Great game, and congrats to your program. this is a huge step up. Hopefully the "Utah for #1" will pick up steam around the blogosphere. You already have one Texas Blog declaring you National Champs.

Brandon Foster

Brandon Foster named B12 defensive player of the week.
http://mackbrown-texasfootball.com/i...

The pick 6 was great. Really, it was. Helped win the game. But am I being too pessimistic in thinking that this might actually be to our long term detriment? That interception happened because the UCF quarterback threw a horrendous pass that was too high and too hard. I bounced off of the reciever and went flying into the air. Foster was just kind of sitting there not really doing anything at all. Couple this with the TCU game where the bad snap just sort of fell into his lap, not through any great playmaking of his own, but through someone else's total screw up and he has the same amount of touchdowns as Cosby, Jones, and Finley combined.

So now the coaches will tell us how great he is because he's the only DB with a pick, AND he's the highest scoring dude on defense. Great.

MNC prediction

Last year I went out on a limb (not really) and predicted (drunkenly) that Ohio State would play a one loss SEC team for the MNC. My point isn't that I'm the all seeing prognosticator of football (which I am), only that PB's countdown is still in the triple digits and I need a fix.

Who do you think will play for the MNC game next Jan? I think it will be an undefeated USC and an undefeated Texas, in a death defying rematch of 2005.

Some issues to consider.
Can any SEC team emerge undefeated from the conference? I dont see it happening

Would an undefeated Big East team get passed over by a one loss team fom the SEC, Big12, Big10? My feeling is that the Big East is the easiest conference to get through, but would get bullied in the press by the bigger conferences.

Million dollar question:
Could a one loss SEC team get voted in over an undefeated team from the B10, B12, P12? I think this is what the season will come down to. Florida showed the SEC toughness last year, but I just cant envision a one loss team getting voted in over a big name team from the power conferences. If it was an undefeated Iowa (who dodges OSU AND Mich) Ok State or Cal, then the odds increase greatly. If undefeated Texas, ou, or USC, then not so much.

Note that I dont think any of this is necessarily fair, only that I think it is how the system works and trying to predict accordingly.

Why we like QB's from Texas

Saw this on espn.com. It reminded me how lucky we were to dodge the Ryan Peril-loser bullet. He must feel like a real ass at this point. He'll be sitting on the bench for yet another year at LSU, while two guys from his recruiting year (Daniel and McCoy) are already big time starters at their respective programs. My favorite quote from Chase:

Later that summer, while attending the Elite 11 QB camp in California, Daniel met Perrilloux. They didn't exactly hit it off.

"I was so tired of hearing him run his mouth," Daniel says. "He was like, 'I'm the best at everything,' so I challenged him."

"Let's run a 40-[yard dash]," Daniel said to Perrilloux in front of all the other campers. "Back up your talk."
They raced and Daniel said he beat Perrilloux by two yards. The Louisiana QB said he slipped and asked for a rematch after he put his cleats on.
"Next time I beat him by a yard," Daniel said with a smile.

I think this also applies to our situation with John Brantley. We got Chiles to run our team of the future, while Brantley will forever sit behind Tebow and Cameron Newton, guys who are more athletic and better suited to Florida's offense.

AJ Abrams

While watching the Big East tourney (GO NOVA), I did some data mining.

When AJ takes 14 or more shots, our record is 4 and 7. Those four wins came against bad or overmatched teams: Nichols St, Texas St, LSU (5-11 SEC), and Baylor. Each of those losses were either close games or very winnable: Tenn, Mich St, OSU, KSU.

When AJ shoots 13 times or less, we're 18-1, the only loss coming in that aTm blowout.

I know that PB, in what seems like every single game preview, pleads for AJ to not hang up those ugly floaters, or try to shoot over 6-5 defenders, or do anything BUT catch-and-shoot, so I know I'm not being all that original. But our team has too many problems defensively and in rebounding to worry about a 5-10 guard taking shots away from K Smoove.

Is it possible that Barnes forces AJ to hold up a little more before the real tourney starts? Or is AJ gonna hasten our early exit when he chucks up 18?
