Arkansas game next season

Dick's level of comfort will be key, because if Petrino is to work the same magic as he did at Louisville -- where the Cardinals improved from 97th in total offense to fifth in his first season -- it will be squarely on Dick's shoulders.

Petrino may be a total swine (oh snap! I didn’t just type that) – but he is one heck of a coach. Even Joey Harrington had moments in Atlanta, while actually resembling a QB.

This Arkansas game will be an incredible test for a new Texas D Coordinator and a bunch of newbies in the secondary.

Casey Dick is slightly underrated as a QB. For all the talk of Matt Stafford and Tim Tebow, if I had to guess which SEC QB will post the best numbers next season my money would be on Casey Dick.

Should be quite a game and if Texas wins, a boost to their BCS potential. Arkansas will probably be in the SEC west mix.

Durant vs. Kobe on TNT 10:00 ET

We finally get to see Durant on national television tonight. I'll probably stay up to watch most of it. Why not? It's Thursday. Only one more day to go.

I guess Kobe is back at practice today after nursing his sore ego for a few days. It will be interesting to see if he plays.

The game is the only Sonics exhibition on TV and will be carried nationally by TNT. I asked Durant if the game carries any more significance because he knows his friends and family in Washington D.C., and Austin, Texas will be watching. "My teammates down in Texas said they would be watching the game, but that's about it," he said

I'm a card carrying Kobe hatta myself. My hatred for all things Kobe and Shaq is one of those great debates b/w my basketball watching friends. I don't understand how anyone can like either guy. Shaq has grown on me a little, but I still don't like his brand of basketball.

Why do I care? Well, because Kobe is one of a select group of players who are almost universally hated in the NBA. With the exception of those twits who live in the 206 and own a Kobe-8 jersey, most folks around these parts would sooner wax their unmentionables before donning a Laker jersey, let alone a Kobe one.
And, being that this is the 41st season in team history (and, to be accurate, the true 40th anniversary of the team), I thought we could reminisce about the top ten most hated players in team history. I've only been a fan of the team since the early 80s, so please add your suggestions for the 60s and 70s in the comments. In reverse order:

The last time it happened we fired the coach.

This will without a doubt be Mack's worst team, so you better brace yourself for a bumpy ride.

If Mack can get 9 wins out of this team he deserves a raise (and probably needs to reshuffle the coaching staff).

Vince Young on 60 Minutes

It looks like it will be this Sunday's edition, but you may want to check. Usually on at 6:00, but will probably be running late with football games still on.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young opens up to "60 Minutes" on Sunday. He is still unhappy about losing the 2005 Heisman Trophy to Reggie Bush.
Does Young think he is better than Bush?
"I always feel like I'm better. Always," Young tells correspondent Scott Pelley.
Young describes himself as "angry" about losing the Heisman. "And I wanted to show the world that I was the real Heisman Trophy winner. But on paper, Reggie Bush is the Heisman Trophy winner. [I am] not taking nothing from him, he knows he's a phenomenal athlete."
Because of a football overrun, "60 Minutes" will air from 7:30 to 9 p.m. this Sunday on WKMG-Channel 6.
The 90-minute edition of "60 Minutes" also will feature a two-part Steve Kroft interview with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and a Katie Couric report on bipolar diagnoses in young children.
As for Young, the quarterback tells "60 Minutes" that he is determined to help his team make the playoffs this season. "I'm not trying to predict it right now, but how we're looking right now, we have a big shot," Young says.

The thing that has always appealed to me about Coltrane is that his music hits all the important places: the head, the heart, and the soul. If we’re all lucky, we’ll be able to say the same thing about Kevin Durant’s game at the next level. The physical resemblance that strikes me between these two men is primarily in the eyes - a strong and direct gaze, and a confidence that says "I am about to righteously blow your mind".

If I was coach for a day

3 things/changes I would implement before the start of the season.

This is kind of like Bruce Almighty w/ the power of god, but you wield the power of Mack Brown instead.
Who knows, maybe some of these will actually happen and I'll look like a sage.

Changes that need to be made.

I'll start with the most controversial. Move Sergio Kindle to RB. It seems like anyone that has gotten a peak of Kindle, 3rd hand comments from coaches -- and what we've seen so far would indicate Kindle may not pan out at LB. Sure this a premature knee jerk reaction, but its the offseason. As head coach I would wait and see if he shows any progress through the summer, maybe even the first game and then pull the plug on his defensive days if things aren't clicking. It isn't like Sergio is an LB or die type player. He was an all-world RB in high school. We caught a glimpse of his potential in the Alamo Bowl and I like to see what he can do. RB is the easiest position to learn and transition. Wasting another sub par performance year at LB would be a shame.

Mix up the secondary with young and old. It never ceases to amaze me how Mack can reload the DBs by slapping another round in the lineup each season. I go in to every season thinking, "so and so will never be as good as the last guy." Wrong. Akina deserves all the credit, but Mack and his staff do an excellent job of developing DBs in to primetime players.

For years I ragged on my favorite whipping boys Huff and C. Griffin and look how they turned out. Hell, Griffin may even be the best D player on his new NFL team. Who saw Ross as a future Thorpe winner in 05? Not me.
So I say give the older guys a chance, because recent history proves they are going to be solid -- but mix in the young guys at safety and sub at corner.

Make GD pass the ball to JC more. Not just screens either, but hit him on routes and out in space. Is it me or did he look like the fastest player on the team with that wheel route against Iowa? Why did GD wait an entire season for that? He should still run the ball, but increase his touches with more activity in the passing game. If GD refuses, I will fire him......or maybe not.
