Deshawn Stevenson calls Billy Hunter out

2

Dallas Mavericks guard DeShawn Stevenson, who believes the NBA's labor impasse will wipe out the entire season, blasted the job performance of players association executive director Billy Hunter during the lockout. "I felt like we should have decertified in July," Stevenson told Yahoo! Sports this week while playing in a charity exhibition game in California. "I feel like Billy Hunter is doing a horrible job because basically now [the owners] know our hand. The media knows our hand. The owners know our hand." Stevenson said he believes there is too much acrimony between the players and owners for a deal to be reached and the season to be saved. He said the owners have not recognized the significant concessions the players made during negotiations. "For me, personally, I don't think there will be a season," Stevenson said. "Right now there is just a lot of bad blood and [the owners] keep putting offers out that we're rejecting. So we're not going anywhere."

NBA 'uncertainty' cancels charity game, player advised to prepare for a possible agreement.

INDIANAPOLIS -- A charity game involving NBA players scheduled for Sunday in New Castle, Ind., has been canceled. A release from event organizers says that because of the "uncertainty" of Saturday's NBA negotiations in New York many of the players scheduled to participate were advised to prepare for a possible agreement. The "King of the Castle" event was to pit the Knox Indy Pro-Am League stars against Mario Chalmers' Rio All-Stars. Washington's John Wall, Memphis' Zach Randolph and Los Angeles' Eric Gordon were expected to play.

Another take on the selection of Ryan Kerrigan. I believe better strategic options were available at the time, but I wanted to pass this on as I thought it provided good insight regardless of my personal assessment.

Ted Leonsis: I Think Nick is Most Improved .... Great teams have great back courts. Maybe we have the opportunity to develop a great back court with a three headed group of John Wall, Jordan Crawford and Nick Young. Detroit won championships with Thomas, Dumars and Johnson in the back court. As we have seen there are a lot of minutes to go around and Nick also is big enough to play some small forward. He will be an integral part of our team. Ted Leonsis - Continuing his walkback of an earlier post stating the team has a new Big Three not including Young. This is clearly damage control. But it deserve exposure and discussion, and is the right thing to do.

Washington Wizards: The Team of the Future No One Is Talking About

A comparison of the Bulls rebuild to the Wizards recently linked approvingly on Ted's Take in a post called "I Like This One". The quote that caught my attention: -------------------- "What exactly did Chicago management do that was so special? It was also more of what they did not do. At the end of the 2008-2009 season, as mentioned above, the Chicago Bulls improved by a solid 9 games and made the playoffs almost shocking the defending Champion Boston Celtics in the first round. Many executives, following a similar season, would have ensured that their entire roster remain intact, especially those younger players, regardless of the costs. Especially if that player led the team in scoring and was only 25 years young. I am speaking of course of Ben Gordon." -------------------------------------------- hmmmm....

Roy Williams Tells Harrison Barnes he will be 5th - 11th pick in the NBA Draft

7

"We should be getting updates soon from a number of the top underclassmen. Sources say Kyrie Irving is leaning strongly toward declaring for the NBA Draft and should be making an announcement soon. Ditto for Baylor’s Perry Jones, UConn’s Kemba Walker and Kentucky’s Terrence Jones. Sources say that a number of other prospects including Alec Burks, Jordan Hamilton, Scotty Hopson, Kawhi Leonard, Mason Plumlee, Jeff Taylor, Trey Thompkins and Klay Thompson are very likely to enter as well. UNC’s Harrison Barnes continues to be on the fence however. He recently had his exit interview with head coach Roy Williams. In the interview Williams told Barnes that he would go somewhere between No. 5 and 11 in the draft, according to a source familiar with the discussion. I think Barnes will go higher — likely in the Top 3. The bigger question will be whether Barnes wants to return to a loaded UNC team next year to try to win a championship. Arizona’s Derrick Williams and Kentucky’s Brandon Knight are also wildcards. While both players have explored their draft stock, it’s unclear from sources which way they’re leaning right now." Chad Ford-ESPN --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Later this weekend, reports started leaking that Barnes will be returning for his sophomore year. "According to Marty Tirrell's Twitter, Harrison Barnes will be returning to the North Carolina Tar Heels for his sophomore season. Tirrell was the first to break the news during Barnes' senior year of high school that Barnes would be committing to UNC. He says Barnes will make the official announcement on Tuesday." ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subsequent reports on Monday state Barnes has not made a decision. More to come....

Nick Young decides it is better to be on the coach's good side

+

Looks like Nick Young realized calling out your coach to reporters is probably not the brightest idea. When Nick question the offensive scheme, my first thought was "This will not end well". But I like how Flip responded. "One thing I said to Nick, that part of the problem, if that was the case, is we're talking about offense when it should be about defense. That's why we've lost 23 straight. Defensively, we haven't had that same presence. We've got to do a better job defensively." I hope the message gets through to everyone.
