Iowa Ladies Football Academy
On June 18, 2011 will be the inaugural Iowa Ladies Football Academy.
This event is a fund raising opportunity for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. For $50 and pledges of at least $300 more (this is all tax deductible remember) you will get the opportunity to come out of the locker room and down the tunnel as the swarm to "Back in Black" You will get to work with the position coaches and even have the opportunity for prizes for the top fundraisers. Capping the night off will be Coach Ferentz wrapping up the day himself.
Head on to http://iowaladiesfootballacademy.com/the-academy/ to sign up as there is limited space.
I wish I could go myself, but alas, I seem to not have all of the correct chromosomes.
Follow the numbers
So why did Coach Fran actively pursue the Iowa job while spurning alleged offers from Seton Hall and St John’s?
I think he followed the money.
If you look at revenue generated by athletic departments and where they rank, the top 20 only includes Kansas at 11. This number is most likely skewed as the most recent data I can find and am working from is 2007-08 and that year Kansas was in the Orange Bowl so they have a definite football boost there. The other traditional basketball schools (Duke, NC, Kentucky, UCLA, UNLV and Arizona all come much lower (all revenue is rounded to the nearest million, and rankings are based on schools with FBS football programs):
22 Kentucky $71m
23 Duke $68m
25 UCLA $66m
31 North Carolina $61m
50 Arizona $47m
71 UNLV $33m
