if this team goes 1-3 in September, loose cannon president T.K. Wetherell is going to blame someone. It won't be Bobby Bowden, his former position coach from the 1960s, nor will it be Jimbo Fisher, his $5 million coach-in-waiting who really is the head coach now, anyway.

Mickey Andrews is #2 on Hayes' hot seat.

Tomahawk Nation Is BYU a statement game?

We're all well aware of the issues that have plagued the 'Noles thusfar. Everyone has their own theories and observations as to what is holding us back. Some point to coaching others point to personnel issues. Against Miami we were told how difficult is to prepare for two new coordinators. Against JSU we were told there was a short turnaround and thus little time to properly prepare. In my mind these are all reasonable and valid explanations for the 'Noles rocky start.

Now we are presented with the challege of the BYU Cougars. We head west to a difficult and hostile environment to take on a talented team. So I pose the question, do we have a chance to win this game? In my opinion the answer is a resounding yes.  We no longer have any excuses to fall back on. We have ample time to gameplan and scheme. We have plenty of practice time to work out our assignments. Also, the forcast is clear and sunny. There will be no rain to mitigate our team speed advantage either.

I feel we are walking a fine line with this game. On one hand it could be a major rallying point for the season. If we head out to LaVell Edwards Stadium and earn a win our pain of the last two weeks will disappear. On the other hand, if we go out there and get blown out we could very go into a tailspin for the rest of the season.

In my mind this is a statement game and the 'Noles should prepare as if it's a bowl game. We should have plenty motivation for this one. First, BYU is ranked #7 in the AP (enough said). Second, Vegas doesn't think the 'Noles will win (we're six point underdogs). Third, we should be looking to snap BYU's 18 game home win streak.  Finally, and most importantly, we should know our reputation is on the line.  Every major program has a game which defines its season. This is it. It's time for the 'Noles to step up and bring their "A-game". If we do, I think we're going to be just fine.

So what are your thoughts? Am I just being a Homer or do we really have a chance to rebound and make a statement?
