The one-finger-death-touch of the one-armed-death-fighter

I'm a big lurker on BE and an occasional poster. I made a short animation movie with some mma moves. I know it's not super relevant to post this on BE but I'll give it a try and let the admins decide if it stays.
With Shark Fights next weekend, maybe the movie is kinda relevant...

I promise my next contribution will be more useful.

Bloody Elbow Please stop comparing Patrick Cote and Thales Leites

I know I can't change the world but please, stop comparing Cote and Leites.

It seems it has to be done every time one mention Anderson Silva career. Yes, his two fights prior Forrest Griffin were not total destructions like we're used to from the Spider but the two challengers (and the two fights) were totally different.

UFC 90 - Cote vs Silva

Going into the fight :
Patrick Cote might not have been of the same caliber than Franklin, Marquardt or Hendo but he was a serious striker with a 5 win streak (including the TKO title) and a decision loss to Tito Ortiz (on short notice and on a higher weight-class). It's not the first time that a UFC champ was defending against a non-top 5 opponent (ie Tito vs Sinosic, Franklin vs Quarry, Arlovski vs Eilers, etc) but Cote still offered a challenge. He had never been knocked down and had the power to put the Spider to sleep. Sure, you might call him a one dimensional fighter since his ground is not that good but we all know that Silva like to exchange on the feet and that he wouldn't use his BJJ to win this fight.

Bloody Elbow Predicting fight outcomes - the difference between wishes and beliefs.

Predicting fight outcomes - the difference between wishes and beliefs.

Something has been bothering me for a while when I see the "who do you think will win" poll on ufc ppv. Take for example UFC 90 main event, Silva vs Cote. Before the fight, the poll said that 36% of voters thought that Cote would win. I'm from Quebec and was rooting for Cote, but come on. Would you really have put your money on a 2:1 for Cote? Even though I wished for Cote's victory, I thought that Silva would win that one. Were those 36% all Cote fans or Silva haters that only wished for a the Predator's victory or did they really believed in it?

For UFC 100, there seems to be many fans that hope for a Mir victory but that think Brock will win and might not know how to vote. Therefore I always take these polls (like any damn poll) with a grain of salt.

I think that the polls should be more precise and ask 2 questions:
1. Who do you want to win?
2. Who do you think will win?

The answers to these questions might not always match.

So if you're into it, let's try this poll with the main event. The outcome might be interesting. I'd like to do this for GSP-Alves and Hendo-Bisping but it seems we can only do one poll per post. If it gets success, we might do it for the other ones as well.

Poll
Brock vs Mir
1. I wish Mir will win and I think he will.
10 votes
2. I wish Mir will win but I think that Brock will.
21 votes
3. I wish Brock will win and I think he will.
18 votes
4. I wish Brock will win but I think that Mir will.
1 votes
5. I don't care who win but I think Mir will.
1 votes
6. I don't care who win but I think Brock will.
11 votes

Bloody Elbow David the Crow Loiseau

David the Crow Loiseau UFC highlights from DrTopo on Vimeo.

David "the Crow" Loiseau has been one of my favorite fighter for a while so I figured I'd do a little video to hype his upcoming fight against Ed Herman at UFC 97 in Montreal.
Loiseau fought seven times in the UFC but got cut after lackluster losses to Rich Franklin and Mike Swick. If you've seen one of his better fight, you probably remember his nasty elbow strikes. He's cut quite a few of his opponents with his elbows, from the clinch or during brutal ground and pound. Other will remember the beautiful spinning back kick to Charles McCarthy, which the Crow uses in all his fights.

What actually made me a fan of the Crow was his ground defense. He has the habit of giving up his back and is a master at defending the rear naked choke. He will give his back from the bottom, then his opponent will try to choke him and roll with him. He then uses wrist control to spin and get back on top position. Then comes the ground and pound.

Try to get a hold of his fight against Evan Tanner, at Ultimate Fight Night 2, and you will see the best of Loiseau. That fight gave the Crow a title shot against Rich Franklin which he lost by unanimous decision. Some say he hasn't been the same fighter since then but he got a few good wins outside of the UFC since then. Hopefully we'll see the best of the Crow in Montreal and he can start another succesful run in the UFC.

So, here's a little video highlight of Loiseau. For the record, he lost that fight against Jorge Rivera, even though Jorge was cut badly. Also, notice Bruce Buffer face in the background during the gound and pound at 3:30.

Enjoy.
