PtR cameo in "NBA on Twitter" Article

Jack Nicolaus of TheGoodPoint.com wrote a terrific--and very funny--article about an evening spent following the NBA on Twitter, and our feed (I think Josh was running it that night) plays a key role. Enjoy.

DTOUR 3/29-30: Pre-Celtics Hullabaloo, Bronx Zoo Cobra (with Poll!)

My wife's due date is the 30th. That's not what I wanted to talk about--just kind of throwing it out there so you know why I might be disappearing for a while. I have a senseless anecdote for you...

Point Forward: Spurs tightening up for Postseason?

7
The Spurs are famous for using the latter stages of the season — especially their famed Rodeo Road Trip — to clean up their defense as the playoffs approach. This recent stretch of solid perimeter defense could be proof we are seeing the same thing again, which would be bad news for the rest of the Western Conference. Or...

As FakeCoachPop says, "Got to respect any player that still wears Brut."

Kobe needs Gasol to be the Black Swan

2
Now here's something terrific: Following the Lakers' 109–96 loss to the Celtics on Sunday, Kobe Bryant reportedly approached teammate Pau Gasol and asked him to play harder, borrowing a pep talk from one of this year's Best Picture nominees. Kobe tells ESPN: "When I'm out there being aggressive and doing my thing, he needs to follow suit and just be just as aggressive which is hard for him because it's kind of against his nature. But I think tonight was a good step ... Even when he was in Memphis and he was the go-to guy, he was always very nice. Very white swan. I need him to be black swan." Gasol, a forward, was filling in as center on Sunday for an injured Andrew Bynum (who we guess would be the Lakers' Winona Ryder, to keep this metaphor going). Anyway, Kobe slipped an Ecstasy tablet into Gasol's water bottle, then told him to go home and touch himself. From NY Mag, Via ESPN.

WhatIfSports: Spurs vs. Spurs

Nifty comparison to/breakdown of the Spurs' championship squads. As we already know, this could be the best team since the '02-'03 season.

Ted Williams, Homeless man with the Golden Voice, offered job by Cavaliers

3

I could just barely make it basketball-related, but I've been totally obsessed with this guy's story for the past couple of days. He's been given an unbelievable second chance at life, and the Cavs are even offering him a HOUSE. I wonder if it was Lebron's.

E-N: Could Budenholzer end up in Charlotte?

4

Probably not (Pop shouldn't have any trouble convincing him that he doesn't want to work for Jordan), but it does make you think about the post-Popovich wasteland phantasmagoria: is Mike truly the heir apparent, and, if so, how much do you pay him to keep him as an assistant until Tony and Manu retire?

A Spur finally makes NBA's "Big Head" campaign, just in time for the holidays. Look for Tim "reading" to Charlotte's Gerald Wallace at the 9-second mark.

Early All-Star Returns: Manu 3rd in Guards

COME ON, PEOPLE! WE CAN OVERTAKE CHRIS PAUL!!! Oh, by the way, Tim and Tony are 5th and 9th in their respective categories. And Yao is due for his 498,307th consecutive "start."

More Fun with Power Rankings: SI ranks Spurs #1

Maybe somebody (not me, Lord no, not me) should do a Power Ranking compilation as a weekly feature? The more we win, the more fun these are to read. Anyway, Britt Robson has finally realized that we're good.

Is this the dawning of a new Spurs team? (With Poll!)

I don't usually write FanPosts, because I usually have nothing to say.  But these past few games have got me thinking... are these newfangled, run-and-gun, hot-shooting Spurs here to stay? It may...

ESPN's NBA Preview, as designed by Marvel Comics. I think the design for the Spurs is really cool, except that 1) the players are totally unrecognizable, and 2) it implies that the Spurs are good for little more than being remembered fondly... and who at ESPN does that? However, to say that we're "solid as a rock" fits right in with, you know, our whole mantra. See the covers for all of the other teams here. I like the the Thunder and Cavs ones the best, but that's from a geek standpoint, not a basketball one. :)

Carlos Boozer: Klutz, or FILTHY LIAR?!

(Musical Sting!) Either way, he's out until early December. Bulls investigating his claims that he tripped over a gym bag while answering the door IN TOTAL DARKNESS.

Harvey: Parker's Anxiety a Spurs Advantage

SI linked this under an inflammatory "SPURS LOOKING TO SHOP PARKER?!?" headline, but really all this says is that the Spurs will keep their options open. Which we knew. Still, an insightful read that lays everything out there.

Slightly OT: ESPN Insider Deal (NOW EXPIRED)

BR: Spurs #1 Backcourt in the NBA

Look! Respect! Seriously, though, it's impossible to argue against a healthy Parker+Ginobili, but when you throw Hill and Anderson in there it just gets ridiculous.

Lebron: The Musical!

A terrific read all the way down, but the gag at the very end will have Spurs fans giggling the hardest.

Hamilton Took Wed. Off to Rest Hamstring

"Hamilton said late Wednesday that his hamstring had tightened up from running the bases so much lately. In 20 June games, Hamilton has 39 hits, and he's only been able to casually trot on eight of them." Sees "no problems" moving forward...

Hardwood Paroxysm: The Welcome Embrace of Ancient Enemies

6

Another nice read. My favorite quotes: "San Antonio has proven it can beat Phoenix at the bottom of the ocean if it has to." "...George Hill will have a good series and be surprising and knock down shots you don’t expect him to because that’s what Spurs draft picks do. Richard Jefferson will struggle but have one good game that will help seal a win...Manu Ginobili just continues tearing it up...Duncan, aging though he may be, will still get the turnaround to fall...while Bonner will magically find himself wide open after a bizarre rebound caroms directly to McDyess who will flip it to him and then Amar’e will be blamed for bad defense while he’s pursuing where the rebound in almost any situation would have gone. We know these things because we have seen these things." "We are in the Spurs’ territory. And there is no water, nor relief, nor hope here. Just dust and bone and championships."
