It would appear that the soon to be home run king tested positive for some form of amphetimine and then, rather than man up and admit it, tried to blame it on Mark Sweeney.
I'm not sure what is worse, telling everyone he never failed a drug test, when he did, or ratting out a teammate.

Randy Johnson
The Yankees allegedly want to move Johnson, paving the way for Clemens (who doesn't like him much).
The Yankees desire a first baseman.
Sexson is often rumored to be trade bait.
Is this a match made in heaven? Johnson is owed a butt load of money on his contract, but given what crappy pitchers (Meche) are getting, his contract looks better.
Yes Johnson is old. Yes, he has been in decline. But, he would stir up the fan base with a revival of old memories and he would be a stop gap until the pitching in the minors is ready.
If Bavasi were going to acquire another pitcher, this one would make the ticket buying public who post on the PI Blog spend money...your thoughts?

Department of Marinerland Security
We need to create this department and have a color coded system (work with me here):
Red: Fuck me....Bill awoke from a dream and has his roster and cell phone
Orange: Oh shit....Is thinking about losing his job, has roster and cell phone
Yellow: Uh oh! Another GM is calling Bill
Green: No danger today. Bill didn't wake up this morning and appears to no longer have a pulse.

Check this out: http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/6268850 Hopefully this will not be a major distraction for him and will be in the background by spring training.
First I had heard of this.

The M's and Manny
Peter Gammons is reporting that the M's are in the hunt for Manny....maybe we'll see Guillen and others head to Boston...http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2685697
Depending on who we part with, this definately would change my outlook on the off season.

Hargroves mid season replacement...
May very well be coaching double A ball for the M's: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/mariners/2003425062_mari14.html
We all want him gone and Bavasi will have to do something to save his own ass. This guy could have the savy and the skills to do it. Let's face it, hitching your wagon to a mule like Hargrove will leave you on the side of the road before too long.

Free Agents
More and more players are declaring...what are your thoughts on Widger for a backup catcher...he is capable of handling pitchers and could fill in for a few weeks if needed. His bat off of the bench isn't hurtful either.
And, Ohka in the rotation. He has had ups and downs...but Safeco and the M's defense could make him look much better than he is.

Matsuzaka posted...
He is posted: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/10/10/sports/AS_SPT_BBL_Matsuzaka_Majors.php
Now the bidding starts!
300 word minimum...TOKYO Highly regarded pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka was given permission by the Seibu Lions on Tuesday to pursue a career in the major leagues, according to local media reports.
Matsuzaka is still one year away from becoming a free agent but Seibu is expected to use the posting system in which major league teams present bids for Japanese players with the highest bidder winning negotiating rights, Kyodo News agency reported Tuesday.
Matsuzaka, who has drawn interest from several major league teams including the New York Yankees, finished the 2006 regular season with a career-high 17 wins against five losses.
The 26-year-old right-hander posted a 2.13 earned run average and 200 strikeouts.
Matsuzaka has long been considered one of the brightest prospects in Japanese professional baseball.
In his eight-year career in Japan, Matsuzaka has led the Pacific League in wins three times and in strikeouts four times while winning the ERA title twice and the Sawamura Award, Japan's version of the Cy Young Award, once.
Matsuzaka impressed major league scouts when he helped Japan win the inaugural World Baseball Classic title last March and was named MVP of the tournament.

ESPN's Home Town Bums
They didn't get them all, but they came close to nailing all the bums in Mariner history: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=caple/060913
I had almost gotten the memories of Booby Ayala out of my head.....
One-line diaries are prohibited on Lookout Landing. Give your diary a bit more thought, then give it another shot. If you have nothing to add to your proposed diary, then it probably belongs as a comment under another appropriate thread.
The minimum is 300 characters.

People are making noise that the M's recent 10-5 stretch might save his job....What the hell? Did someone put peyote in the water?
