Hoffman to have TJS

Pretty disappointing, since Hoffman/Rodon/Aiken/Kolek was starting to look like most people's top 4. Now if the other three all go before we pick, things look very murky.

John Sickels End of Season top 75 prospects.

Didn't see this anywhere else. Cubs prospects as followed: 8 Baez 19 Bryant 22 Almora 27 Soler 41 Edwards 70 Alcantara Honorable mentions: Johnson, Vogelbach

Law, Sickels release their mid-seasons prospect lists

The link is to Sickels, and I'll leave the link to Law below. Law's is top 50 with eight honorable mentions, Sickels' is top 75. Sickels didn't include 2013 draft picks but in the comments noted that he'd have Bryant in the top 20. Here's how they ranked. Law: Bryant(15), Soler(20), Almora(25), Baez(27), Alcantara (HM/51-58) Sickels: Baez(14), Almora(18), Soler(23), Alcantara(57) Law's list(ESPN Insider): http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9483033/byron-buxton-minnesota-twins-new-no-1-prospect-baseball-mlb

Is Welly Castillo a long term solution at catcher?

Pretty simple question, do you think Welington will be the starting catcher the next time we make the playoffs? I know there is a wide variety of opinions on our young catcher, both offensively and...

Garza signs for one year, 10.25 million

Cubs sign the D-Train

Didn't know he was still around, but good luck to him. He'll probably get to compete for the second lefty spot in the pen.

Orioles Sign Adam Greenberg

We may not have seen the last of Adam.

Another reason Carrie Muskat sucks at her job: speculates Castro may play 3B

chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20121205&content_id=40544566&vkey=news_chc&c_id=chc Seriously, what is this shit? "Castro could be Cubs' backup plan at third base" is the name of the...

Hoyer: Garza "likely" a Cub in 2013.

This doesn't shut the door on him being traded, but the injury obviously makes his trade value shrink, and it looks more and more like he'll be a Cub in 2013. If the injury lowers his asking price in extension talks, this may be a blessing in disguise, but that's assuming he's willing to work out a deal to stay in Chicago.

Good article on Soler and Almora

Interesting article about the two friends in Arizona, who played each other in international competition two years ago and are now rooming together in Arizona. Also interesting to read that Soler and Concepcion are friends and have known each other since they were 13, so there may very well be something to the thought that Concepcion was signed to lure Soler.

The moment we've all been waiting for: The debut of Jorge Soler

Tonight (Thursday). He will DH, and then play the field starting Friday.

Two Cubs minor leaguers test positive for PEDs

They both play in the DSL and I've never heard of either of them.

Could Rizzo be up for interleague play?

Lots of speculation here, but also some interesting quotes about Rizzo from Sveum.

BCB 2012 Beat The Streak Group.

Last year I participated with others in MLB's beat the streak game in the group for BCB. I figured I'd create one for this year if anyone is interested. For those who have never played, you pick one player (and in this year's version you can choose two players a day) for every day to get a hit and see how big of a streak you can build. It's quick and fun to keep up with throughout the year. Groupname: BCB2012 Password: Starlin

Cubs interested in Lannan?

Interesting, maybe he'll be switching clubhouses over the weekend? Byrd has apparently been discussed. Would you do a Lannan for Byrd trade? I think I would. But where do you put Lannan? I'm not sure if he has options left, if not maybe he could be that second lefty in the pen, and also fill a long relief role, keeping Rolo in Iowa?

Cubs claim Luis Valbuena

Hoyer-Soriano likely a Cub to start 2012, Garza extension talk a possibility

Nothing Earth-shattering, but some interesting comments from Jed on ESPN 1000.

Blue Jays likely out on Garza.

Too bad, not only did they have a deep system but also helped build competition in the bidding. Looks like it may come down to the Tigers or the Yanks if Matt is moved.

Theo talks about Marshall trade, talks Garza, and says they "aren't done" this offseason.

Some interesting stuff in this article. Theo talks about Garza, basically saying Garza is the type of guy you build around, but also talks about listening to everyone and how teams give up a lot for elite SP. Definitely left the door open for listening to Garza offers. He also says they want to add more SP depth, both in the majors and in the minors.... And here's a Theo quote from another cubs.com article, talking about the Marshall trade. Couldn't have put it any better myself... "There's no doubt our bullpen just got weaker by losing Marshall -- you can't get around that," Epstein said. "But I think our starting rotation just got stronger, and our farm system just got stronger. If Wood bounces back and he pitches the way he did in 2010, you can argue that maybe we even got better [for] 2012. Certainly, the future just got a little bit brighter."

Rangers Win Bid On Yu Darvish: Overflow Thread

Continued discussion of the Darvish posting here.

Joe Saunders Non-Tendered

Saunders put up a pretty solid year last year for the D-Backs. Rosenthal says that they will try to re-sign but it looks like they should have a good bit of competition. At the right price he'd certainly be interesting in this crappy SP market.

Koyie Hill Non-Tendered

Oh happy day! The end of an era..... @CarrieMuskat Carrie Muskat #Cubs have tendered contracts to arb eligibles Baker, DeWitt, Garza, Soto, Stewart, Wells, but not Hill Looks like DeWitt will be back as the second infielder off the bench along with Baker.

Dale Sveum interview

Lots of interesting bits and pieces in this interview with our new manager.

Kerry wants Z back in 2012, says he has to "do it the right way"

I'm starting to believe more and more than Zambrano being back is a very real possibility.

Epstein: Zambrano will have chance to rejoin the Cubs

Wow, didn't see that one coming. This doesn't guarantee anything though. Quote from Theo: "We met today at his request," Epstein said. "It went well. He expressed a strong desire to be a Cub (again) and an even stronger desire to have a strong 2012 season. He's in great shape. He's working out twice a day, pitching down in Venezuela. I told him that we'd let him earn his right back to being a Cub." "Most of the details will stay confidential," Epstein said. "But there are steps he needs to take to earn his way back. If he does so, we will see him in spring training and welcome him back."
