With the Second pick in the draft, the Detroit Lions select Defensive Tackle Ndamukong Suh of Nebraska. The Lions become the grand prize winners of the 2010 draft thanks to the Rams going for a quarterback.
The legacy of Matt Millen ends with the draft of the top wide receiver (Calvin Johnson) of 2008. Martin Mayhew pulls in the (debatable) top Quarterback of 2009, the top Tight End of 2009 (Brandon Pettigrew), and the top Safety of 2009 (Louis Delmas) to add two more wins to the Lions season. After seeing the performance of Matt Stafford throughout the year, Detroit feels security in the quarterback position for years to come. This pick gives Detroit the same stability on the Defensive line. There really is no position that Detroit couldn't use any help, but talent is going to be the top priority right now. Many Detroit fans want to see Eric Berry, but Suh presents the chance for a once in a decade player that Detroit has lacked since the retirement of Barry Sanders. If Detroit was given the option to trade Stafford for Bradford and Suh for Smith, they would never take it. Two good drafts in a row should put Detroit on the path to mediocrity with a head start on St. Louis.
Even if a trade is not in the cards, the Lions can't be disappointed with this choice.
BCC/Team Teal Meetup
It's that time again to start the ticket sales push for 2010. The opportunity to have a Team Teal ticket sales event and a BCC meetup is something that I think could be a great event.
I have a large space available downtown that could be used to host the event for free if everyone is interested in having a get together. I would want to have a Team Teal Captain (3 year season ticket commitment) come to the event to help with season ticket sales. Terry Obrien is currently the Captain of TKO Team, so if anyone could get in touch with him, he could be a big help.
Depending on the interest level, we could have a small cover charge (5-10 dollars) and have Sonny's BBQ and a keg. If this isn't popular, BYOB would still be an option for everyone over 21. The cover charge would only go to cover the cost of food and nothing more.
I would like to have a door prize or two available for those who purchase season tickets at the event. A jersey, autograph, or something like this would be a nice gift for a new season ticket holder.
Basically, just let me know what you think and if this is something to consider further. If you are willing to contribute in any way, please let us know in the comments what your ideas are. Use the poll to show how likely you are to come to this event. Thanks!
