Devils at Flyers - Second Period Thread
If this game had a reset button, I have no doubt Lavy would be pressing it furiously right now...
At least we can start fresh in a new thread. Let's go Flyers.
Helping the Rangers fans: Final Planning Thread
Since the other FanPost has now dropped off the front page, I wanted to try to get a cohesive thread together to finalize what we're actually going to do. I've pieced together a tentative plan based on the comments in the other two threads, and I want to try to get feedback on it before proceeding.

Helping A Rangers Fan: Details & Updates
Bumped to the front page for obviously obvious reasons. - Travis
Continuing what was started in our earlier FanPost, here's a more detailed breakdown of how our effort to do something to reach out to the Rangers fans who were assaulted outside of Geno's Steaks after the Winter Classic last Monday.

UPDATED: Reaching out to the Rangers fans who were assaulted
UPDATE Monday 1/9: Sorry for the delay in determining how we are going to collect the money! I had to get authorization from PayPal on how to do it properly; because otherwise there is a risk of the money being frozen or flagged as suspicious, which would prevent us from being able to make a purchase. This is based on PayPal's customer service telling me the best way to handle the situation, because it's not related to a 501c(3) and thus it isn't covered under their donation policies.
Because this falls under their acceptable use policy as 'a group of people chipping in to buy someone a gift', we need to use the process of Sending Money to a Friend. If you have a PayPal account, click on send money, and then you would send it to my email address, which is DragonGirl0583 AT yahoo.com, the same as the email address in my BSH profile. If you don't have PayPal and do not want to sign up for it; you can email me (same email address), and I can send you a request link, which will allow you to chip in without a log in. PayPal is the most effective means of collecting it, because if we end up going with jerseys or whatever, I can pay for them directly from PayPal without having to actually withdraw anything from the fund.
No one is obligated to participate in this effort, and if you want to chip in, it's whatever you want to add to the account. I'll keep you guys posted on the status of the collection, and one of the other members of the masthead can even audit it if it'll make people more comfortable.
Even though they cheer for a rival team, the fans who were assaulted at Geno's on Monday evening are still part of the global hockey community, just like us. And since real hockey fans stick together, I want to gauge the community's interest on chipping in to do something for the victims.
VorAbaddon deserves full credit for initiating the conversation, by offering up the opening suggestion:
This is an epic bucket of shite and I think we (Meaning – the general Philly fanbase) should do something for the folks who got beaten to a pulp. Mayhaps we can chip in $5-$10 bucks here and there and get them jerseys or something?
Do the folks over at Blueshirt Banter have press credentials they can maybe use to even get some of the Rags to sign the jerseys before we get them to the guys in the hospital?
So if we set up a secure way to collect it, would people be interested in chipping in a couple dollars to do something for them? Vote yes or no in the poll below so we'll know whether or not to get this going, and add any additional suggestions on what we could do in the comments below.

How signing Bob differed from the Hyka situation
Now that Section 8.9(b) has been analyzed regarding the Tomas Hyka situation, there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding why Sergei Bobrovsky wasn't affected by the same rule. Bobrovsky was signed as an Undrafted Free Agent, but happened to be 21 at the moment of the signing, when the rule clearly affects European players under 22. Compounding the confusion is that a player's First SPC Signing Age in Article 9 is listed as being calculated on September 15th, and Bob's 22nd birthday wasn't until September 20th.
So how were we able to sign him?

Today's cuts: Which ones need Re-Entry waivers to come back?
Today is the "12th day prior to the start of the regular season", which means that the waiver period has officially begun. As reported this afternoon, the Flyers have requested waivers for the following players in the hopes of reassigning them if they clear: Johan Backlund, Jason Bacashihua, Jon Kalinski, Stefan Legein, and Dan Jancevski.
So if we need any of these guys in the future, which ones need to clear re-entry waivers to return to the NHL?

BSH Roller Hockey Game, Take 2
I think the first attempt to organize a game ended up fizzling out at the last minute, so we should give scheduling a pick-up game another try.
We've had success with the two rinks that we used most of last year (the one on Marywatersford Rd in Belmont Hills, and the backup rink in the Roxborough area), so I don't think we need to worry about rink locations. After-party suggestions, however, are encouraged.
As always, all skill levels are fine and you can feel free to play on skates or on foot. You're welcome to bring friends, too.
So here's the plan: For everybody who'd like to take part, comment below and list all the dates in the month of September that would work for you. In the past, we've had the most luck on weekend mornings, particularly Sunday mornings. I'll compile them all and keep track of which days accommodate the most people, and we'll get a headcount once we settle on a date.

CBA FAQ, Chapter 1: Acronyms and Definitions
Note from DG:
This is the first in a multi-part series to help the BSH community understand the complicated mess that is the 2005 NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement. Please provide any comments, feedback, suggestions, or any additional questions in the comments section below.
In order to make this Frequently Asked Questions series easier for everyone to understand, I've decided to start off by explaining some of the acronyms and terms that appear in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Some of these definitions are exceedingly simplistic, and their concepts will be explained further in the chapters that cover those sections of the agreement.

Reserve Lists, Contract Limits, and Why I'm Worried
I think the Flyers have painted themselves into a corner.
As of today, the Flyers currently have 40 players signed to NHL contracts for 2011-12. Why is that a bad thing? Because you can only have 50, and that 40 doesn’t include any of the RFAs or UFAs we need to re-sign.

Evaluating Syvret's Free Agent Status
Ed. Note: Bumped from the FanPosts. Fantastic work, Jen. - Travis
As noted in this morning's Fly By, there's some confusion over whether Danny Syvret is a Restricted Free Agent or an Unrestricted Free Agent. CapGeek still says he's an RFA, but he said on the radio yesterday that he's a UFA....
So which one is the truth?

Finally, a Giroux/Briere article that's not creepy
Chuck Gormley over at the Courier Post did a 5 page spread in this morning's paper on Giroux and Briere that dispels the jokes and rhetoric about their living situation. There's a whole lot in this article, it's pretty long.
Pelle Lindbergh crash site memorial
As I'm sure many of you already know, this coming Wednesday (the 10th) is the 25th anniversary of Pelle Lindbergh's fatal car crash. I live a mere 1/2 mile from the accident site, and every year some local fans leave items on the steps in Pelle's memory. I was trying to decide what to leave this year, and I thought that I should offer to leave something collective from the group as opposed to just something from myself. It wouldn't be officially representative of the site, of course, but of the individuals who wanted to be a part of it.

Flyers' thoughts on Kovy's scratch and accountability
Obviously we all have our own opinions regarding Kovy and the Devils, but I found this article interesting based on the quotes from Laviolette, Pronger, and Briere regarding how accountability is handled in the Flyers locker room.
5-game packs for the Devil's AHL games in AC are on sale
The individual tickets for the Phantoms game aren't available yet (I'll let you know when they are); but if anybody wants to go to all 5 of those Devils games in Atlantic City while rocking orange and trying to keep them off of our turf, the 5 game packs are on sale. It's $70 to attend all 5 games, which are:
Sunday 12/5 at 4pm - Albany Devils vs Philadelphia Phantoms
Sunday 12/12 at 4pm - Albany Devils vs Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins
Sunday 1/23 at 4pm - Trenton Devils vs Wheeling Nailers (ECHL)
Friday 2/4 at 7pm - Albany Devils vs Hershey Bears
Sunday 2/27 at 4pm - Albany Devils vs Norfolk Admirals
Tickets for individual the Phantoms/Devils game on the 5th will range from $15 - $25 dollars, and I'll keep you posted for the on-sale date. I'm already gathering a big group of my friends to go to that one, but I'm seriously considering going to the rest.
Flyers center recalls images from harrowing car accident
I wanted to make sure I posted this as soon as I saw it on the front page of the Courier Post this morning.... Briere gave an in-depth interview about his car crash back in June.
Poll: Breaking down the CBA - What's the best way?
I think Travis should get the final say on whether he'd actually want me to work on any of the items in this poll, it's his site; but it seems that I'm getting more summons than ever to provide an interpretation of the CBA when there's confusion. Lately there have been some ideas floating about with ways to either get a hold of me more quickly or make my life easier in this process, and while I don't know whether those ideas are meant as jokes or as serious considerations, maybe they should be explored. Since I'm spending the effort to break it down anyway, I honestly don't mind doing so, and I'm obviously not going anywhere, I thought I'd try to gauge which of those ideas you guys actually think would be worthwhile. So just for arguments' sake, what would you guys actually want to see happen?
Mt Laurel Shoprite Flyers logo display
Sorry for the bad camera phone quality, but the Coca Cola vendor set up this display by the front door of the Shoprite in Mt Laurel, NJ simply by stacking the different Coke products to make the pattern. Major props to the driver who did it!
HBO Broad Street Bullies Documentary: Advance review
Editor's Note: We bumped this up to the front page back on April 14th, the day after the Flyers held a private screening of the new HBO documentary, "Broad Street Bullies." With the documentary premiering on HBO tonight at 10:00 PM ET, we're pushing this up one more time for anybody that missed it.
Many people here have been eagerly awaiting the HBO Documentary that is set to air on May 4th, and I happened to be able to attend tonight's screening at the Wachovia Center. A recap of tonight's events and a preview of what to expect from the documentary are after the jump, so stop reading now if you don't want more info. I'll do my best to minimize any major spoilers that might ruin the fun.
BSH Pickup Game Pictures

Matsumoto won AHL Accuracy competition last night
I may have been the only one of us that watched the AHL Skills Competition last night, but this wasn't mentioned by anybody else, so I figured I'd put it out there.
Jon Matsumoto won the Accuracy competition convincingly, hitting all 4 targets in 5 shots when the next closest competitor took 7 shots to get all 4. Hopefully that might come in handy for the Flyers someday.
For what it's worth, local boy Bobby Sanguinetti (originally from Trenton, NJ) set a new record in the fastest skater competition. I hate to root for a Rangers prospect, but he is from only 45 minutes away and we had no Adirondack skater in the competition at all, so I figured I'd point it out.
Turns out Wisniewski is the actual dirty player...
I didn't see anybody else mention this, but I thought it was worth pointing out. This is the same guy who falsely accused Briere of a dirty hit... now he's the one suspended for a clearly dirty move. I found it amusing.
Here's the video, since it doesn't link from the article.
