Is Brian Urlacher the one Bear the team could least afford to lose?
The Urlacher injury has made headlines around the NFL, but after taking a step back I think you can make the case that there are several other positions where a major injury would hurt the team much more. I'm not downplayng the injury, but the Bears are pretty deep at linebacker which is not the case at several other key positions. Here's my list of the top 5 Bears who need to stay healthy.
Here's my rundown of the players the Bears can least afford to lose.
1) Jay Cutler, QB.
Yes, his first half debut was horrible, but he plays the most important position and the dropoff is considerable.
2) Lance Briggs, LB
Briggs is the best player on defense and one of the top linebackers in the NFL. He has surpassed Urlacher on the field and will hopefully take over the leadership role of #54. The deep LB corp would suddenly be very shallow.
3) Matt Forte, RB
He will be leaned on heavily to once again carry a large load for the offense. Didn't do much in the first game and we saw how that turned out. The dropoff is huge.
4) Charles Tillman CB
Tillman brings a toughness and takeaway mentality to a thin secondary. A healthy Tillman/Bowman pairing might even make this a team strength (fingers are crossed).
5) Robbie Gould, PK
Mister automatic. For a team that will play a lot of close games his skills are crucial. Kicking at Soldier Field in November, December and January takes a guy with big ones and Robbie's are brass. I shudder to think of having to depend on a dancing Grammatika or someone of the like.
I know a lot of people will say Olin or Tommie or Hester should be on the list, but keeping these 5 healthy are the keys to the season.
This is my first FanPost so let me have it.
