2009 NFL Mock Draft

A crazy, speculative look at what may happen next year in Radio City Music Hall.

1. Atlanta Falcons - Malcom Jenkins,CB,Ohio St.

Hear me out on this one. The Falcons lost DeAngelo Hall, and failed to replace him in the 2008 draft. So they replace him in 2009 with a proven, phenomenal player.

2. Miami Dolphins - James Laurinaitus,LB,Ohio St.

Parcells loves big, physical LB's and Laurinaitus is one of them. 2 Ohio St. players as the top 2 picks is odd, but it is plausible.

3. Kansas City Chiefs - Matt Stafford,QB,Georgia

If the Chiefs have this high pick, then they'll take a QB because Brodie Croyle hasn't worked out for them. Stafford has the most NFL potential of any QB.

4. Detroit Lions - Micheal Oher,OT,Ole Miss

This is a tough pick for Detroit, because either they need protection for the QB or a new QB. But Kitna is fair, and they need a big LT to help their fledgling running game. Oher is NFL ready. Last year's first round pick, Gosder Cherilus, would be moved to RT and they would have a great, young line.

5. St. Louis Rams - Andre Smith,OT,Alabama

The Rams need a successor to Orlando Pace, and Smith is considered #1 or 2 in most rankings. He'll be a solid force for many years.

6. Philidelphia Eagles(thru Panthers) - Micheal Johnson,DE,Georgia Tech

The Panthers would have this pick, but thanks to a trade to get Jeff Otah, the Eagles will reap the rewards of the Panthers' miserable season by selecting the pass rusher Johnson, who will replace Jevon Kearse now that he's in Tennessee again.

7. San Fransisco 49ers - Micheal Crabtree,WR,Texas Tech

Crabtree is amazing, and, seeing as the 49ers have no #1 recievers, he would be a no brainer if he goes this far.

8. New York Jets - Chris Wells,RB,Ohio St.

As a Michigan fan, it's terrible seeing all the Ohio State talent. But the Jets need a RB of the future, and, if they don't like Moreno, then Wells is the next in line.

9. Oakland Raiders - Tyson Jackson,DE,LSU

The Raiders have had 2 offense oriented drafts, and now they take a great pass rusher to stop Jay Cutler and Phillip Rivers and keep LT in the backfield.

10. Chicago Bears - Curtis Painter,QB,Purdue

The Bears need a QB, bad. And I don't like Tebow. He gets himself beat up by running the ball too much. He won't last long against elite NFL defenses. Painter is a great pocket passer.

11. Baltimore Ravens - Vontae Davis,CB,Illinois

Davis is a shutdown corner, and Baltimore has two aging corners. Davis can be a franchise DB.

12.Tennessee Titans - Darrius Heyward-Bey,WR,Maryland

Percy Harvin is here, but the Titans already have a triple running/recieving/returner threat in last year's #1 pick Chris Johnson. Heyward-Bey is a taller, more physical reciever that also has good speed. He'll be a great target for Vince Young.

13. Buffalo Bills - Rey Maualuga,LB,USC

Takeo Spikes is gone. The Bills need a new defensive threat lurking behind the line. Maualuga is a great player, with good speed and great tackling.

14. Arizona Cardinals - Knowshon Moreno,RB,Georgia

Edge isn't getting any younger, and the Cards don't have a legit NFL ready backup. Until now.

15. Cinncinati Bengals - Sen'Derrick Marks,DT,Auburn

The Bengals lost their best DT in free agency, and failed to get a good one in the draft. This year they take the best availible.

16. Denver Broncos - Lesean McCoy,RB,Pittsburg

The Broncos have no franchise back, and if McCoy falls this far then it'll take less than 2 minutes for this pick to come in.

17. Washington Redskins - Greg Hardy,DE,Ole Miss

The Redskins have Jason Taylor, but he isn't getting any younger. They also have two DEs that were taken out in camp with severe injuries. Besides, they have one pressure threat. This makes 2.

18. Houston Texans - Mike Mickens,CB,Cinncinnati

In a division with Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, you need a shutdown corner. Mickens can come in and play either the nickel back or even #2 corner until he's needed at #1.

19. Minnesota Vikings - Tim Tebow,QB,Florida

If the Vikings don't get Farve, they need a first round QB. Period. No matter who it is.

20. Philidelphia Eagles - Travis Beckum,TE,Wisconsin

The Eagles have an electric downfield threat in Desean Jackson, and they have a reliable target in Kevin Curtis. But they don't have a great set of hands at the TE position. Beckum is the best out there.

21. Cleveland Browns - Victor"Macho"Harris,CB,Virginia Tech

Corners are deep in this draft, but Harris is a great player who can help defend all the gunslingers that the Browns have to play.

22. New Orleans Saints - Percy Harvin,WR,Florida

The Saints have a redzone target in Shockey and a good reciever in Colston. But they need a speed demon to pick up huge yardage at once. Harvin is the answer.

23.New York Giants - Ricky Sapp,DE,Clemson

Justin Tuck is okay, but the Giants need to replace Micheal Strahan with young talent.

24. Green Bay Packers - William Moore,FS,Missouri

Moore can make plays all over the field, and Green Bay needs secondary help.

25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Brian Robiskie,WR,Ohio St.

The Bucs need more youth in their recieving corps, and Robiskie has played the best of them. He can take on NFL talent.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars - Jeremy Maclin,WR,Missouri

With all the reciever problems in Jacksonville, they need a young burner to come in and immidiately make an impact.

27. Pittsburg Steelers - Duke Robinson,OG,Oklahoma

The Steelers lost Alan Faneca, and now they need to replace him. Robinson is a great blocker.

28. Indianapolis Colts - Brian Cushing,LB,Ohio St.

They lost Cato June, and they don't have any complete package LB's. Cushing can bring the help they need.

29. San Diego Chargers - Myron Rolle,SS,Florida St.

This continues the trend of DBs for SD, but Rolle is too good to pass up here.

30. Dallas Cowboys - Demetrius Byrd,WR,LSU

Byrd is a great reciever with amazing hands. The Cowboys have aging recievers that they will need to replace. It'll help Byrd to learn under TO.

31. New England Patriots - D.J. Moore,CB,Vanderbilt

The Pats have CB troubles, and the people they brought in to replace them aren't great. Moore can come in and help immidiately. Maybe not a franchise corner, but an impact player.

32. Seattle Seahawks - James Davis,RB,Clemson

After a surprise Super Bowl win, Seattle will take a HB of the future in Davis, who can carry the NFL load.

2nd Round

33. Atlanta Falcons - C.J. Spiller,RB,Clemson

Micheal Turner is not the answer, but with a compliment back like Spiller, the running game in Atlanta will finally show some promise.

34. Miami Dolphins - Javon Ringer,RB,Michigan St.

A 3rd down back or compliment back to Ronnie Brown. He also adds depth.

35. Kansas City Chiefs - Brandon Spikes,LB,Florida

A great combo LB. Spikes may be a small sleeper. He'll have a great career.

36. Detroit Lions - Nate Davis,QB,Ball State

The Lions need a backup that can play if (when) John Kitna fails to play up to standards. Davis is a great pocket passer that could get the ball to Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson.

37. St. Louis Rams - Taylor Mays,SS,USC

The Rams need secondary. Mays is a freakishly athletic safety that can make plays all over the field.

38. Carolina Panthers - Sam Bradford,QB,Oklahoma

Bradford had an amazing year last year, and if he can do it again, this is a great steal because Carolina will be picking up their QB of the future.

39. San Fransisco 49ers - Greg Middleton,DE,Indiana

The 9ers don't put much pressure on the QB. Middleton is a sack machine.

40. New York Jets - Ciron Black,OT,LSU

Black has first round talent. The Jets need another OT to help anchor their offensive line. Black can come in and start.

41. Oakland Raiders - Phil Loadholt,OT,Oklahoma

The Raiders, after having Robert Gallery bust, need a solid, "safe pick" lineman. Loadholt is the anchor in OK and can be in Oakland.

42. Chicago Bears - Herman Johnson,OG,LSU

The Bears need a LG. Johnson is the best availible. Enough said.

43. Baltimore Ravens - George Selvie,DE,USF

Selvie is a great player. Not franchise caliber, but he'll get sacks.

44. Tennessee Titans - Mike Thomas,WR,Arizona

I couldn't really find a fit besides another reciever for Tennessee. Now they have Crumpler,Hayward-Bey and Thomas catching Vince Young's passes.

45. Buffalo Bills - Cullen Harper,QB,Clemson

Harper is a great QB, no question. (This coming from a Clemson hater.) If Edwards fails and J.P. Losman keeps up old form, the Bills will be in the hunt for a new QB.

46. Arizona Cardinals - Fili Moata,DT,USC

Moata is a run stopper on a great defense. The Cardinals need someone to stop Jackson and Gore. (Sorry about this, didn't realize I had forgotten him. He'll be 1st round I just don't want to change this whole thing.)

47. Cinncinnati Bengals - Jermaine Gresham,TE,Oklahoma

Gresham is a great pass catcher, and Carson Palmer needs a reliable, consistent target over the middle.

48. Denver Broncos - Nate Allen,FS,USF

In a division with Antonio Gates, LT, Tony Gonzalez, Dwayne Bowe, and Chris Chambers, the Broncos need a safety big time.

49. Washington Redskins - Max Unger,OT,Oregon

The Redskins could use a great LT to block all the crazy good defensive players in their division.

50. Houston Texans - Marlon Lucky,RB,Nebraska

Lucky is a dual threat RB, who can catch as well as rush. The Texans have no solid backs. Lucky can bring some more offense to Houston.

51. Minnesota Vikings - Aaron Kelly,WR,Clemson

The Vikings have Rice,Berrian, and no one else. Kelly can bring a great slot guy or even #2 reciever there.

52. Philidelphia Eagles - Alex Boone,OT,Ohio St.

Boone is big tackle. He can keep people out of the backfield all day. Philly needs someone like him.

53. Cleveland Browns - Mike Goodson,RB,Texas A&M

Goodson is someone I don't know much about. But the Browns need a successor to Jamal Lewis.

54. New Orleans Saints - DeAndre Wright,CB,New Mexico

Wright is another player I don't really know. But he seems to be a great playmaker, and the Saints need that in their secondary.

55. New York Giants - Marcus Freeman,LB,Ohio St.

The Giants need a new addition to LB corps, who weren't the greatest last year and probably won't be this year.

56. Green Bay Packers - Brandon Pettigrew,TE,Oklahoma State

The Packers don't have Bubba Franks anymore, so they draft his replacement here.

57. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Dan LeFevour,QB,Central Michigan

Dan is a dual threat QB. He is great value here and will go on to have a good career.

58. Jacksonville Jaguars - Colt McCoy,QB,Texas

David Garrad is getting any younger, and Colt McCoy is pretty good. He isn't a scrambler, but he can throw.

59. Pittsburg Steelers - London Fryer,CB,Western Michigan

Fryer will add depth to the Steeler's secondary.

60. Indianapolis Colts - Al Woods,DT,LSU

The Colts need someone to pair alongside Dwight Freeney.

61. San Diego Chargers - Barry Church,SS,Toledo

More secondary.

62. Dallas Cowboys - Sergio Render,OG,Virginia Tech

With Marion Barber as the starter, the Cowboys need good inside blocking.

63. New England Patriots - Sean Weatherspoon,LB,Missouri

The Pats are always looking for more LB's.

64. Seattle Seahawks - Derek Pegues,FS,Mississippi St.

Seattle needs some secondary help. Pegues can make plays.
