basketball--women in MMA don't need different rules when it comes to time. They can train the same, have the same conditioning, and punch just as hard.

(note to Strikeforce--drop the stupid animations showing techniques, drop Shamrock and his man-braces, and for the love of god, drop Mauro and his stupid sayings!)

The Women

This women's title fight is at 145lbs. Gina weighed in at 143; Cyborg at 144. Both have had difficulties meeting weight in the past, although I think it's because the weight was just too light for either of them. (Can I just call bullshit last time about Cyborg not making weight because it was 'her time of the month'--do you see that body? No body fat means no menstrual cycle.) Strikeforce has finally given us a great women's MMA fight--these are 2 fighters worthy of each other. They didn't pull some 120lb girl from Japan or a college boxer who wants to see what this MMA thing is all about. These are fighters with Muay Thai backgrounds who train in MMA with other MMA fighters (not to mention, have some of the best coaches in MMA). They both came in winning their last 7 fights.

The Fight

Stopped at 4:59 in the first round for TKO, Cyborg wins...WOW!!! SO much technique--the punching, the kicks, the sprawls, the ground work, the cage work. This is why I LOVE female MMA fighters. You can see the all of what goes into MMA. Cyborg was good at closing the distance and going after Carano. Her punching power is out of this world. You could see Carano trying to pace, trying to keep the distance and keep the fight going beyond the first round. Carano is there for the fans and wanted to draw out the fight. Cyborg wasn't having it--she came all out and didn't let up. She was there for her. Cyborg is best kneeling over her opponent, and using all of her body and power to punch down. And that's just what she did. Carano was no longer defending herself against the ground and pound, so the referee called it just 1 second before the bell.

You know what else I like about women's MMA? No smack talk. Perhaps it's because the field is small right now, so the female fighters are all in the same pot and support each other. Well, I like it. Gina and Cris hugged it out afterward and were totally respectful of each other through out the hype leading up to the fight and immediately afterward.

Also, how about a shout out for that awesome dragon tattoo on Cyborg's back? (Perhaps we can put her in the running for Tattoo of the Week? - Donna)
