Big Cat Country Jaguars need playmakers

I just listened to Jaguars this Week, and Tony Boselli said that the Jaguars needed a playmaker. After thinking about it I agree with him. After the 5th pick, it appears to be a crapshoot. Blackmon- not really a game breaker, great college WR, playmaker? Reiff- RT, too high to draft at that position, etc... All of the draft experts, including us fans seem to have an opinion. I read a lot on this website and other nfl websites and one thing stands true: the game tape doesn't lie. While I'm sitting here at my computer thinking about the draft instead of working, one player came to mind: Melvin Ingram. I remember watching him play in several games on ESPN and he made several highlight plays. He was someone that teams would have to game plan for. He is athletic enough to play in the zone blitz that our defense runs at times. I could go on and on, but I want to hear from you guys. Coby Fleener is another guy who has that potential in the 2nd round. I think this is a good topic to discuss here. Looking at our draft position in each round, who are the playmakers that we have the potential to acquire? Not getting any work done today, but I hope to have mine up soon in the comments. Anyone want to join me?

Big Cat Country Are our receivers that bad?

As Mike Mularkey begins to examine the roster as well as put together his coaching staff, I began to wonder about the receiving corps. As I went through the roster mentally, I kept thinking: are our receivers really that bad? Chastin West, 6' 1", 207 lbs, 4.6 speed, adequate hands, can this guy serve as a possession receiver for this team? I'm sure this depends on coaching, but when I look at him catching those slant patterns against Indy during the first game, and the touchdown at the last game and I kept thinking this guy could be a good player for the Jaguars. Taylor Price may also be a keeper for us as well. 6' 0" 205 4.4 speed. I think the WR coach will be extremely pivotal in making these receivers players. Jarrett Dillard can also be a good third down receiver because of his route running and his good hands. Mike Thomas did have 66 catches last year, just nothing deep. I think someone like a Vincent Jackson or DeSean Jackson would be the only receiver we could need. Looking for some input on this one guys. Help me out on this one everyone!

Big Cat Country After the frustration...

After the frustration of knowing the Jaguars lost another winnable game, I began to get my Jaguar gear and set it on fire. Then I remembered it's only a game. As I thought more and more about it, I began to think about this year and we have a lot of "what ifs" to think about. Let me give you a list: 1. What if David Garrard's back was not an issue? I believe he would have still been a starter and he just might have pulled out those games we did not. Remember, last year we went 8 - 8 with the same offense and now we have a vastly improved defense. We would definitely be in first place or at least tied with the Texans right now. 2. What if Blaine Gabbert was not drafted and we only had Josh McCown and our QB from the farm to back a healthy David up? 3. What if we had a healthy Vince Manauwi (sp) right now? I bet we would have an even better run offense than we have with a rookie LG who is actually playing pretty well right now. 4. What if we really drafted Tim Tebow? Would he start for us with a healthy David Garrard, or would he be taking Zach Miller's spot as our second TE? I believe that we would be singing different tunes with just those scenarios. Nevertheless, this team is more competitive this year than last year. It's just that a rookie is leading this team. We've had just as much injuries this year as last, but look at the depth this roster has. We have been able to plug in players that have played well in certain spots. The ball just hasn't fell in the right spot as it did for us last year. I still haven't given up on this season, and I think that we as fans shouldn't either. I'm still hoping for a run of good football. Blaine did play his best game of the year yesterday. Marcedes finally showed up. I think Jarett Dillard could be the difference maker on offense (runs good routes, gets good seperation, CATCHES THE BALL). The defense is young enough to continue playing top 5 defense. MJD is relatively still a young back, with Rashad Jennings set to return. Next year's draft may have us at the point of elite. Ok, I'm rambling now... so after the frustration of losing another close game, I can honestly say that this is a football team on the rise. Shout out to zoxitic for continuing to post his win the division stuff. As long as we are not mathematically out of it, I'm with you! Keep posting. Go Jags!

Big Cat Country How to fix the Jaguars in a few easy steps

The Jaguars have truly disappointed us fans by the way losing the past two games by 25 points apiece.  I think I can offer a quick solution to our problems:

1.  Start Vince ManuwaiSeems like an easy decision, but why is he not playing?  Is there some injury thing we don't know?  We need something to jumpstart our run game and I think he is the missing link.  Uche or Smiley can ride the pine.  I know we need pass protection, but Vinny can handle the job.

2.  Fire Mel Tucker and promote Joe Cullen to DC:  Another easy decision.  The fire he has brought to the DL can be spread throughout the defense with this simple move.  The defense played well yesterday except for a few breakdowns.  I think someone with the fire of Cullen can make a difference and add some pride to our defense.

3.  Wayne Weaver and Gene Smith needs to meet with JDR and Koetter.  Both JDR and Koetter need some fire put under their butts.  Simple meeting notes:  Ok guys, we have provided you with all the tools you need to be succesful on offense.  Put up some points, get aggressive or find yourselves without a job.  WE WILL NOT HAVE A GAME LIKE YESTERDAY AGAIN! (Wayne and Gene kick both out of the office).  Maybe the threat of not having a job will stop us from being so predictable on offense and Jack can stop being so passive in his press conferences.

4.  After meeting with Wayne and Gene, JDR and Koetter meet with Garrard.  Simple meeting notes again:  Ok Dave, you have shown us what you are made of.  You will not be our QB next year.  Whoever we draft will be our QB.  If David knows he will not play for the Jags next year, maybe, just maybe he will play with a little reckless abandon.

5.  Jaguar fans need to buy the rest of the tickets.  We have already done a lot, but selling out the stadium lets the team know we are serious about keeping them around.  Fans can not stop buying tickets even if the product is not the best quality.  We are still 1 out of 32.  Jacksonville is still an elite city!

Here are just a few suggestions.  Anybody want to add to the list?

Still hoping for the team to play well,

DeeMoe.

Big Cat Country Can David Garrard be the MAN in Jacksonville?

Ok all, we have seen the great Garrard and the definitely not so great Garrard this season.  Can David Garrard really be the MAN? Can he put this team on his proverbial back and lead us to the playoffs?  We all have critiqued his game and how he plays the game, and we all have an opinion.  Do the coaches believe that he can really do it?  David did not throw a deep ball again after he was intercepted that last game.  In both games he really did not leave the pocket.  Is he being coached to play like that? Let's all take a step back and think:  David is not going anywhere this year, so he is all we have, especially now that McCown (McGowen) is hurt.  David Garrard is feeling the pressure of trying to lead a young team and it seems as if his coaches don't have any more faith in him but to 'not lose the game'.  How would you feel? The Garrard I see being successful is one who has the freedom to run or pass.  He is able to run those sprint option and roll out passes.  I can remember when he hit Northcutt on that long TD against Pittsburgh.  He rolled out of the pocket.  Why are we trying to make him something he is not?  David is NOT a pocket passer.  David needs to be mobile to be successful.  He seems a bit bottled up.  This game against San Diego opened my eyes to something. Does anyone else see it this way?  Here's my plea to the coaching staff:  Turn David Garrard loose.  Let him improvise.  Get him out of the pocket and let him run it or pass it. I think David should be allowed to go out on his terms.  The coaches should design plays that cater to his strengths.  We all know he can make the throws, but how can he when the playcalling puts him in a situation where he can't?  The offensive line is improved.  The defense will improve (sidebar:  Weren't you proud of Courtney Greene?).    What else do we have to lose?  No one but us true fans expect us to make the playoffs, and we all know that GM Gene will draft his successor next year.  Let David go out with a bang and I think we all would be happy with the results.  This is just one fan's rant.  Comment as you like.

Big Cat Country Sigh... Ready for some football...

Hello everyone.  I am a football fan.  More importantly, I am a Jacksonville Jaguar fan.  I am excited about every move that has been made this offseason, even the ones (well one) I did not agree with (Bye, Fred).

Big Cat Country Wow! What an offseason!

The Jacksonville Jaguars, definitely my favorite team, has had a pretty good offseason:  We hired a GM, released a few dead weight players (and a Jaguar legend), picked up and signed good role players and more is sure to come.
