Mike Modano Expresses Interest In Becoming A Minority Owner of the Stars

7

According to ESPNDallas.com, Modano, 39, said he's interested in becoming an owner because he'd like to keep hockey interest in Dallas at a high level. He's played his entire career in the Stars organization since he was drafted first overall in the 1988 draft. He then moved with the organization from Minnesota to Dallas in 1993 and has been the face of the franchise. Modano is the highest-scoring American player in NHL history, has played in seven All-Star games and hoisted the Stanley Cup in 1999.

Captain Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie Dead at 53

1

In totally unrelated hockey news, but a story near and dear to me, Captain Phil Harris of the crab fishing boat Cornelia Marie died today at the age of 53. His death was the result of complications following a stroke back on January 30th while conducting a crab off load. For those who watch the show Deadliest Catch on Discovery Channel, you know that Phil was truly a family man. His two sons were deckhands on the Cornelia Marie. My most sincere thoughts and prayers are with the Harris family during this most difficult time. RIP Captain Phil...

Kari Lehtonen Traded to Dallas

10

Well, this is an interesting move by the Stars. This has the potential to really make or break the Stars season. If they get the Kari Lehtonen that was selected 2nd overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, I think this makes them better right away. If they get the injury prone Lehtonen, then they gave up a fan favorite prospect and a 4th round pick for nothing. Stand by for more on this one.

Souray Gives Oilers A List of Six Teams

5

Sheldon Souray gave Edmonton GM Steve Tambellini a list of 6 teams that he would be willing to be traded to. In the West, Anaheim, Dallas and Los Angeles. In the East, Washington, Philadelphia and the New York Rangers. Not surprisingly the Avs were not on that list. Honestly, I'm pretty happy about this. What do you think?

He is just "Coach Joe" Now

+

Terry Frei just did an amazing article on life for Super Joe after the NHL. One of the best quotes from the article: "You know what's good? Going on the ice and knowing that you don't have to skate when the whistle blows. All my life I've been the one skating." -Joe Sakic

A Rested Marty Turco is Key to Dallas Stars' Success

For the Dallas Stars and Marty Turco the 2008-09 season is one they would all like to forget. For Turco in particular who posted a 2.81 GAA and .898 save percentage, both the worst of his thus far...

Bankruptcy Judge Rejects Both Bids to Purchase the Phoenix Coyotes

+

Balsille loses another battle in his war to bring a seventh NHL franchise north of the border. Will he ever win?

Jim Ballsillie Williing to Keep the Phoenix Coyotes in Glendale this season

+

It looks more and more like Jim Balsillie is doing everything short of getting on his hands and knees and begging to become the owner of the Phoenix Coyotes. For him to be willing to allow the team to stay in Phoenix for a season and risk losing a substantial money in the process means a lot! Perhaps this will earn him some credibility with the NHL and the city of Glendale.

Phoenix Coyotes Auction: Both Bids May Be Tossed Out

+

According to a comment made by Judge Redfield T. Baum, the possibility is "more than theoretical." There are still currently only two bids in for the financially troubled team. One from Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie and the NHL.

Phoenix Coyotes Auction Has One Less Buyer

+

Ice Edge Holdings no longer has any interest in participating in the auction of the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday. The group had been made up of both American and Canadian businessmen. Could their choice to withdraw been due to Canadian Jim Balsillie increasing his offer to $242.5 million? We will never know. All we know now is that it's now a two man race, Balsillie and Bettman.

Coyotes Relocation Fee Could Be Up to $195 Million
