I became a Broncos fan not because of proximity nor by anyone's influence. It was the colors. I grew up on Long Island, and since my Dad isn't much the sports fan, I picked up my teams over a few years in the mid-1980's. First were the Islanders, fresh off a dynastic 4-year Stanley Cup run - only to end to the hated Oilers and Gretzky in my first year as a fan. The following year, I became a Mets fan and was blessed to see them win the World Series a year later. I'm still waiting for that next championship. Both the Islanders and Mets wear orange and blue uniforms...

A few months later, I flipped on the TV as a 9-year-old football newbie and happened upon a game featuring two orange teams. The home team wore orange helmets and white uni's, while the road team wore blue helmets and beautifully bright orange jerseys! Well, the choice was easy. I had to root for the blue and orange, right? Of course, this game happened to be the 1986 AFC Championship, better known as "The Drive". Elway and the Broncos had me hooked. Two weeks later, I watched my new team get smoked as my friends celebrated a Giants SB championship, and the rest is history. I've been a die-hard Broncos fan ever since, with a couple of trips to Denver (with face paint) and to SB XXXIII to see Elway's final game.

I have lived in NYC for over nine years, working as a stock broker for the past twelve. Recently married, I am in the midst of converting my Wisconsin-bred wife into a Broncos fan (she's certainly getting there). Unfortunately, she has become a Mets fan only to witness back-to-back horrific late-season collapses, and now a similar fall for the 2008 Broncos.
