Why is everybody giving Frank Wren a free pass???
Everybody around the site seems to give Frank Wren a vote of confidence in the job he's doing...what I can't figure out is why. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the moves he makes, and he doesn't seem to have an end goal in mind at all. Let's look back at some of the moves he's made...
-Signed Tom Glavine to a 1 year deal
Did anyone actually think he'd have helped the team to the playoffs after seeing him with the mets? I wouldn't complain about the signing on a nostalgia basis, aside from the fact that the mets ended up with two picks in the top 33 of the draft as a result. They picked a good corner infield prospect, and the best pitcher in their system with the picks. Terrible move considering it didn't help the braves at all...
-Traded Joey Devine for Mark Kotsay
Devine may be missing this season after undergoing tommy john surgery, but how can you justify trading him for Mark Kotsay? The guy was terrible.
-Drafting Josh Fields
Nice idea to help the pen, but did you do any research??? You must have had some idea of his contract demands.
-Trading Mark Texiera
The first tex trade was definately a terrible trade, but why compound it by trading him for Kotchman and Marek? Does anybody think they couldn't have picked up better prospects with the guys they would get in the draft???
-Kenshin Kawakami
Did we really think we were in a position to commit 8 million per season to an unknown with 4th starter upside? When did George Steinbrenner take over?
