Kyle Kuric injury
According to Pitino, the reason Kuric only played 5 minutes against FIU was he suffered a mild concussion during the first half. He said he probably won't play on Saturday against South Alabama, but should be ready for the Wednesday game against San Fransisco.
I was at the game and don't remember seeing him fall or get hit particularly hard. Does anyone know what happened?
And on a brighter note (to make this longer), Preston definitely saw me doing the Preston dance after he made one of his threes.
Doug Beaumont seeks big finish
If he doesn't score a touchdown on our first drive of the season, I'm gonna be mildly disappointed. I can't think of a player I want to see succeed more.
Preston! Punches guy in the face
So, apparently Preston punched his girlfriends step-father in the face claiming self-defense. I doubt there will be any serious repercussions, but it's something to keep an eye on.
Trent Guy to the Raiders
I like how the article points out he got shot.
Good luck Trent!
Ashley at corner?
Just got back from spring practice and was surprised to see the defense coaches working with Darius Ashley at cornerback. Overall he seemed to due decently well. He got a pick in one-on-ones, forced a fumble in scrimmage, and got burned repeatedly by Beaumont (but then again, most of the defense did). The funniest thing was seeing Ashley (whose 5'8) lining up against Chichester two or three times.
So, what are your opinions on this? I think it might be a good thing, since we already have Powell and Anderson as running backs, and Jeremy Wright is just running everyone over. I'm thinking maybe the reason they're considering moving Ashley over Wright would be athleticism and versatility, but it may be that they try Wright later and see who does better.
Now for just a practice update. Wright injured his left knee at the end of practice, and after initially getting up to walk it off he laid back down. One of the coaches walked up to him (while all the trainers were working on him) and said "You better be hurt. You better not be f----ing with us. If you're not on crutches tomorrow, I'm gonna run you." It didn't look that bad, so no need to worry.
Some of the other quotes from the coaches were funny as well, but the two big highlights from the day were a 65 yard option run by Wright, and a 55 yard touchdown run by Chichester.
Ole Miss Mascot
Off topic, but I found it awesome. Not saying I want to get rid of the Cardinal Bird, but if this was the other option... well, our dance team could all dress up like Princess Leia.
Caracter blames Chinese food for him sucking
This was linked from the Edgar Sosa article DocCardsFan posted:
By now, everyone knows Derrick Caracter's story. He's the insanely talented big man (he was the No. 1 prospect at the start of his high school career), the guy who toppled Greg Oden at ABCD camp in 2006, the monster set to star at Louisville, the one who, after so many half-hearted tries, couldn't keep his weight under control and couldn't get motivated. After several second chances, Caracter left Louisville for good.
The big man ended up not playing big minutes for a loaded Louisville team (imagine a motivated Caracter on last year's No. 1 seed Cardinals) but rather seeking redemption at UTEP, where he's nominally managed to get his act together. It's a shame Caracter's Louisville career ended the way it did, but it's fun to see him figuring things out in El Paso. Who doesn't like a good redemption story?
Caracter seems to have more perspective now. The El Paso Times' Bill Knight talked to him about his time at Louisville and his time at UTEP, and Caracter seemed to boil it down to one disastrous habit: Chinese food.
"I had problems with the coach at the prep school and I didn't play that much and when I got to Louisville, I weighed 320-pounds," he said, shaking his head. "I was just eating Chinese food and doing unnecessary stuff. My first year at Louisville was cool. I felt some of the assistants were harder on me than the other guys, but that just made me better.
"It seemed like I had a certain leadership on the team," he said. "A lot of guys would follow me, do what I did, even dress like me. In some ways that hurt us and in some ways that was a good thing. But if I felt like I was better than David Padgett and I was not playing, I would be negative. Coach (Rick) Pitino felt it was like a cancer, that it would spread."
OK, so obviously Caracter isn't just blaming Chinese food. In fact, "Chinese food" and "unnecessary stuff" are really just code words for "horrific diet" and "penchant for bad lifestyle decisions," neither of which needs to be explained in detail. Which is good, because I love Chinese food. If Chinese food was really so responsible for costing Caracter his first shot at basketball stardom, could I still devour it with such gusto? Doubtful. I don't want to give up Chinese food. This is a huge relief.
In the meantime, Caracter is averaging 14 points and almost nine rebounds per game for a 16-5 UTEP team. The Miners are hot, too -- they've won their last five, including a huge overtime win at UAB on Jan. 30. It's far from the bright lights and top seeds of the Big East, but Caracter is finally making an impact. It's a shame it took this long for him to pinpoint the (deliciously fried) problem.

CC gets some recognition on ESPN
Just thought it was cool that Card Chronicle got a hat tip from ESPN.
Brohm may start Sunday
The article says Fitzpatrick is a game-time decision and if he's out than Brohm gets the start. The game is against the Falcons, so it would be Brohm vs. Ryan. By this point the Bills season is so shot they might as well give Brohm a chance. Just something to keep an eye out for.
Oral Roberts upsets #12 UNM
Makes our 37 point thrashing of them look a little better. This was their first game since playing us. I know it doesn't mean much, but it makes me feel better.
