Sactown Royalty My conversation with Gavin today

Gavin Maloof & Phil Horn (VP of ticket sales) called me today, to convince me not to cancel my season tickets. Gavin basic argument was, We love Sac, want to make it work, we think team heading in the right direction, arena deal was just bad for everybody. He said they would have raised ticket prices by 60% to even try and make it work. That was the basics of his sales pitch.

I countered with, 2 years ago I bought season tickets because I want to help invest in this team and the arena deal, and basically last two years have not been fun, seriously not fun. I tried to tell him I want only one thing from a business perspective if you want me to continue next year to be a season ticket holder. I need a commitment that relocation will not be on the table next year (March 1st deadline). My approach with request was presented from a investor/business point of view as to why I want this guarantee. So we could all communicate from the same page with no hostilities or bad faith.

Gavin like Joe said passionately that they are going to be here and want to make it work.

But I wanted something more of a guarantee, anything, (just put your money were your mouth is) type guarantee. He basically reiterated we are committed, here I need you to talk to Phil Horn (not a 100% it was Phil, but 99%). Basically when I got him caught up on the conversation, and he understood I want something more than a verbal we are staying, Phil "101 reasons why legally we can not provide that guarantee" then Phil tried the approach look Gavin called you, I do not know how many owners call fans, that should be enough to take him at his word. I trust him with my livelihood, you can trust him. I countered, that was fine for you because you have the ability to know him, all I got is a 5 minute phone call. We kind of went in circles from there.

Simple question folks why can't they be creative and provide some better guarantee than just trust me. Do they not know we are cancelling our season tickets because we lost our trust in them. The only positive that came out of the conversation was they will give me up to July 1st without paying any addition money and I can still hold my seats, which will give me time to decide.

Sactown Royalty A letter I sent to the NBA

Dear David Stern,

I am writing to you because I have been a season ticket holder of the Sacramento Kings for 2 years now and previous to that I bought quite a few games. There have been some dark times these last few years, but I have tried my best to remain positive. Always looking to the future and all the while supporting the Kings and putting down valuable dollars were my mouth was and investing into this team. I have been willing to do whatever I could to help support the Entertainment & Sport Complex effort here in Sacramento. I been waiting for KJ (mayor) to announce the opportunity to buy a Brick, so I could have my name there at ESC and be able to say "I helped!"

Just when I though things were turning around, the Maloofs decided to renegotiate in public, terms in principle that I thought and believe were clearly agreed to in Orlando. For reasons I couldn't even explain they are balking at a relatively small piece of the cost of the ESC. The PR damage alone cost them more than 3 million. Their actions have cut right to the bone, and I have lost complete faith in them and have no confidence in their ownership. One of the reasons why I was so excited about the agreement out of Orlando was your involvement. While the terms were not perfect for all parties it appeared reasonable and fair. I feel their actions recently have impugned the NBA and your valuable reputation as well as the Mayor of Sacramento. I am looking forward to the meeting of the Board of Governors and a clear statement as to were the NBA stands and why. Transparency right now is a must, especially since this has been dragged out into the public. I renewed my season tickets for next year but why should I spend money on my beloved team if the owners of that team appear to have negotiated in bad faith. Their claims do not add up to me, and their actions are horrific. Maybe I am missing something, but I do not want to give my money to owners I have no faith or confidence in. That is why I am looking forward to the Board of Governors meeting and/or the Mayor saying we got everything worked out soon or I be asking for my money back or do what ever I can to cancel my season tickets.

Sactown Royalty New Arena and the Golden Gate Bridge

Is it time for fans to step up in the arena conversation and do something since politicians and business leaders have failed up to now? Here some excerpts from a article about the Golden Gate Bridge. Do you see some similarities today?

The Golden Gate Bridge-the unmistakable symbol of a city and a region is known as the most spectacular bridge in the world. One of man's most powerful creations, the bridge is located in one of nature's most beautiful settings, spanning the mile-wide bay from Fort Point in San Francisco to the Marin County shore.

The idea of spanning the Golden Gate Strait was thought to be impossible by virtually everyone when the notion was brought up. The idea of constructing a bridge across the mile-wide gap was written off as ludicrous. Norton may have been seen as crazy but he saw the future.

Then came along Strauss, he took on his biggest task yet... convincing civic leaders and residents that the span was not only feasible but affordable (Rejuvenate a local economy) as well. Strauss was also a great salesman. He dedicated himself to becoming the chief promoter, organizing the political, financial and marketing efforts to build the bridge that would span the strait and THE TIME WAS RIGHT

The trio who originated the idea believed a district was necessary to oversee the financing, designing and construction. In this way all counties affected would have a voice in the proceedings which could, in turn, result in more community support. Lesson here give the community a voice on what will be built.

This bridge was the first of such magnitude and controversy to be completely financed by private citizens. All who did contribute money were promised restitution at four and three-fourths percent interest rate within a maximum of 40 years. It is amazing how successful this way of financing was, considering the effects of the Great Depression. The people who lived in the counties which were involved in the district displayed an unprecedented sense of community pride by trusting in the bridge bonds.

Next big question what if Sactown Royalty spent a year to two years trying to raise 1 million dollars. 1/500 of what is expect to be needed to build an Arena, do you think developers, bankers, and politicians would notice? It could be a fund raiser with proper strings attached. Many people would say it's can't be done and not worth it, I say I am tired of all the Dam talk, time to do something. Newton's law of motion “Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.”

Nothing great is easy! Just a thought.

Sactown Royalty The classic non-scientific poll

I want the best draft pick possible, I want this team to have the opportunity to find another stud in the draft. So I am ok with the current wins and I want as many ping pong balls as there can be, and just maybe we move up a couple of spots. The Kings have already proved to me that they are finally heading in the right direction. Thank you Mr Tyreke. What is your opinion?

But I am ok with the Kings crushing LA in LA.
