From MLBTR: TheoJed apparently think we have no talent in the minors
Before the start of last season, were we a team that had a ton of potential MLBer in the farm, but not any (or a lot) of potential all stars. I wish the report on this was more clear, but I wouldn't say we have a "lack of talent".
Here is the quote from MLBTR:
"•Cubs execs Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are alarmed by the lack of minor league talent in their own system, so trading Garza might appeal to them. The Yankees, one possible suitor for the right-hander, have had concerns about Garza’s ability to handle New York in the past, Rosenthal reports."
Gaby Sanchez
"If Pujols takes 10-year offer from Miami, look for Cubs to try and acquire 1B Gaby Sanchez, who fits their long term gameplan"
So, thinking about this, I wouldn't object fully to this idea. What says the BCB crew?
Players that do well in the MLB after their prospect status fades?
I know I'm kicking a dead horse here, but why can't we give Micah HoffPower Jr. a shot? There have been other players that have performed well after their "prospect" age had past. Let's try to think of examples, I'm considering a player full time if they played in over 100ish games?

Winners, losers and tweeners from trade deadline
Interesting take from Jeff Passan and he hit the nail on the head when talking about the Cubs:
"19. Chicago Cubs, who had every reason to gut their roster and held onto … Reed Johnson(notes)? Jeff Baker(notes)? Sean Marshall(notes)? Matt Garza(notes)? Everyone except Starlin Castro(notes)? Jim Hendry, who once negotiated a contract as he was having a stent put in his chest, should’ve at least tried what Wade did: make an attempt to steer the ship the right way in the future, even if it’s for another GM. He didn’t. And so the Cubs, too, are the worst kind of losers: the ones who won’t trade Reed Johnson. In the same vein but not nearly as bad are the …"
Now, I don't think we should have traded Garza, unless he brought back more than what he cost, and I would rather keep Marshall and dump Marmol.
Understanding a backup catcher
I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but lets all consider what a backup catcher. As someone (I don't know who but my computer crashes when I get in that thread) pointed out in today's game thread, the difference of Hill hitting .200 and another hitting .250 could be a difference of 10 hits (not so much). But I wanted to state that 10 hits could be a 1-2 runs, which could mean a win if the runs come in at the right time.
Rays Designate Leslie Anderson For Assignment
"The Rays designated Leslie Anderson for assignment to create roster space for Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon, according to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times (on Twitter). The Rays designated outfielder Justin Ruggiano for assignment in a related move earlier today.
The Rays officially signed Anderson, a Cuban defector, to a four-year, $1.725MM contract in April. At the time, Rays director of international operations Carlos Alfonso said the 28-year-old was appealing "because of his athleticism, and the fact that he can play all three outfield positions, as well as first base."
Anderson reached Triple-A last year, hitting .302/.359/.442 with 31 extra base hits across three levels. The left-handed hitter split his time between first base and left field."
Anyone else think we should take a look at this? He can play 3 OF positions and 1B. He could be a great backup player to have in AAA in case there is an injury in the bigs.
Money Spent Not on the Draft
I was having a discussion with a fellow Cubs fan about the two recent signings of Cuban player. We were wondering how much money we have spent in signing bonus and contracts in the past three year on Koreans and Cubans.

Cubs Rumors: Theriot, Trades, Piniella
I see this as the GM holding on to hope and the manager thinking the season is over. I guess Piniella has thrown in the towel. Bring up Sandberg ASAP.
THE ANSWER IS SO SIMPLE
I KNOW THAT BIG Z HAD A RUN IN WITH THE TEAM, BUT HE IS AWESOME . YOU SHOW EMOTION LIKE THAT, THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT HE WANTS TO WIN. THIS IS WHAT I THINK SHOULD HAPPEN SO WE MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.

Cubs, Rays After Park
Park could be a middle relief guy that brings a vetern arm into the pen. I would not give him a bunch of money, but his health has been better than say, Calero's.
Which Cub Prospects Can Contribute In 2010?
I have a question for Josh, or anyone who thinks they have a good handle on what is going on in the Cubs minor league system. I have seen a lot of lists of who the top players (highest ceiling) are in the system, but I want to know who are the players that are ready to contribute.

Astros Designate Jason Bourgeois For Assignment
Could this be our 5th OF?
Angel Pagan Drawing Trade Interest
If the Bradley for Burrell deal happens, do you think we could get Castillo and Pagan for Burrell?
Can someone help me figure out what happened against Minnesota
Because I was driving home after the long weekend, I didn't get a chance to watch/listen to the game. Was this another case of can't run the ball, so let's do dump passes passes to the flats. This is what I see:
What to do with Marshall?
With all the talk about need of bullpen help, what do you all expect to do with Marshall. Will he be in contention for the 5th starting job again, or be strickly middle/long relief.
Time to get yelled at...
Halladay, what would it take. I have read a few "rumors" over the past few days, and it seems that maybe the Cubs would be able to get him if they offered the right package. So here goes my weak attempt to create a MLB The Show type of trade:
Dempster to the Pen???
Watching Baseball Tonight last night, John Kruk was suggesting leaving Gorzelanny in the rotation, and moving Dempster into the closer role he had a few years back.
Cubs Acquire John Grabow, Tom Gorzelanny?
Who is Tom Gorzelanny?
Halladay or Peavy?
If BCB could decide, who would you rather have on our rotation? Roy Halladay or Jake Peavy?
What do you think about Aubrey Huff?
Speculating here. Ok, we all know we have lack of depth at 3B. I read yesterday that Huff will probably be on the block before the trade deadline. He is listed at 1B, but has play quite a bit of 3B, as well as both outfield spots.
Who is Blake Parker and where did he come from? Possible help in the pen???
I was looking at AAA stats for Iowa, and saw that hey have a good looking closer, at least on paper.
Should Vitters be moved up to AA?
Based on what I'm looking at, I think Vitters has deserved to see better competition.
