It was a curious phenomenon: A look at the data, at the Cold, Hard Football Facts, revealed that Denver was a better team and a surer bet to win. A look at the data, at the Cold, Hard Football Facts, also revealed that the Patriots were still struggling to find their groove. In fact, most "pundits" and observers admitted as much about the Patriots. Those two pieces of evidence tell us one thing: the faith the pigskin "pundits" and public had in a New England victory was not so much a belief in the Patriots as it was a disbelief in the Broncos. The disbelievers must believe know. They can no longer critique the schedule or the quarterback or the coach. At least for now, the Broncos are the team to beat in the AFC. They’re 5-0, like the Colts. But, unlike the Colts, the Broncos have actually been tested this season.

Cold Hard Facts hit the horseshoe nail on the head. Congratulations to some folks who actually did their homework.

So far, the Broncos defense has forced eight takeaways -- five interceptions and three fumble recoveries through three games. That has helped lead to a plus-six turnover margin, good for tops in the AFC and second in the league. "The funny thing is, once you get one, you get another," Champ Bailey said of the turnovers. "They come in bunches. I think if you just work hard to get them, just try to be in the right place at the right time, things will happen your way. The turnovers will happen."

From DenverBroncos.com - The Broncos have 8 takeaways (five INTs and 3 fumble recoveries) in three games and a +6 margin, as opposed to last season which saw a minus 17 differential (31st in the league), 6 INTs and 8 fumble recoveries over 16 games

In contrast to his critics' complaints, Orton ranks third in the NFL in pass plays of at least 20 yards, fourth in average yards per completion and eighth in yards per attempt. Impressive production, considering Orton's average completion reaches the receiver 5.7 yards from the line of scrimmage.

"I think he's getting better," said Elway. "Obviously I think his finger is bothering him and I think offensively it doesn't look like everything is clicking for him yet." "You know that they have the talent offensively to be a good team. I just think that is hasn't really clicked with everybody yet." "You can spend all the time in the world you want in the off-season going over a new offense, trying to get it down mentally, but until you get into the games and get under the fire it's tough to react to it and really feel comfortable with that offense. Kyle's been in there before. He'll be perfect in this offense as time goes on and he gets more comfortable with it."
