Bleeding Green Nation just started thinking

If...and i know it is a big if....the Giants lose Monday night, and we beat them next week, wouldnt we be Division champs next week? Worst that could happen is both teams be 10-6 with us beatn them 2 times for the tiebreaker. It would certainly be nice to not have to worry about the last 2 weeks but it would also be nice to have a shot at a bye. I think Green Bay/Chicago are gonna be 10-6 division winner. Saints and Falcons battle it out and both end up 13-3. No idea if that happens about their tiebreaker. 11-5 could get us a bye week.

Bleeding Green Nation Good and Bad observations

The good.

Djax is really really good.

Shady McCoy is really really good

Mike Vick doesn't give up.

Antonio Dixon is a heck of a football player. Haven't seen run stuffing push like his since a certain #99 at DT

Jason Peters is playing very well. Book his plane ticket to Hawaii.

I think Nate Allen at FS has really shored up a glaring weakness. The Cowboys had no big plays from the WR core and Mikell had a good game. He may not be a Big time playmake yet, but I think Mikell trusts that Allen will be in the right spot/coverage and can go back to freelancing a little bit.

Special teams coverage on kicks/punts is better. Colt Anderson that good? Really?

The Bad

Ernie Sims is just dreadful at times....like tonight

Jorrick Calvin should be cut...just for the effect

We need another guard. The left side of our O line is playing lights out, Dunlap wasn't too bad, but whatever RG they put in just isn't a starter in the NFL

Still can't cover a TE.

Other than Trent Cole we have little to no Pass Rush without blitzing at least 2 players. That needs to get fixed...like soon

These injuries are mounting. Looks like Bradley will be out for a while..maybe till Playoffs, maybe on IR. What do we do with LB's? Im thinking Fokou moves to MLB and Akeem Jordan is back at OLB. Im really hoping NOT to see the return of OMAR "OLE" Gaither.

Monday’s night’s 35-14 loss in San Diego will go down as one of the uglier games of safety Brian Dawkins‘ illustruous career.

He missed a tackle that led to a long Patrick Crayton touchdown, and couldn’t handle running back Darren Sproles when he caught a pass and took it the distance. After the game, Dawkins remained in the locker room long after most of his teammates had departed.
"I’m going to continue to fight. That’s just what I do," Dawkins told Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post. "It’s just a frustrating thing when you’re out there on the field and you start thinking too much."

Bleeding Green Nation just noticed this as i was lookn at schedule

The Eagles will have 6 straight weeks of National TV games

2 weeks ago we were the 4:15 game vs Indy, then the Monday night football game vs the Redskins, Sunday night versus the Gnats, next week we are the 4:15 game again versus Chicago, then it is Thursday night football versus the Texans, then Sunday Night game versus the Cowboys. The week after that we play the New Jersey Gnats again in East Rutherford which is a 1pm game. Wouldn't be surprised to see that game moved too.  Im sure it has happened but that is a lot of exposure over the next few weeks. Considering 4 of the 6 are the only game on at that time (Thurs-Sunday-Monday night games) I guess the league knew better than us fans we would be better than expected.

Bleeding Green Nation Asante was too gassed to play corner on the last play

I was listening to 610WIP this evening and they were talking about an interesting story Asante Samuel and Quintin Mikell told. Apparently after Manning went deep like 2 or 3 times in a row, Asante went up to Mikell and said he was too gassed to play corner on the next play. Mikell stepped in and played Corner and Samuel played safety over the top. They think this actually confused Manning a little and probably contributed to the pick.

Actually got me thinking with Samuel's instinctive abilities, this would not be a bad thing to use future plays where the opponents need a long pass completion.

Chris Collingsworth said on Last Night's Packers/Cowboys game he can not remember the last time the Dallas Cowboys got humiliated and Embarrassed. Funny I can remember. It was December 2008 and they didn't show up for a game that meant Playoffs or go home. They quit and got humiliated and embarrassed that night too. They allowed one less point, but scored one less too. 44-6

Bleeding Green Nation Just watched the DVR recording of the game...a few things i saw

The first thing that really jumped out is how much push Antonio Dixon gets on just about every play. I know he had at least one sack in the game, but he was causing hell on those TEN Guards and Center. I bet on nearly every play he gets 2-3 yds of push right away. This was much more noticeable when watching a game you already saw and don't have to watch the end result of the play.

King Dunlap really didn't do too bad. I thought this after the game, but while watching the recording i watched him a lot as I did all the OL, sometimes rewinding to watch each OL individually . Sure the Eagles gave him help on some downs, but most of the time when he was 1 on 1, he held his own. In fact he had his guy on the ground probably more than any other Eagles OL.

Max Jean gilles...well he sucks, even worse when you watch his play individually.

Winston Justice is becoming a pretty good Tackle, RT at least. Very reliable

LeSean McCoy just looks great. He is so shifty and really makes plays turn into something when he should only gain next to nothing. Bwest had a certain power to his game that Shady doesn't, but Shady has a little poor man's Barry Sanders in him. I would still like him to get first downs sometimes, rather than stop after a 9yd gain and cut inside only to be stopped 1/2 yd short of the first down. I am feeling more comfortable every week now with him as our RB of the future, his backups are another story, so Shady don't get hurt. Please. He is getting better at blocking too. I think Duce Staley might be helping out there.

Not like these two are revelations to anyone who has a brain...but....

We need another pass rusher or we are gonna have to blitz even more.

We need to use our #1 pick next year on a corner. I think we can find OL in rds 2-4 who might be able to play. But good corners are usually top picks

Bleeding Green Nation Whats the Deal with Brandon Graham?

I know he got hurt and has an "Illness" according to the Eagles injury report. But where has he been? Parker looks to have won the starting job back. I certainly hope he finds the spark again. This team so desperately needs another good 4 down lineman. It bugs me that other teams seem to find them with ease with either a ho-hum free agent acquisition or a 5th round pick that somehow steps up

Bleeding Green Nation Eagles/NFL Books I recommend and don't

Just came back from Punta Cana Dom Republic where i got Married and honeymooned for 12 days. I am a big reader so I took 6 books with me, 2 on football, 2 on golf, and 2 on American History.

The two football books (Im only going to review the football books here) were Bury Me in my Jersey by Tom McAllister and The Draft: A year inside the NFL's Search for Talent by Pete Williams.

Ill start with Bury Me in My Jersey. A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. It was the last i read and was downright bad. I thought it was gonna be about how a guy got his love of football from his family. Mostly it was about the author, and quite frankly what an ass he acted like all the time. I thought the book had no direction and jumped all over the place. The author made himself easy to dislike in the book. Maybe Im off base as I am no English major or creative writing expert and that was the intent, but quite frankly it wasn't very entertaining and i found myself wanting the book to end. The book was so bad i left it in a trash can in a hotel in Punta Cana after reading rather than subject another Eagles fan to it.

The second book I read The Draft: A year inside the NFL's Search for Talent by Pete Williams was awesome if you are the type who loves to know how everything works with the NFL. It covered how Agents get college players to sign, NFL scouts start looking at college players, how teams rate players. It had in depth coverage of the Atlanta falcons and Rich McKay and the way they run personnel during a season. This was a focus on the 2005 NFL Draft which meant the book was written the year they lost to the Eagles in the NFC Championship game and how they were trying to rate their team and prepare so it had a little bit of Eagles side to it.

It covers how some of the teams rate the players in the draft including for character. It has a chapter called  workout warriors and I knew what was coming. It went in to detail about the first players to start going through Combine specific training (there were just a handfull) and how "it all changed in 1995 by an obscure Lineman from Boston College" (oh jeez...frickin Mamula). I also found another interesting piece that infuriated me. John Harris the Eagles #1 pick in 1997 was trained for the Combine by the same guru as Mamula. The book talks about how the Eagles biggest blunder wasn't Mamula but Jon Harris and how they fooled the Eagles again with the Combine results. I had to go for a walk on the beach after that chapter as I was so mad at that Idiot Ray Rhodes after that. I defintely recommend this book. I would even offer it up for anybody but it was a paperback and I ruined it with wet hands as i read it in the pool and hottub a lot. It was cheap too, I think retial was like $12 or something at Borders.

Rocky McIntosh apparently wants out of DC. I think he would be a great pick up for us as he is great in pass coverage. And we won't go there with how the Eagles LB have done against TE's since Emmons left.

Bleeding Green Nation Donte Whitner?

There is a post on Pro Football Talk that the Bills are looking to get rid of Donte Whitner. He has had some problems in Buffalo and some off the field stuff, but playing in Buffalo can probably be a total drag. He ws a pro bowler and is only a 4year player. Seems like it might be a good fit. Maybe even a Mike Vick for Whitner swap?

Here's the link to the story

Bleeding Green Nation Merrill Hoge wears a thong

I heard this on the radio today, they were making fun of Merrill Hoge. Apparently in Miami last week he played in a Celebrity beach flag football game. He was sort "de-pantsed" on one play and he is apparently wearing a thong. Too funny.

More reasons for Eagles fans to kill him. check the link below for the photos of the crime

Bleeding Green Nation Sheldon Brown turns doen Probowl Invite

Looks like this is the reason Sheldon is not in the ProBowl. The story doesn't say when he turned it down. If i remember correctly when Terrence Newman was added he was lower than Sheldon on the alternatre list. He cits personal reasons for it, but i wonder if it is some sort of stand he is trying to put up. Certainly is very interesting stuff

Bleeding Green Nation Eagles game next Saturday evening

They just announced on Sunday Night Football that the Eagles Cowboys game will be the 2nd game on Saturday. I didnt find anything on this but it looked like an 8:00pm game. This will make it tougher since we will have to turn around in short time but it can be done. Hey Arizona got smoked by the Pats week 16 last year and then went on a run. They just have to play better..nothing else to say
