Neat article by Brian Hendrickson on the neglected 1/2 of our center tandem. Some interesting stats on Joel's performance so far this year.

"He's just a very, very good basketball player. Very smart. Very heady. He can do a little bit of everything on the court. As coaches, when we scout Portland we kind of put him in the same category as Kobe (Bryant), LeBron (James), Dwyane Wade. We treat him the same. He's that good."

Dwight Jaynes - Reports of Trout / Conley discussions

Per Dwight this AM - "Sam’s (Smith) reporting that the Trail Blazers have offered Travis Outlaw for Memphis point guard (and old Greg Oden teammate) Mike Conley. Sam seems to think that’s not enough to get Conley but I’d say it’s more than enough."

Granted it is Sam Smith, so the B.S. meter is running high, but if Dwight is mentioning it, it might not be complete hooey.

I took my kids to the local pumpkin patch in Woodinville and as I was parking my car, I saw a guy walking up with his family sporting a Blazers warmup pullover. Of course, I had to roll down my window and complement the owner on his excellent sartorial taste.

Last week, I saw someone in the Top Foods sporting a Brandon Roy jersey.

And the roofer who is reroofing my house mentioned that he was switching his allegiance from OKC (Seattle) to Portland.

And, of course, there is me.

If this isn't a sign, I don't know what is!

Marty talking about his injury and how he's dealing with it mentally as well as physically. Sounds as if January is the timeframe for his return to the floor (practicing in December). It ends with a poignant shot of him practicing shots from a folding chair. Get well soon, Marty!

"Offseason champion: Despite an injury that has shelved him during the preseason, Channing Frye earned the Blazers' second annual most outstanding worker award, given to the player who demonstrates the best work ethic in Portland in the offseason. Jarrett Jack won it last year. "

I hope this isn't a preview to Channing being traded in the 2008-9 offseason...maybe I'm just paranoid or have watched too many movies with ham-handed foreshadowing.

Bring out your junk! Bring out your junk!

No, Tom, I didn't mean *that* sort of junk.

Did anyone else laugh at the the outtakes of Travis on O-Live yesterday (http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2008/09/part_iv_the_outlaw_out_takes.html)? Especially when Trout was concerned for Bruce Ely's, erm...valuables? Not to mention the ever-evolving story on how Trout scraped his arms.

Day two of kindergarten went well for Lily. She had P.E. so she's already in better shape than me.

BTW: I'm extremely disappointed that it is almost 9:30AM and there's still no junk drawer...

So much for dreams of Williams

There has been quite a lot of speculation on KP trying to prise Deron Williams away from the Jazz. I'd say the latest development in the story has pretty much killed these hopes. Specifically, Fox Sports is reporting (http://msn.foxsports.com/other/wcStory?contentId=8118850#story=8356130) that Williams has agreed to a $70M extension (over 3 years). I'd say that effectively puts him out of reach unless we want to go deep into cap space.

Is this an accurate assessment? Do you think KP / PA would still be willing to pursue Williams now that his contract puts him into the same general territory as Chris Paul?

NBA Votes 28-2 to relocate the Sonics

Two things of note:

Just because the vote went in favor of Bennett et al doesn't mean that the court ruling with regard to the terms of sale will stand.

The two mavericks (pun intended) who voted against the move? Mark Cuban...and Portland's own Paul Allen!

A sad day for Sonics fans, but I'm proud of Paul Allen (and Mark Cuban, though I'm loathe to admit it) for standing up to David Stern on this issue.
