If you were at the scrimmage on Saturday I hope you like watching a good swarming defense. The Bronco defense (wearing blue) dominated the offense (wearing white) throughout the game. The final score was Offense 13, Defense 21 which was an expected outcome after the offense reportedly got the better of the defense a couple weeks ago. Before the scrimmage I wrote down a few things to keep an eye on – I’m sure I missed a some things as I scribbled notes but here’s what I took away from the scrimmage.

Posted a link to my post over on Drofdarb Sports explaining the 3 Keys to the game and a player to keep an eye on. Let me know what you think on here or the blog itself!

After 37 days off I can't wait to watch these two teams go at it tonight. Hopefully it's a good one!

This could be a pretty big loss for the Broncos especially with the departure of Young and Pettis and the need to develop our young receivers. Any ideas on who the new receivers coach will be?

One Bronco Nation Under God Is it too early..

to start talking about next years replacements for Jeron Johnson, Winston Venable, Titus Young, & Austin Pettis? In my opinion, these are the four seniors we'll have the most difficult time replacing next season.

SI.com writer Stewart Mandel compares Nebraska's schedule to Boise State's and points out there isn't much of a difference. I'm glad somebody finally brought this up.

BYU goes Independent in Football and to the West Coast Conference in all other sports beginning 2011-12 season.

Is this the beginning of the end for BYU Football?

Andy Staples from Sports Illustrated did a re-ranking of the recruiting classes of 2007 with the clarity of hindsight. I was pleasantly surprised to see where the Broncos were ranked.

Sounds like Wilcox might be headed to Tennessee to be come the new DC for Derek Dooley.. Could be a sad day for Bronco Nation.

One Bronco Nation Under God Scouts Inc - Nevada @ Boise State

Here is Scouts Inc's (ESPN Insider) assessment of the Boise State - Nevada game.

Boise State is given the advantage at: QB, WR, OL, LB, DB, ST, & Coaching.

Nevada is given the advantage at: RB & DL.

As Kevan says, "Join me after the jump to read and discuss Scouts Inc's week 13 preview of Nevada vs Boise State."

One Bronco Nation Under God Iowa's place in the polls.

Iowa has recently launched a PR  campaign to show they're more deserving than Cinciannati, BSU, TCU, Oregon, etc.

Bruce Feldman covered some of this in his blog yesterday:

One Bronco Nation Under God Missouri @ Nevada

I checked to see what the ESPN Friday night game was this week and I was surprised to see Missouri @ Nevada.  I thought this was on Saturday for some reason.  Anyway, let's hope Nevada at least shows up for this one.  I'm hoping the crowd will be enough to keep them in it for awhile... but Nevada has looked TERRIBLE so far this season. Good thing they have a HoF coach and the pre-season WAC offensive player of the year!! Wooooot!!!

One Bronco Nation Under God New Haven is stealing our Blue

Article from Graham Watson, ESPN non-bcs blogger. http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/8185/boise-state-and-new-haven-engage-in-colorful-debate

Boise State is no longer the only school in the country with a blue field.

The University of New Haven, a Division II program that restarted its football program this season after a five-year absence, is also playing on a blue field this season, which is drawing the ire of Boise State.

According to a story in the New Haven Register, Boise State has expressed concern over New Haven’s field being too similar to Boise State’s. However, New Haven athletic director Debbie Chin contends that the fields aren’t the same.

“We have a blue and gold field, which was originally our intent,” Chin told the paper. “Those are our school colors. We don’t have the same colors as Boise State.”

Boise State’s field is blue and orange.

Boise State already is looking to trademark their blue field and New Haven is the only school opposing it.

New Haven’s vice president of finance George Synodi told the newspaper that the two schools are close to finalizing a licensing agreement that would not require New Haven to pay Boise State and Boise State has no intention of pursuing legal action against New Haven.

Attempts to reach Boise State director of trademark licensing and enforcement Rachel Bickerton were unsuccessful, but she issued a statement to the New Haven Register:

“Since 1986, the blue field has been an iconic symbol for Boise State University and Boise. It is recognized near and far as the home of Broncos. We consider the blue turf to be part of our identity, and we place great value on that uniqueness.”

One Bronco Nation Under God Big games this weekend..

There are a few potentially huge game for the Broncos this weekend:

#6 Cal @ Oregon

#8 Boise State @ Bowling Green (obviously)

Fresno State @ #14 Cincinnati

#15 TCU @ Clemson

Texas Tech @ #17 Houston

I'm going to cross my fingers and hope for wins from Oregon (please pick a better uni combo this weekend - last weeks may have been the worst in college football HISTORY), Boise State, Fresno State (yuck - especially after their Oregon like whining), Clemson, and Texas Tech.  This probably wont happen.. but here are my thoughts on the games:

Cal @ Oregon -The only way Oregon has a chance is if Masoli regains his "last 3 games of 08" form Oregon fans are always talking about.  Let's cross our fingers.

Boise State @ Bowling Green - We don't really have to talk about this here.. Clearly Coach Pete just has me buying into his theme of our game each week being the biggest of the season.

Fresno State @ Cincinnati - Can Ryan Matthews repeat his performance from last week?  I hope so.  But realistically I dont think the Fresno D can slow down Cincy's offense.

TCU @ Clemson - One of the hardest places to play in the nation.  I want Clemson to win so it helps our chances this year, but as far as the big picture.. a TCU win helps all the "non-BCS" teams out.

Texas Tech @ Houston - I think Houston has a chance here.. Tech just played a big game last week against Texas, but they did play pretty well in the loss.  Tech might have a let down, but because Houston is ranked, Tech will probably be ready.  Same thing as the TCU game as far as.. Houston loss helps us this year, Houstin win helps "non-BCS" as a whole and in the long run..

What are your thoughts on these games?

One Bronco Nation Under God Public Enemy #1

So Graham Watson had her weekly chat today... I spammed her with questions like:

-How's the WAC pre-season player of the year - Colin Kaepernick - doing this year?  I thought he improved on his passing (especially accuracy) in the offseason?  Didnt it take them 7 qtrs to score their first TD this year?

-What happened to mighty Nevada and that "high powered offense"!?

and

-Why do you hate Boise State?

Haha and then she picked my question:

Bradford (Boise, ID)

Why do you hate Boise State?

Graham Watson   (1:43 PM)

Why do you think I hate Boise State? I've said many time they're incredibly talented and have outstanding coaching. They never get ahead of themselves and they have a killer instinct a lot of other teams in the five conferences lack. I've also said Kellen Moore is one of the coolest quarterbacks I've ever seen (cool meaning calm under pressure, not Fonzie cool). They just have a terrible schedule this season. So, if by stating the fact that they have a terrible schedule means that I hate them, then yes, yes I'm guilty.

One Bronco Nation Under God Kyle Wilson metioned in Bruce Feldman's Blog

Five inside the game  battles to keep an eye on via NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah:

Boise St CB Kyle Wilson is an undersized player with speed, toughness and return ability. He will get a chance to compete against three underrated Fresno State WR's this Friday night. He had five interceptions as a junior but has yet to record a pick through the first two weeks of the season. Traditionally, scouts love to attend these Thursday/Friday games and it is always a huge draft boost when top prospects put together impressive performances.

One Bronco Nation Under God A game winning/tying field goal..

If the Fresno game (or any game this year) comes down to a game winning/tying field goal for the Broncos, do you have confidence in Brotz to make the kick!?

Anything under 30-35 yards I'd feel like he has a decent chance, but anything over 35 and I probably wont be able to watch..  Is it just the left hash (again), or is he just struggling in general.

Kickers remind me of goalies.. they're all quirky, either really hot or really cold, and when things go bad - the wheels fall off.  I hope this hasnt happened to Brotz. I feel like we're going to need him at some point this year...
