The Phinsider Separated at birth?

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin.

I need a humor break from Manning Up 24/7. Show me your pics of our beloved new coach's look-a-likes. This is meant as pure humr relief and I do not mean to disrespect or demean anyone. Just having some fun. I know this is fanshot worthy only, but I have never read a fanshot (ghasp!) so I know that there is much better chance of being read as a fanpost, so go ahead and flame me if you are a fanpost nazi, I hope I at least made you chuckle before you do. Now have at it. Show us your pics - anyone on the new staff is worthy of a good roasting.

The Phinsider 15 Phins receivers < Marshall?

It's true:

"Fifteen wide receivers have caught passes for the Dolphins the past three seasons. In that span, Brandon Marshall has more touchdowns and 100-yard games than all of them combined."

"Marshall caught 101 passes for 1,120 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, including an NFL-record 21 at Indianapolis. He has 327 career receptions for 4,019 yards and 25 touchdowns in four seasons..."

CategoryMarshallMiami
Receptions 307 521
Rec. yards 3,710 6,257
Rec. TDs 23 18
100-yard games 10 9

When was the last time the Dolphins had a receiver with those numbers? This is a great day for Dolphin fans - and a long time coming. A big thank you to all of Dolphin FO and ownership!!!!

The Phinsider Pennington signs for one year

What does this mean for shorty? We don't need 4 QB's...

"The two sides have reached an agreement in which Pennington will receive a one-year contract for $2.5 million but allow for another $1.515 million if he is traded, according to sources. A team interested in Pennington confirmed that it was informed of Pennington's renewed commitment to the the Dolphins.

Pennington had requested a no-trade clause that was rejected by the Dolphins. If he's traded, he'll make $4.15 million in 2010 but his primary goal is to strengthen is surgically repaired shoulder throughout the year, mentor the team's young quarterbacks and provide insurance at the position if he's needed to play, a team source said. The Phinsider Ricky Williams Interview 9am today!

Ricky Williams will be giving an interview today, Sunday December 13th at 9:00am on the NFL Network. I have always enjoyed Ricky's straight forward and candid style. No BS, no pretense or puffery, just a refreshingly honest and personal perspective. Look forward to how he feels being the solo running back and carrying the ball 20+ times per game again. Run Ricky Run! Go Dolphins!

The Phinsider Playoffs? Playoffs?

Great ESPN article on the playoff picture.

"...the Patriots are about to embark on the AFC's most difficult remaining schedule. Their opponents are 38-28 for a robust .576 winning percentage.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, have the AFC's third-easiest path and the smoothest in the division by far. Their remaining opponents are 30-35 for a .462 win percentage. "

"The Miami Dolphins actually might catch the New England Patriots. "

We are still in this folks.

The Phinsider Trojans score on Beavers!

Sorry, I know it's not the Dolphins, but that was the most hilarious college football title I have ever heard. I am sure some of you guys could come up with some creative headings for the USC Trojans beating the Oregon Beavers yesterday.

Trojans stiff Beavers!

Beavers don't break Trojans!

Trojans snatch victory with big score on Beavers!

Trojans hold on tight and squeak one out on Beavers!

Have fun with it... and GO DOLPHINS!!!!!!

The Phinsider Taint WildCat with a Bush

"Reggie Bush enjoyed running a simulation of the Miami Dolphins' Wildcat offense in practice this week -- and said he even broke out a few long runs with it."

I expect the real Wildcat to do more of the same. As good as Brees is, the Dolphins have beaten the Saints the last 3 times we've played them and also beat Brees all 3 times we played him as a Charger. Let's add one more to that to be a perfect 7-0 against the Bolts & Brees.

The Phinsider Monster Bush

Actually Redbull energy drink just signed Reggie Bush to an endorsement deal.

Here are a few product endorsements our players are considering:

Jake's Pancake Mix - The flattest Flopjakes around. Available in a 317lb Sack. Cost $30 million. Sunday's special: Buy one get 2 sacks free.

Fasano's Pig Grease - Just slap some of this lube on that pigskin and watch it squirt out on contact. Cost $535k. BOGO on Sunday!

JPeezy's Magic Set - The famous dissappearing act is not to be missed. Cost $32 million.

Any other products you think they could be hocking?

The Phinsider Dolphins Receiving ranks 29th

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9787230/Positional-Power-Rankings:-WR/TE-packages

The Pats are #2 and the Bills are #3. Ok, Penne is a short pass artist (and quite good at it) and will probably be the starting QB for the 2009 season. So is next year the year we pick a top reciever in the draft or throw some money at a free agent when the long ball Henne takes over? I think we have the slot well filled with both Camarillo and Bess and TE seems to be sufficient. But we have no proven effctive weapon (hopefully one of the newbies will shine) at either WR spot. I'm sorry, I think Teddy is a swell guy, but don't see him being more than an average receiver. In this division, that will not get it done.

Four of our first 6 games are against teams that rank in the top 10. With rookies as our best hope for corners (no diss to Will Allen) how are we going to keep pace with these teams? I love the moves the FO made this year and I am still a believer, but we may be in for quite a reality check compared to the dream come true of last year.

The Phinsider Top 10 Cases of Buyer's Remorse

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8624346/Top-10-cases-of-buyer's-remorse

Dolphins only team with two...

4. Miami Dolphins wide receiver Ernest Wilford: Even Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland has called Wilford a "disappointment" during a recent interview with South Florida reporters. Miami inked Wilford to a four-year, $13 million free-agent deal that included $6 million guaranteed. This came after he notched a team-high 45 catches for Jacksonville in 2007. That's 44 more receptions than what Wilford has made for Miami through three games. He isn't among the top three players on what is arguably the NFL's worst wide receiver corps.

6. Miami quarterback Josh McCown: The free-agent contract McCown received -- two years, $6.25 million with $2.5 million guaranteed -- was in line with what other low-end starters and top-tier backups earn at his position. McCown, though, couldn't cement himself as either in Miami despite facing modest competition from second-year quarterback John Beck and rookie Chad Henne. Shortly after signing Chad Pennington, the Dolphins ate the $2.5 million cap hit and traded McCown to Carolina for a 2009 seventh-round draft pick.

The Phinsider The Dolphin Paradox

Ok so what was supposed to be our strength and what was supposed to be our weakness coming into this season?

Last Year's Defense:

We were ranked 4th in pass defense, so we didn't change a thing. We basically have the exact same people as last year. Now we are ranked 30th?

We were ranked dead last against the run. So we got rid of our two best defensive players and only pro bowlers (on D) and brought in rookies. Now we rank 12th?

Last Years Offense:

We averaged 98 yd/game without Ricky and most of the year without Ronnie (who was leading the league in yds from scrimmage) with a poor offensive line. Now with both of them back and healthy with an "improved" offensive line we are ranked 29th averaging 50 yds/game combined?

We draft Derek Hagan and Ted Ginn to improve our reciever corpse. Ginn has 3 catches and Hagan 3.

Ginn was supposed to be the special teams ace. Now has 3 punt returns for 9 yds and no KO returns?

Losing is frustrating, but when each year moves are made to iprove our team but result in something enirely different, it makes it just that more difficult to envision forward progress, and that is even more frutrating than losing.

The Phinsider Jason Taylor's First Non-Dolphin Game

JT's stats: 2 tackles and was run on all night long. No sacks, no pressures, no hurries, no batted balls. I know he is coming off of a knee injury but it didn't look like that was an issue.

The Redskins, with all of the big names looked awful. I wonderful if our Fins will have a better record than them this year? Sparano/Pennington should manage the 4th qtr better than that at least.

The Phinsider Cadillac, Benson and Brown

Remember whe the 3 top running backs of the 2005 draft? I remember quie a heated debate of which the Dolphins should take and why. Well with Caddy sitting out on IR for the entire 2008 season and Benson jettisoned from the Bears an unemployed and maybe out for the year himself via Goodell for his drinking and behavior problems.

Let's compare 3 year Stats (Williams and Brown had almost identical # of carries and Benson played more games than Brown)

yds/carry avg Brown 4.4, Williams 3.8, Benson 3.8

Recieving yds Brown 897, Williams 294, Benson 180

TD's Brown 13, Williams 10, Benson 10

Williams and Benson were less productive each consecutive year, while Bown was more productive consecutive each year, on pace his 3rd year to have a monster year (leading the league in YFS).

For once, I think we can now say, we actually picked the right draft pick in the 2005 draft.
