Was Chip Kelly the best Bucs head coach of all time?
University of Oregon football coach Chip Kelly told a highly placed UO source late Sunday night that he has reversed course and decided to turn down an offer from the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The source told The Register-Guard earlier Sunday night that Kelly had reached an agreement to become Tampa Bay’s head coach. “It’s done,” the source said.
Just before midnight, Kelly changed his mind, telling the source: “I’m staying.”
A second UO source confirmed that Kelly is staying.
Kelly told one assistant coach Sunday night that he had been offered the Tampa Bay job, but Kelly told him he wasn’t certain what he would do.

OTTOTD for 6/21/11: We got him!
British authorities, working in cooperation with the FBI, announced on Tuesday that they'd arrested an alleged mastermind of the LulzSec hacking group.
"Officers from the Metropolitan Police Central e-Crime Unit (PCeU) have arrested a 19-year-old man in a pre-planned intelligence-led operation," according to a statement released by Britain's Metropolitan Police Service, aka Scotland Yard. "The arrest follows an investigation into network intrusions and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks against a number of international business and intelligence agencies by what is believed to be the same hacking group."
Just kidding, the FBI got embarrassed again

Rays switching to AstroTurf at the Trop
The Rays got the 1.1 million square feet of turf at no cost as part of AstroTurf's sponsorship arrangement with Major League Baseball, with installation to be completed by mid February.
The turf, less bouncy and slightly different than what is installed at Toronto's Rogers Centre, is called GameDay Grass 3D60H. It features a horseshoe-shaped polymer fiber that the company says will remain upright longer to create a more "grass-like, uniform, predictable" surface, leave fewer rug burns when fielders slide or dive, and last longer, with an eight-year guarantee. The previous FieldTurf was installed in 2007.
Rays sign Chris Carter to a minor league deal
The Rays signed Chris Carter to a minor league deal, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. The Mets non-tendered the 28-year-old in December after he appeared in a career-high 100 games in 2010. Rubin reports that Carter will earn $12K per month in the minors and $420K in the majors.
Carter, who arrived in New York in the 2009 Billy Wagner trade, has big league experience in left and right field. The left-handed hitter posted a .263/.317/.389 line in 180 plate appearances last year. The Mets shielded him from southpaws in 2010; all but 7 of his plate appearances came against right-handed pitching.
Bartlett Trade Finalized: Rays Receive Adam Russell, Cesar Ramos, Brandon Gomes, and Cole Figueroa
Rays will also be sending a PTBNL to SD along with Bartlett. From MLB Trade Rumors:
The Padres have acquired Jason Bartlett from the Rays, tweets Marty Caswell of XX1090 Sports Radio. San Diego will also send a player to be named later to Tampa Bay in exchange for Brandon Gomes, Adam Russell, Cesar Ramos, and Cole Figueroa. The Rays have scheduled a conference call for 6:45pm EST, presumably to discuss details of the re-worked trade, according to Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times (via Twitter).

11/19 OTTOTD - Damn

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/11/19/tampas-mike-williams-arrested-for-dui/
Receiver Mike Williams has overcome plenty of self-imposed adversity to become one of the best rookies of the 2010 class. He now has a little more self-imposed adversity to overcome. A tipster has advised us — and we’ve confirmed via the website of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office — that Williams was arrested today for DUI. According to the available information, Williams’ breath testing registered a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.065 and 0.061 percent. Urine testing also is being conducted. He remains in custody as of this posting.

OTTOTD 7/9 - The Decision
Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;
As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.
This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.
Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.
The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.
There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.
You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.
You have given so much and deserve so much more.
In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:
"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"
You can take it to the bank.
If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.
Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.
Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.
This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.
But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.
The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.
Just watch.
Sleep well, Cleveland.
Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....
I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:
DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....![]()

Indians sign Russell Branyan
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/35484616/ns/sports-player_news/ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports that Russell Branyan has agreed to terms with the Indians on a one-year, $2 million contract.
The deal also contains $1 million in performance-based bonuses and a $5 million option for 2011. Branyan, 34, will provide insurance at first base for Matt LaPorta, who is coming off multiple surgeries, and he might even find time at DH. Branyan also drew heavy interest from the Rays.
Sportvision’s FieldFX camera system

Am I late? Has this been around long and it's just now getting media attention or is it in fact new?Sportvision’s FieldFX camera system records the action while object-recognition software identifies each fielder and runner, as well as the ball. After a play, the system spits out data for every movement: the trajectory of the ball, how far the fielder ran, and so on. “After an amazing catch by an outfielder, we can compare his speed and route to the ball with our database and show the TV audience that this player performed so well that 80 percent of the league couldn’t have made that catch,” says Ryan Zander, Sportvision’s manager of baseball products. That information, he says, will allow a much more quantitative measure of exactly what is an error.
