I have been a fan of the Oakland Athletics since before I can remember. I was a very casual Warriors fan until We Believe, but I haven't thought about relaxing my stance since. I've been a Saints fan since 1999 when Mike Ditka drafted Rickey Williams.

2009 & 2010 stats for all defensive linemen taken in 1st or 2nd round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Players are in order of draft position (left to right = first to last). Scroll to the right to see player rankings for specific stats.
Quick conclusions: Cameron Jordan was a better overall player in 2010, but a significantly better pass rusher in 2009; Da'Quan Bowers, the supposed one year wonder, was arguably better in 2009 than Cameron Heyward was in 2010; Ryan Kerrigan is by far the most accomplished college player in this class; Muhammad Wilkerson looks to have benefited from playing in a mid-major conference; Adrian Clayborn's 2010 was bad for a 1st round DE; Aldon Smith's 2009 was great, and his injury plagued 2010 was more than respectable; Fairley went nuts last year, but was clearly a one year wonder; Phil Taylor's impact better be showing up somewhere other that the stats sheet. Kerrigan averaged 5.5 forced fumbles per year and Paea averaged 4, next best is Clayborn with 2.5 (note Quinn had 6 in his one year).
These are just defensive stats so you can't take too much stock in them, but it's insightful information nonetheless.

Note: Warriors forward Brandan Wright said before the game that he would make his return Saturday against Portland. Wright has played eight games this season, his last appearance being the Nov. 13 loss at Milwaukee. Then, suddenly, Wright developed a lower back strain. The Warriors gave little information about his injury and Wright declined to talk about it before Monday. If he does return Saturday, he will have missed 17 consecutive games.

How much the W's can spend on free agents

For those wondering how much the Warriors can offer a free agent like Amundson, Watson, etc. Remaining Mid-Level Exception, max length of 5 years: $2,314,000 $2,499,120 $2,699,049 $2,914,973 $3,148,171 Bi-Annual Exception, max length of 2 years: $2,080,000 $2,246,400 Those exceptions can be split up among multiple players with varying lengths but cannot be added together. And the Warriors can offer as many minimum contracts as they want with the value depending on how many years the player has been in the NBA. Do you think a 3 yr 7.5 million dollar contract is enough to compete for Lou's services?

Golden State Of Mind Guesstimation: Warriors Salary Situation + Pargo etc.

Update 7/29: I added Pargo's cap value and actual contract (FTW?), changed Lee's contract a little by implementing a 10.5% annual salary increase, and made Tolliver's contract a 2 year minimum, while cutting Devean George who is a class act and a consummate professional.

Preface: Jannero Pargo earns $1,146,337, and $1,265,976 during his 2 yr contract, but according to the current CBA only the value of a 2yr minimum salaried player is counted against the cap and payed for by the team. The rest of the player's salary is subsidized by the league, so I have the applicable amount in the spreadsheet below. David Lee and Dorell Wright's contract values are based on their contracts equaling 80 and 11 million respectively (the media is reporting numbers just under those, but I'm staying simple) and assuming the maximum salary increase of 8% per season for players signed to new teams, and 10.5% with the same team whether they are traded or not (again simple speculation, if it's less than 8% or 10.5% then the cap number will increase a little bit for the first few years, compared to what I posted, which is not ideal if you're thinking about next year's cap space). I assumed that the Warriors will sign Tolliver to a two year contract based on recent news reports. I would assume that all this talk about the Warriors increasing their offer to Tolliver had to do with a second year and/or more guaranteed money and not offering more than the minimum contract values for a player with a single year of experience. Also, the non-speculated info is taken from hoopsworld.com's team salaries.

Player 2010-11 2011-12 2012-13 2013-14 2014-15 2015-16
David Lee $10,238,550 $11,313,598 $12,501,526 $13,814,186 $15,264,675 $16,867,466
Monta Ellis $11,000,000 $11,000,000 $11,000,000 $11,000,000
Andris Biedrins $9,000,000 $9,000,000 $9,000,000 $9,000,000

Ekpe Udoh $3,065,040 $3,294,960 $3,524,880 $4,469,548 Q-$5,962,377
Stephen Curry $2,913,840 $3,117,120 $3,958,742 Q-$5,308,674
Dorell Wright $3,388,368 $3,659,437 $3,952,192

Charlie Bell $3,851,440 $4,099,920

Jannero Pargo $854,389 $884,293

Jeremy Lin $473,604 $788,872

Brandan Wright $3,398,072 Q-$4,580,601

Dan Gadzuric $7,248,325

Vladimir Radmanovic $6,883,800

Reggie Williams $762,195

Anthony Tolliver $762,195 $884,293 (speculation)

Center Please

TOTAL $63,839,818 $48,042,493 $43,937,340 $38,283,734 $15,264,675 $16,867,466

Salary Cap $58,044,000

Luxury Tax $70,307,000

MLE $5,854,000 After Dorell = $2,465,632

Bi-Annual Exception $2,080,000

Note: You cannot combine exceptions and the 48 million dollar cap number is dependent on the Warriors renouncing the exception/restricted rights to all expiring contracts (including B.Wright)

Personal Thoughts: Although Tolliver and Pargo aren't the best available players, they do preserve next year's flexible salary cap situation as well as being competent players who, in Tolliver's case, are familiar with the team. Also, there is still a little room to sign one more player with some of the exception money or simply another minimum contract. If Morrow and CJ had been resigned then next years cap number would increase by about 7 million. So whether you like it or not that was probably the primary rationale for letting them go in sign and trades.

I will re-post when official numbers are available. Until then, consider this a rough estimate.

Basically he's got some offensive potential, especially with a team like the Warriors. And his defense is good not great, yet some potential remains there as well... Potential is becoming an increasingly annoying word these days. Oh, he can rebound his position too.

If you adjust for the trade, and assume David Lee gets $13,333,333 each of his six years (nothing to say it will) the warriors have these commitments:
2010-2011 $60,693,850 (salary cap = $58,044,000)
2011-2012 $43,845,333.00
This doesn't include what Morrow and Watson could make.

Canal Street Chronicles Who would you choose at 32?

I wanted to see who my fellow Saints fans would prefer to have drafted. I only included the players that in my opinion will be around and should be seriously considered. An obvious omission is Sean Weatherspoon. But, I am convinced that he won't be around plus he would probably get a ton of votes and tell us less about everyone's feelings towards the other guys.
Personally I am a bit torn between Price and Hughes, but I think I'd go with Brian Price.

Some scouting reports from one of the many great draft sites: WalterFootball.com

Jerry Hughes

Brian Price

Daryl Washington

Everson Griffen

Carlos Dunlap

Also I would appreciate it if the more experienced CSC members would comment about their selections ( ie stujo, mtnexile, hansdat, coldpizza, saintsational (dave cariello is ghey), etc.
