I doubt it. But a Trib reporter says it might happen here. The Cubbies want another left-handed bat, and they are apparently desperate enough to think that Jimmy might be the answer. The only thing worse than Jimmy's ugly demise in the ugly Padres uniforms would be his inexplicable resurrection for the Small Bears. I'd hate to have to root for him to fail miserable, but I'd hate more to see the drunks in Wrigley's bleachers happily claim him for their own.

Jocketty Reds' New GM

ESPN is reporting that the Reds have fired GM Wayne Krivsky and replaced him with Walt Jocketty. Odd timing, perhaps, but most people have said that Krivsky's days were numbered since Jocketty was hired as a "special consultant" in January. I doubt that Jocketty's best days as a GM are ahead of him, but he's no doubt better than Krivsky. Krivsky punished the Reds with several wasteful contracts, not to mention that big, misguided trade with the Nationals.

Justin in Arizona (jinaz), who has the best statistically serious blog on the Reds, has recently done a terrific study of the Cincinnati lineup with some very surprising results (e.g., it is not death to have Corey Patterson and his minuscule OBP leading off). Since some of these surprising results might generalize, Redbird fans who are speculating about what lineup would be best for St. Louis--and it looks as though that is everyone here at VEB--might want to check it out.

(This is the first post by someone who has admired VEB just about every day for more than two years. So I want to say thanks to lboros and the thoughtful regular contributors.)
