Cal Basketball Walk-On DESTROYED SAT's
Awesome note here on one of our two walk-ons for this year. Armenian-American Raffi Chalian from Sonora HS (whose uniforms look awesomely similar to ours) scored a 2350 out of 2400 on the SAT's, only getting 50 points deducted from his essay.
(Second link: Asbarez - Chalian to Berkeley)
What a baller. Literally.
Boise State may receive "Lack of Institutional Control" charge
Looks like Ohio State might get off easy with this distraction.
ASU's New Uniforms
So i'm sure you guys have seen Wazzu's new unis (if not click here)
Here's ASU's new uniforms. Most notably, they got rid of Sparky on the helmets, and put a rather awkward (IMHO) 'ASU' lettering on the sleeves. Reminds me a little too much of USC's, but in all looks pretty aggressive and will unfortunately bode well for their recruiting.
What do you guys think? Should we expect new uniforms for us next year?
Cal's Jorge Gutierrez shaped by life-changing voyage from Mexico
Awesome in-depth article on our Jorge Gutierrez and his journey from Chihuahua. Good stuff, great story! Hard-nose player through a hard-nosed life of adversity. Respect!
Cal... Vulcans? Of Pennsylvania??
Has anyone else seen this travesty???

Bizarro. Red handrawn Cal Script.......

I however like the hammer smashing logo.
Jacksonville drops ASU from NIT
We pounded Jacksonville earlier in the season..... Ouch.
MASOLI CHARGED WITH BURGLARY, forrealthistime
...looks like Oregon may have a harder time staying on top next season.....
Big Game Moved to November 20... ANOTHER season without a Big Game finale
Uncle Ted shares that the Big Game has been moved to November 20th, thereby shafting us by having us end the season against OREGON STATE. UGH.
The reason? Stanfurd wanted it moved from its previous December date because it might interfere with the first week of finals. Because apparently those matter there.
LA Times names Allen Crabbe "the best player in Southern California, if not the state"
* Allen Crabbe, Los Angeles Price. The 6-6 Crabbe has become perhaps the best player in Southern California, if not the state. He's averaging 23 points, close to 11 rebounds and has played at such a high level that there are lots of college recruiters wishing he hadn't signed with California in November.*
Awesome, can't wait to see Allen in Blue and Gold.
GO BEARS!
Looks like Gregg Easterbrook over at ESPN's Page 2 is giving us some scholarly love!
"What about the other commonly heard claim -- that "smart schools" can't win in football and men's basketball? Cal, Georgia Tech, Navy, Nebraska, Northwestern, Stanford and TCU -- all academics-first colleges where football players are more likely to attend class -- are on their way to bowl games. "
"Reader Natasha Lettis of Oakland, Calif., provides this troika of stories about academics being enforced in the Cal football program: One player gave up his starting position because a class he requires for graduation conflicts with practice; another was suspended for a game for missing class; this article assesses Cal's overall commitment to blending academics and football. Cal's example shows that a football-factory school can enforce academic rules and still have a great season -- Cal finished 8-4 and will face Utah in the Poinsettia Bowl."
"Is this autumn some kind of fluke? No. Last year, Boston College, Cal, Georgia Tech, Navy, North Carolina, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Rice, TCU, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest made bowls. "
"The field for last season's NCAA men's basketball tournament included Boston College, Butler, Cal, Cornell, Duke, North Carolina, Purdue, UCLA, Villanova and Wake Forest. In the women's tournament, Cal, Dartmouth, Duke, Georgia Tech, Lehigh, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Stanford, TCU, Villanova and Vanderbilt made it."
