James Franklin is changing the culture around the football program at Vanderbilt, and Christian gave us a good preview of the 2013 Commodore Football season. They lose their leading rusher, but they'll be welcoming the best recruiting class in the history of the program. Christian broke down the roster and season expectations for Vandy in 2013 and shared the reason he's afraid of the Aggies on October 26th. Can we go ahead and sign a petition to keep Johnny Manziel in college football forever? There are plenty of people out there that think Manziel is being a little too crazy and flaunting his status as the winner of the Heisman Trophy winner. To that, I say, well no shit, wouldn't you?

If I was in Manziel's shoes, there wouldn't be a high end club/bar, strip club, sorority house, or Playboy centerfold within 8,000 miles that I had not visited. But no, Manziel is attending sporting events and people are acting like he's Tony Montana. Sporting events. Imagine that, an athlete attends sporting events and plays golf. Oh the humanity! Anyways, we were curious why you thought people hated Manziel, and here's what you came up with.

Podcast Episode 65 – Previewing the Arkansas Razorbacks

In Week 1 of our Around the SEC series, we talked with Doc Harper from SBNation's Arkansas Expats. We ran Doc through the ringer to get his opinions and expectations on the 2013 Razorback Football team, thoughts on the Aggies and Razorbacks taking the series away from college campuses, and we made him pick a winner of the Alabama vs. A&M matchup on September 14th. The Razorbacks have a killer schedule next season, and they're facing a lot of similar situations as the Aggies during the move to the SEC.

Aggie Hoops - We've Got TiTTs!

Off season basketball talk? Yeah, off season basketball talk. Let's do it.

Yes, the Aggies had a rather disappointing season on the hardwood last season. Yes, there are a lot of people pointing the 'ol blame finger in every possible direction. Yes, there were pieces missing from last year's team that Aggie Basketball fans grew accustomed to seeing while the Aggies were on a streak of consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. What is one of those pieces you ask? Well, I'm glad you asked.

In 2006, the Aggies made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. On that team 38.6% of the points came from the big men.

In 2007, the Aggies made it to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. On that team 40.2% of the points came from the big men.

In 2008, the Aggies made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. On that team 38.1% of the points came from the big men.

In 2013, the Aggies faced their second consecutive season of no post-season play. On that team only 31% of the points came from the big men.

It's not just the scoring differential from the big men in the season's above. You also have to observe the presence the impact of the bigs on the court. Defensive rebounds compared to opponent offensive rebounds, defensive efficiency, and +/- are all factors that need to be considered when looking at the level of play a team is getting from their length on the floor. One staple on all of those successful Aggie teams was a guard that could take over the game. The Aggies had that in 2013 with Elston Turner. The Ags have been suffering from a lack of positive play from their big men over the last few years. This is absolutely not a knock on the big men that have played the last two years. They played their asses off for the maroon and white, and were often in matchups that they never should have had to face. The recruitment, or lack thereof, of skilled, athletic, long, wings and post players have left Coach Kennedy and staff with a depleted roster at those positions. Rest easy though, Aggie Basketball fans. There are TiTTs on the horizon!

Coach Kennedy and his staff are building a roster of athletic and talented basketball players that have all the potential necessary to bring some excitement back to the hoops program. Before you even look at the new guys that will joining the team, there's 6'8" Antwan Space who had to sit out last season. Space absolutely would have seen plenty of minutes if he was eligible last season, and he would have made an impact in several games where the Aggie bigs were getting outmanned down low.

At the Forward and Guard positions, the Aggies are bringing in 6'8" Jamal Jones (one of the best JUCO players in the country this year), 6'7" Davante Fitzgerald, and 6'8" Tavario Miller. You had those players to Alex Caruso, Jordan Green, and Shawn Smith, and you instantly have 7 players that make this team light years more ahtletic and bigger at the 2, 3, and 4 poistions than last year.

Then, ladies and gentlmen, there's the TiTTs. Texas A&M is now home to The International Twin Towers. Coach Kennedy and his staff made drastic improvements on the recruiting trail by landing big 6'10" Tony Trocha from Colombia and 6'11" Dylan Johns from England. These are two guys that Aggie basketball fans should be excited about. Tony Trocha has the basketball skill set to be a superstar. He's been described as a raw version of Anthony Davis, and a longer version of Lamarcus Aldridge. He's got a lot of work to do before hitting either of those levels of play, but a college S&C program and dedicated post coaching may lead to one of the best big men to ever play for the Aggies. Don't expect an overnight miracle, but you should definitely keep your eyes on the Colombian big man as the season progresses.

Much like Trocha, Dylan Johns has a particular skill set for a big man that makes college coaches and basketball junkies drool. One of the hardest things to teach a big man is to keep the ball high and finish high. The tape on Dylan Johns shows a developing player that loves getting up and down the floor and very polished skills at keeping the ball high and in control. Seeing a guy with this kind of height having such a knack for finishing around the rim at his age is why coaches are high on Johns. Johns also needs a good summer of S&C to be able to make an early impact, but that shouldn't be a concern for anyone under the system Coach Darby runs.

Aggie Basketball has always been a tough sell at Texas A&M, even when the program was a regular in The Dance. With the length and athleticism that will be hitting the court at Reed Arena next season Coach Kennedy is on the verge of reigniting the bouncy ball passion in College Station, and he can do it with the TiTTs.

Southgate Region is now Up and Open

I'll be paying close attention to the Joe Evans vs. Pat Henry matchup in the 8/9 battle, mainly because Pat Henry is drastically under-seeded. I've already said to much. We attempted to make sense of Bob Stoops' rambling comments about the mediocrity of the SEC. If you didn't catch the garbage article by NFL.com's Bucky Brooks about Johnny Manziel's pro prospects, just listen to us talk about it. Nothing else needs to be said. And really PETA? PETA? It's going to take a lot more than the tears of a chicken to stop Von Miller, a.k.a. the Poultry Mogul.

The SEC Network and Texas A&M: Recap and Instant Reaction

What a difference a year makes. One year removed from the Big 12 and Texas A&M has a 11-2 season in the SEC, a victory over National Champion Alabama on the road in Tuscaloosa, a Heisman winning Quarterback that may be the greatest Twitter troll in the history of college sports, a recently announced Mecca of college football in the South, and now we have the SEC Network.

First: The News Recap

Media rights agreement between ESPN and the SEC extended through 2034. This is the longest agreement in all of sports.
The official name of the network is the SEC Network.
The SEC Network will air 1,000 live sporting events each year, 450 on the Network and 550 distributed digitally.
45 football games will be broadcast on the SEC Network over 13 weeks.
As expected, the SEC Network will launch in August 2014.
AT&T UVERSE has already signed on to distribute the SEC Network.
ESPN will become the content manager of all SEC digital media as well.
You can request the SEC Network from your provider at getsecnetwork.com
ESPN plans for the SEC Network to reach a level of distribution equal to ESPNU, which is in 75 million homes.
The SEC will only play two Thursday night games, and that won't change.
SEC football games will be played on CBS (first pick), ESPN, ESPN2, and the SEC Network.
Commissioner Slive anticipates additional discussion on scheduling and the potential for a 9-game schedule.
Pay-per-view games are a thing of the past for teams in the SEC.
The SEC Network will be based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. That is also where ESPNU is headquartered.

Second: The Instant Reaction

This is just awesome. That's clear right? I mean, do we really need to expand on this? Sure they didn't release any numbers (because they don't have all of them yet). They did mention they expect national distribution outside of the 11 SEC states to be similar to that of ESPNU, which is in 75 million homes across the country. Time out. Rich ass schools say what?

One of the big takeaways is the announcement of 45 SEC football games being broadcast live on SEC Network over 13 weeks. With that type of content, providers will have absolutely no choice but to pick up the channel. That's a lot of grade-A football that fans simply won't settle without. This is the kind of content that absolutely forces the hand of providers without a lot of begging and pleading from fans.

As far as providers go, Uverse jumped on this channel like a dog in heat. The agreement was in place before the official announcement was even made. It's safe to say this thing is going to take off in a big way.

I'm not even remotely worried about the SEC and ESPN not releasing any kind of dollar figures, and you shouldn't be neither. This network is huge for the SEC, and massive for Texas A&M. You need a stadium upgrade to any arena or stadium on campus? Done. You need to buy the latest and greatest strength and condition equipment to stay on top? Done. You need this? Done. You need that? Done. Aggie fans will never have to worry about financial implications in their athletic department. Never. That little piece of mind is something you simply can't put a price on. You join that little nugget with the magic that Kevin Sumlin, Johnny Manziel and crew created last season and you've got something truly special going on in Aggieland. As GBH writer OrionHjarvis said yesterday, "Not all that long ago I was unsure if the A&M sleeping giant would ever wake up. Big boy is finally up and he's pissed."

The Texas A&M System Board of Regents met today to see a new kickass video on the new Kyle Field. Yeah, they did other things too, but they got to see a really kick ass video on the new Kyle Field. Steve Fullhart from KBTX posted the following images from the presentation:

There were honestly too many highlights from the presentation to keep up with. Here's what we took away:

There will be overhangs on the east and west sides of the stadium (thank you Jesus).
There will be 12 empty seats in the student section that will remain empty to honor and remember fallen Aggies from the Bonfire accident and elsewhere. These seats will be somewhere visible to TV cameras.
The stadium will seat over 102,000 and be the largest in Texas, as well as the SEC.
The field level is being lowered to increase the crowd noise in the stadium (poor visiting teams).
The exterior will be made predominantly of limestone.
There will be club seating that stretches from goal line to goal line.
E. King Gill is also getting a remodel. He will be larger and more prominent outside of Kyle Field.
There will be new memorials added to both the east and west sides of the stadium.
Renovations will begin after the final home game of 2013 and be completed in August 2015.
There is a plan to secure funding to place a total of 12 maroon lights around the corners of the stadium that will be illuminated after a victory.

There was a lot to take away from the video, and we'll keep you posted with any additional news we get our hands on. Hopefully, they release the video that was shown during the meeting, because it was beyond awesome.

EDIT at 4:36PM: The Texas A&M Board of Regents approved the redevelopment of Kyle Field.

In case you don't keep up with Twitter at breakneck speed to stay on top of the sports world as it unfolds around you, Clay Travis over at Outkick the Coverage released a wonderful little article about a photo that was sent to him of our supreme leader Johnny Manziel.

So the photo is a picture of Manziel kissing the Heisman Trophy that he earned last season as the most excellent badass in college football while Manti Te'o was on eHarmony.com and while Collin Klein was teaching grade school children in rural Kansas that girls do indeed have cooties. Of course, the photo appears to show the Heisman holding a blunt, or a french fry, or a #2 pencil with both ends chopped off. Manziel quickly replied to the questions about the photon via Twitter:

It would be great if that was the end of it, but we all know it won't be. The article will be circulated far more than Manziel's tweet saying it is a photoshop. Between the thousands that want nothing more than to see Manziel fail and the chode Heisman purists out there that still think Tim Tebow should win the award every year, the court of public opinion will once again rear its ugly head and smite Manziel with its holier than thou hammer.

Here's all you need to know. Clay Travis made it pretty clear he wanted to get his article out on the web before any other service did. He also made it clear that he was not entirely too concerned with waiting on an official response from A&M or Manziel. Hooray journalism. There's a reason the nickname for his site is Outclick the Coverage. The guy has made a profession out of writing informed troll pieces (which is great, and I applaud him for it). There's nothing to see here folks. Just another day in the beautiful world of Texas A&M and Aggie Football being on the tip of everyone's tongue.

We hope ya'll are enjoying the new format of the podcast. We know we are enjoying the improved sound quality. We covered a lot of ground in this episode. There were plenty of good things to take away from the Maroon and White game this past weekend, so we talked about the things we liked from the Aggie on Aggie showdown. Hint, that Heisman QB Manziel guy is pretty dang good at the game of football. We also talked about the business of the SEC Network and some of the things we expect to see from the cash cow that it will be. Hint, it's going to be friggin huge for Texas A&M for a long, long time. Lastly, we did on of our favorite things in the world. We took an absolute garbage article from a Longhorn writer trying to reach for the stars and stating 5 reasons the Longhorns could be better than the Aggies next season. Hint, it's derpy. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Westgate 1st Round Now Open for Voting

The Eastgate region 1st round is now complete. The boobs and/or footaball > everything else theory continues to hold true. Need evidence of that? Sarah Savage ran away with the 7 v. 10 matchup over Randy Matson, ya know, the guy that is one of the greatest all-around athletes of all time. Nonetheless, Sarah is ridiculousy hot. So yeah, she won. Deal with it. You can see the updated bracket after two completed regions here. There are some interesting matchups in the Westgate region opening round. Two players from Gary Blair's national championship team face off against some gridiron guys, and the surprisingly highly seeded Listeater faces off against Gene Stallings in the 4 v. 13 matchup.

It's finally here folks. The SEC and ESPN are holding a press conference on Tuesday to announce the SEC Network, code named LOLOLOL SOOOO MUCH MONEY.

The news from Sports Business Daily:

The SEC and ESPN plan to formally announce the creation of an SEC channel on Tuesday. The two parties have begun to reach out to key constituents to let them know about the 12:00pm ET announcement at the Atlanta Hyatt. University presidents, ADs, SEC CommissionerMike Slive, ESPN execs and the conference's corporate sponsors are among those being invited to the news conference. The SEC and ESPN have been working on plans to form a channel since the fall of '11, and the new channel is expected to launch in August '14.

The channel is expected to have its studio headquarters in Charlotte at the ESPN Regional Television offices, while the primary sales outlet will be based in Atlanta.

Good Bull Podcast - Maroon & White Episode

The results of the opening round in the Northgate bracket are in, and yes, football is definitely king in College Station. It was almost all chalk with the only upset coming from Shane Lechler over Aggie hottie Mary Beth Decker. The update bracket is available here. It's time to move on to the Eastgate bracket as we get closer to chiseling out the Aggie Mt. Rushmore.

The popular vote round has concluded and the results have been critiqued with a fine-toothed comb, or Excel, but whatever. Each person was give a seed based on where they fell in the popular vote of all 64 names. There are definitely a few surprises in how the final votes added up, but I think the bracket rounds will have some certain upsets. You can s ee the entire 64-name bracket here. We've got the regions broken up into Northgate, Southgate, Westgate, and Eastgate. With that said, it's time to get the voting started in the first round of the Northgate Region.

It may be hard to keep him contained after the Ole Miss series, but GBH baseball writer Jason Zimmermann will be on the air to keep you up to date on Aggie Baseball.

We're going to hit Spring practice, football recruiting, the NCAA Tournament bracket, predict the Sweet 16 matchups, Aggie Baseball, Aggie Mount Rushmore, and more. Shoves? Yeah, shoves. We're talking about shoves.

No, this is the big leagues. It's not every day you get to pick who gets carved into the side of a mountain...unless you're a mountain carver guy, so yeah. Don't panic. Tonight is the last time the seniors on Gary Blair's squad will suit up and play at Reed Arena. The Aggies are taking on the 6-seed Nebraska Cornhuskers at 8:30PM Central. The game will be televised on SHUT UP AND GO TO REED ARENA BECAUSE YOU'RE A STUDENT AND YOU GET IN FOR FREE.

Aggie Women Hoops Gets a 3-Seed

After claiming the SEC Championship in their first ever appearance in the SEC Tournament, Gary Blair and the Aggie Women Basketball Team were given a 3-seed by the NCAA Selection Committee. Coming as a bit of a shocker, the Aggies ended up in the Norfolk region where Notre Dame sits as the 1-seed. In the first round, the Aggies will take on the 13-seed in Wichita State. That game takes place this Saturday at 3PM Central at Reed Arena in Aggieland. Texas A&M will likely face the winner of 6-seed Nebraska and 11-seed Chattanooga on Monday in College Station. Outside of the first weekend, the Aggies have a favorable field in the Norfolk region. The potential Sweet 16 matchup would be against Duke, and then the top-seeded Notre Dame team in the Elite 8. It may not have been the best possible outcome for the Aggies, but it certainly isn't the worst.

We're only two years removed from the National Championship run by the Aggies when they were a 2-seed in the tournament. It's no surprise to see a Gary Blair team firing on all cylinders late in the season, but this is an Aggie team with a lot of young talent making their first appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Kelsey Bone will certainly be the focus of every team the Aggies face, so we'll see if Blair's youngsters can rise to the challenge.

So, it's another year of not having a rooting interest in the NCAA Tournament. That's fine, I'll just root for one of the small schools from Texas that made it in. Oh yeah, that's right. For the first time since going to 64 teams, there won't be a single team from the state of Texas represented in the NCAA Tournament. This can mean only one thing.

Aggies vs. Tigers (Again) - Tipoff at 9PM

Well, we did already beat them. That's one piece of good news. And they are a terrible team on the road, so that's good too. But they are 3-1 at neutral sites, so that kind of sucks. Anyways, I'm basing my hope for this game on the fact that Missouri has staged themselves to be the new conference red-headed stepchild for the Aggies. Since moving to the SEC, Missouri hasn't won in any sport against the Aggies (only a series split in softball).
