I hail from the UK, the City of Bath to be exact, and am a big Bath Rugby and England Rugby fan, but my supreme passion lies with the Edmonton Oilers - my "thing" to do before I die (though I should hopefully have many decades to accomplish this *touches wood*) is to travel to Canada and watch them play (preferrably in the SCF). We can all dream!

Blain traded back to Victoriaville

Oilers prospect Jeremie Blain has been traded back to the Victoriaville Tigres, for whom he played the first half of the 08-09 season, from the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. He has 24 points in 29 games, and will be looked to as a cornerstone defenceman for the Tigres as they push for the playoffs.

Blain Suspended 2 Games

Oiler's 2010 4th Round Draft Pick Jeremie Blain has been suspended by the QMJHL for 2 games after directing inappropriate remarks towards Shawinigan's Jonathan Racine on Friday.

Smid Re-Signs for 2 Years

Ladislav Smid signs a new 2 year contract with the Oilers. Terms TBC.

Oilers send contract offer to Pelss

According to Coming Down The Pipe, the Pipeline Show's blog, the Oilers are very pleased with how 2010 7th Round Draft Pick Kristians Pelss has developed, and have recently offered him a contract. Whilst he will certainly be returned to the WHL next year, this is interesting news and is another chapter in a great story for the young Latvian who didn't even have a name-board on draft day.

Jones re-ups for 2 years

Ryan Jones has re-signed with the Oilers on a 2-year deal; amount not yet known.

Oilers Ink Hamilton

The Oilers continue to get young players signed, as Curtis Hamilton looks to move forward in the AHL with the OKC Barons after a strong year in the WHL.

Oilers sign Tyler Pitlick; Dubnyk & Eberle named to Team Canada

Not that it guarantees he'll be in OKC next year, but Tambellini just made projecting next years possible AHL team that bit easier by announcing the signing of Pitlick to a 3-year deal. Dubnyk and Eberle also got the news that they will be playing for Team Canada at the Worlds later this month.

Oilers sign Arcobello

The Oilers have announced yet another signing, this time Mark Arcobello of the OKC Barons, to a 2 year entry-level deal. Arcobello, 22, has been an effective scorer in the AHL since being recalled from Stockton, and should help the Barons with their offense next year should they lose the likes of McDonald and Giroux to free agency (should he maintain this years pace...)

Kristians Pelss interviews with Bruce McCurdy

A very interesting interview with Pelss by Cult of Hockey and C&B writer Bruce. The kid has gotten better all year long, as well as growing an inch and putting on weight, without sacrificing his considerable speed and skill on the ice. He may or may not make it to the big leagues, and it'll be a long road if he does, but I still find him a very intriguing prospect and worthy of the draft pick afforded to him.

Petiot Recalled

Richard Petiot has been called up from the OKC Barons, presumably to replace Theo Peckham after his knock during Sunday's game.

Hemsky Top 5 in Right Wingers Points Per Game

Ales Hemsky has cracked the Top 5 right wingers in the league in P/G (if you exclude Brian Willsie, who has only played one game, and helped of course by his "3rd Star of the Week" output of 7 points in 3 games). This should serve as proof of his worth to the team, but also massively increase his trade value. To be in the company of Kane, Selanne, Perry and St Louis is a big deal, and shouldn't be ignored by Tambellini if trying to get full value for Hemsky. It also proves that when healthy, Hemsky can be a difference maker and one of the few proven NHL players on this team.

Souray on Re-Entry Waivers

Tambellini finally makes a decision by placing disgruntled defenseman on re-entry waivers.

Penner and Hemsky both wish to stay as Oilers

Whilst not earth-shattering, but nonetheless interesting and possibly good news in various media sources today show that Penner and Hemsky enjoy Edmonton and want to stay in Oiler silks. Brownlee over at ON has another angle from the same media scrum, so be sure to check that out too.

Rangers take a pass on Souray

Rangers scouts say he still has grit and shot, but too old and too slow.

Globe-trotting Tom Renney ready for an Oilers’ European game

While this may not mean much to Canada-based Oilers fans, to us British Oiler fans as well as those elsewhere in Europe, this is music to our ears...

2011 NHL All-Star Game Rosters Announced

Ales Hemsky has been included in the roster for the 2011 NHL All-Star Game in Raleigh, North Carolina. No matter what you think of the ASG, it's still an honour for Hemsky and a good thing to add to his resume.

Other Side of the Pond, Pt.1: Ice Hockey, you say...?

There is a significant base of hockey fans in the U.K. - here is an Oiler fan's take on the state of hockey on the island.

Latvia Wins U20 Div.1 Championship

Kristians Pelss sets up the GWG as Latvia defeats Belarus to move back up to the top-level of competition for next year's tournament. He scored 2G and 2A in 5 games, despite missing most of the first game after being ejected. Small sample size for sure, but there's still something intrigueing about this kid...
