Skinner, Bissonnette, Stamkos, Seguin and...Intercourse Puns?
Found this link retweeted by Paul Bissonnette. For those of you who don't know, Bissonnette is always questionable conduct and humor on twitter, and this video is the perfect example. Bissonnette and a few other players (including Jeff Skinner) are asked to "rate their 'performance' off the ice" in categories such as speed, endurance, size, and stick handling. For those of you that love awkward smiling and laughing Jeff Skinner, or those that love slightly crude humor, check it out.
EA Sim Puts 'Canes at #1 in East
So like I posted earlier, NHL.com writers recently "re-drafted" the entire player base of the NHL. After the draft I posted the link to the draft and there weren't many responses (I think partially because my title made it sound like fantasy hockey.) Hopefully this title sucked in some more readers.
Draft results can be seen here: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=585410
After the draft the NHL "experts" predicted how they thought the teams lined up on paper. Canes were picked last, and all the league standing predictions can be seen here http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=587058
The final stage of this project was for EA sports to input the rosters into the new NHL 2012 game and simulate a full 82 game season to see how it would shake out, and eventually to predict the playoffs as well (last year EA was 13/15 in playoff season predictions via simulation).
So, EA just finished simulating the regular season and your own (slightly different) Carolina Hurricanes took the top spot in the East behind Steven Stamkos' 56 Goal 58 Assist performance.
Standings and more stats can be seen here: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=587506
EA will simulate the playoffs tomorrow. Root for your 'Canes!
NHL.com Fantasy Draft?
15 writers from NHL.com recently undertook the task of starting all 30 NHL teams from scratch with a new draft in which all players are eligible at their current salary cap hit. Teams must remain below the salary cap, and draft order was decided by the most recent NHL entry draft order.
Without any further ado, the results. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=585410
Displaced Fan
Well, after being a season ticket holder from the time I was 10 until I was 18, and then living at ECU the next 3 years I am proud to say that I almost never missed a 'Canes game. However, times have changed, and I am now attending the University of Florida, and right now I only have a basic cable package.
I was hoping somebody could provide some guidance as for what the best way for me to watch the 'Canes play might be. NHL Gamecenter Live (on PC) NHL Center Ice ( PC) or just finding streaming sites online for free.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
All Star Game Voting Underway
Like the title states, the ballots for the 2011 All Star Game have been released and voting begun today (November 15th).
Goal Impact Analysis
So I've been thinking about doing this for a while now, and figured I should come here for some ideas and help. I want to do an analysis of the actual impact of every goal scored by the canes this year. I first got this idea reading a few things on here over the summer where some people believed that Staal never scores "important" goals, and bunches up his goals during blowouts and things of that nature.
I hope that by the end of the season, this will provide some level of insight, or at least some interesting knowledge about who scores for the canes in clutch situations.
