Throw in the towel for #1 in 2010.
KC is not going to win the division. Isn't it time to give up on this season and go for the bigger reward? SI cover man-child Bryce Harper MAY be draft eligible in 2010. Shouldn't we be doing everything in our power to "trade up"? Could we even afford Harper with the revenue hit we'd take after tanking in2009? Are we going to stand idly by and watch this kid rot in the Nationals system?
Five years after the draft, the Yankees and Red Sox will make the team that owns Harper very very rich.

Rule 5 Draft eligible Pitchers
Eric Cordier is available in the Rule 5 draft. Do the Royals redeem the Tony Pena trade by re-acquiring Cordier?
No mas Blanco
KC Star Tuesday:
*Shortstop Andres Blanco became a free agent when he was sent outright off the Royals' 40-man roster. Injuries limited Blanco, 23, to 30 minor-league games in 2007. He batted .252 in 78 big-league games over the previous three years.
Blanco is still young enough to be a prospect, but you know exactly what you'll get. A light hitting defensive player. Great arm, good bunter.
Nothing against Blanco, but it's a good time for KC to cut bait here. Too many soft hitting SS.

ex-Royal: Off-ensive-erman

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Former All-Star Jose Offerman was arrested Tuesday night after charging the mound and hitting the pitcher and catcher with his bat during an independent minor league game.
Bridgeport police said Offerman was arrested, but did not detail the charge. Police said he posted bond.
Offerman, playing for the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League, homered in the first inning. The next inning, he was hit by a pitch from Bridgeport's Matt Beech and charged the mound with his bat.
Offerman hit Beech in the hands and struck catcher John Nathans in the head.
The game was delayed for about 20 minutes because of the melee. Offerman, Beech and Bridgeport manager and former major league pitcher Tommy John were all ejected.
There was no immediate update on the condition of Beech or Nathans.
Offerman batted .273 during his 15 seasons in the majors. He last played in the majors in 2005 with Philadelphia and the New York Mets. He was an All-Star in 1995 with the Dodgers and 1999 with Boston.
--Is this roid rage?
The pitcher reportedly broke the middle finger on his pitching hand, the catcher may have a concussion.
I hope Offy doesn't make the top 100 - can he be demoted?
