Making a Move

Usually the NFL trade deadline, the most boring trade deadline out of the main trio of professional sports, passes with maybe little excitement. If any trades even do occur, it's usually like a Pinball Machine from team A's rec room for Team B's towel boy.

And with week 6 fast approaching, I wondered if anyone thought we should make a move, maybe pick up a disgruntled player or two. I think we do need some help in a few areas, defensive line being the most obvious, so I would not be disappointed if we were to. I recall Guru saying that if we think were close to being a great team, we should make a move to push us over the edge.

Just post your opinion on if we should make a move, who we should go after, and who could be on the market.

Royal With Cheese (And the Case for D-Jack's Roster Spot)

I don't know if this nickname has been used yet but I'm going to beat it to death like a pinata shaped like a Raider. But I'm not here to come up with catchy monikers. I'm here to be the first one to officially announce that Mr. With Cheese has passed D-Jack on the depth chart. This drops D-Jack all the way down to the four spot do to Stokley's stranglehold on the slot position. And according to rotoworld.com, my go to fantasy website, this puts D-Jacks roster position in serious danger. (Yes I'm an advertising whore)

"After being supplanted by Eddie Royal, Darrell Jackson has fallen to a fourth receiver in Denver.

He drops two rungs on the depth chart because Brandon Stokley is the slot receiver. Jackson may now be in danger of not making the team. Denver has more invested in Keary Colbert and Jackson would be easier to cut."

-rotoworld.com

Now this is where this post does an 180 and questions this exact quote. I just don't get why D-Jack's roster position would be in any danger. In my mind he's still more talented than Colbert. And I do see their point about us having more money invested in Colbert but don't we still have S. Parker and G. Martinez to dump off?

I just think that we can't dumping our few veterans if we're ever going to have a chance at making the playoffs let alone winning the division. I mean this guy has three, almost four, 1000 yard receiving seasons and he's still under thirty. I might be wrong, but I think that's more than our whole roster has combined. I just think we should scratch anybody other wideout under him. But then again I may be preaching for his roster spot because he already has a roster spot on another team, Mr. Henry's Doobies. (A.K.A. My fantasy team.)

First off I wanna say thanks again to all of you who already joined my league from this site. But we still have 17 teams and I would like to have an even number. So if anyone is interested in filling out our league the ID is 124969 and the password is rclady. It's a yahoo league, which is the best for fantasy football in my opinion, and the draft is currently set for the 23rd of July which is a Wednesday. Anyone is welcome to join if your a serious fantasy player. It would be great if we could get three people who would be willing to join so we could fill out our league at the max. Just post a message below if you intend to join.

-Thx

Okay I'm a self confessed fantasy addict and I've somehow manged to get myself in two leagues two months the season even starts. But that's no where near enough for me. I was hoping to make a league with just Broncos fans and this site is the best place to advertise that. I'm looking for 10-15 committed fantasy players to join my league. And when I say committed I really do mean it. Please don't plan on joining this if your not tooling with your roster each and every week.

I plan on having my league on Yahoo, its the best site for fantasy football in my opinion, so make sure you have a Yahoo league. If You would like to join, the league ID is 124969 and the password is rclady.

Part Time GM: Trading Diaw and Barbosa

Sometimes when I'm bored, I let my imagination grow. So to entertain myself, I got on the NBA Trade Machine and started to search far and wide for a fair trade to dump Diaw and LB. And I came across a blockbuster, and a slightly less notable, trade option.

Here's my first trade I created between the Suns, Knicks, and Sonics Oklahoma City Desperadoes (Sweet name I now.):

SEA/OKC Trades: Nick Collison, Luke Ridnour and Donyell Marshall

SEA/OKC Receives: Stephon Marbury

NY Trades: Stephon Marbury

NY Receives: Luke Ridnour, Leandro Barbosa, and Donyell Marshall

PHX Trades: Leandro Barbosa

PHX Receives: Nick Collison

Now before you start threating to throw sharp objects in my direction, look at our 2nd trade between the Bobcats and us:

CHA Trades: Matt Carroll and Raymond Felton

PHX Trades: Boris Diaw and D.J. Strawberry

Here's the "Desperadoes" depth chart after the trade:

C-Chris Wilcox-Mouhammed Sene-DeVon Hardin

PF-Jeff Green-Serge Ibaka-D.J. White

SF-Kevin Durant-Adrian Griffen

SG-Damien Wilkins-Earl Watson/Russell Westbrook

PG-Stephon Marbury-Earl Watson/Russell Westbrook

Just sign one more shooter and you have yourself a pretty solid run-and-gun team. Stephon Marbury gives them someone who doesn't have to take out his I.D. to purchase an adult beverage. Sure he's not what he used to be, but he's still a talented player. And I'm pretty sure they don't plan to resign him after his final year so that gives them pockets-full of cash to extend Durant's and Green's contract and still have enough to sign a big name free agent.

Here's the Knicks depth chart after the trade:

C-Eddy Curry-Jerome James

PF-Zach Randolph-David Lee

SF-Danilo Gallineri-Quentin Richardson

SG-Jamal Crawford-Leandro Barbosa

PG-Luke Ridnour-Nate Robinson

If they can pick up one more center in free agency, they have one hell of a team that will still somehow find a way to underachieve. Barbosa follows the D'Antoni Bros to the Big Apple to top off a fantastic bench. Picking up Ridnour allows Jamal Crawford to move back to his more natural position and still keep PG depth. New York might be getting the best of the three way deal.

Here's the Bobcats Depth Chart after the trade:

C-Omeka Okafor-Nazr Mohammed-Alexis Ajenca

PF-Boris Diaw-Sean May

SF-Gerald Wallace-Adam Morrison

SG-Jason Richardson-Jared Dudley

PG-D.J. Augistin-D.J. Strawberry

They aren't exactly title contenders but their wishes do come true. They get to dump off Felton and get more big man depth. They also become the newly crowned "run and gun" Phoenix Suns by moving Okafor to C. With Morrison returning, the 3,4, and 5 are very deep but they still are thin at PG. Just sign a vet to put the two young guys under his wing and you have an potential 7 or 8 seed.

Last but definitely least here's what our Depth Chart looks like:

C-Shaquille O'Neal-Robin Lopez

PF-Amare Stoudimire-Nick Collison

SF-Grant Hill-Alando Tucker

SG-Raja Bell-Matt Carroll

PG-Steve Nash-Raymond Felton

I seems like I've said, "This is our last shot at the title" for a few years now but this truly is our last chance. After this year Shaq and Grant are most likely gone and I'm not sure how much damage Nash's body can still take. Kerr has been talking about really cutting down Nash's minutes so we obviously need another PG to step in. Felton gives us a potential starter coming off the bench which can really cut down Steve's playing time to save him for the playoffs. Matt Carroll gives us that much needed jump shooter off the bench if we don't resign G.G. Collison is a more athletic, consistent Boris Diaw. (Another bonus is that he isn't afraid of the rim.) If we just sign another back up to Grant Hill, we probably have the deepest bench in the league, which is exactly what the doctor ordered for our prehistorically old starting lineup.

Although this trade benefits some teams more than others, I still think its a pretty fair trade all-around. And I know that it's never going to happen so don't get on me with all the negativity. Think of this as just food for thought...

 <fieldset class="poll-box">

The "Ultimate" Rankings: What Madden Thinks Of Us

I know many of you have lost countless hours of sleep just thinking about what our player's rankings will be in Madden 09, and I'm the first with the breaking news.

Here's the link for our beloved Broncos

But the fun doesn't stop there folks. We've got to compare and contrast the Orange and Blue to the rest of AFC West.

Here's the link for those not-so-loveable-losers in KC

Here's the link for those bandwagoners in the baby blue and yellow

Last and definately least are those neanderthals from Oakland

Yes, yes there's really no point to this blog besides complaining and after my blog about low expectations I shouldn't really care right? But how can they give Cutler an 86....

To Be (Predicted For Success) or Not To Be

One of the oldest questions in all of sports is if it is a good thing to be predicted to prosper. Some preseason favorites thrive off it like the Celtics and Patriots (That is until they get into the Superbowl.) Others teams, like this season's Mariners, stumble and fall, or crash and burn into a fiery inferno in the M's case, with the high hopes and predictions on their shoulders. But when your critics expectations are low, like our beloved Orange and Blue, there is no pressure on you to rise to the top.(Here's what Vegas expects from us.)

The Saints from 2 seasons ago are the perfect example of each. Before they embarassed almost each team they played all the way to the NFC Championship, fans everywhere thought there were 31 teams. But let's just look at the flip side of it. The next year, they were basically handing out their Superbowl rings before the crumbled under the pressure.

Now here is where our Broncos come into the picture. Vegas is giving us 7.5 wins (We get .25 of a victory for each time we defeat the Raiders. : p.) As good as it feels as a fan to talk trash to your friends in the preseason, it would feel even better to come out of no where and be the suprise of the season. Just think about it. There's no pressure! None of the big boys are circling us on their schedules (Hopefully not yet that is.) Its almost like the experts are saying that the AFC West features the Chargers and 3 bologna sandwiches. But that's the beauty of it! We're the exciting underdog if we get hot but if the opposites happens, were just those silly Broncos. (I think were all praying for the first option.)

For the past 5 seasons I've had high expectations for my team. I was even preaching about the Superbowl last season. But this season its different. I'm at the point that I can only be happy with our success. Failure won't be followed by rage like each of the previous seasons. (Ex: I started searching for a discount hitman to take out Brett Farve after that MNF meltdown.) I really do think that we will suprise people this season. Sure we have no superstar with the exception of Champ, but we are at least average at each position with some high points such as Cutler, Marshall, Nalen, Bly, Bailey, Doom, and D.J. I'm not attempting to get 16-0 tattooed on my forehead like I seem to do each year but I am calling a wild card. And at this point even that can be considered a unexpected success.

 <fieldset class="poll-box">
 <legend>Poll</legend>

Coming into a season would you rather have the media have high expectations or low expectations for your team?

A Royal Suprise

The NFL Draft has always been a holiday for me. I can't remember a time in the past 5 years that I haven't at least watched the first round. (The last two years I've watched the entire day one which was previously 3 rounds.) I was hoping to attempt to watch the entire thing "buzzer to buzzer" for the first time this year until I realized a scheduling conflict would mean I was at the bottom of the Grand Canyon on the day of the draft. I would have backed out but I had already paid the money and was already 5 weeks into my "training hikes". I like to think a little part of me died that day.

But this isn't meant to be a emotional rollercoaster so let me get to the point. At the bottom of the Canyon there is a payphone which I used to call my family to get all the updates. I called around 4:00 pacific time to get the update for the first round. I was very pleased to hear that our blueprint for world domination had gone so far as planned. We got our franchise LT just like we had hoped and to put the cherry on top, all the WRs, which had been our 2nd option in my mind if Clady was gone, had fallen to the 2nd round. I told my father I'd call back in about two hours to get the round.

Immediately I began to fantasize about having both my ideal player at our position, Clady, and my backup plan DeSean Jackson. I thought this pick made perfect sense. We have had probably the worst return game in all the NFL in the last 3-4 seasons and that's what Jackson did best. I also thought he could be the perfect compliment to the big, overly-powerful Brandon Marshall.

Still in my state of "Orange and Blue Nirvana" I called back two hours later with thoughts of purchising a Jackson Broncos jersey. Skipping the reading of each pick in order, I asked my Dad right away who did we draft. That's when I heard the name Eddie Royal. (Honestly this might have been the first time I even heard of this guy.) Since we were 12 picks in the 2nd, I was just guessing everyone had traded up to get all this big name wideouts who were still on the board. So I asked my dad to read of all the selections.

My Dad: "St. Louis, Donnie Avery. Washington, Devin Thomas..."

Me thinking to myself: "I guess I can see Avery going there. And there goes Thomas. The teams are trading up. The flood gates are open."

My Dad: "...Jordy Nelson to the Packers......"

Me Still Thinking: "Wow the Packers traded up to get Nelson. At least get Sweed or Jackson. Do the Packers even need a WR?....."

My Dad: "....Buffalo got James Hardy, Denver got Royal..."

Finally Me Speaking: " Dad did you skip DeSean Jackson. Look for the name DeSean Jackson."

My Dad: "Are you calling me slow or something? Hold on a second... Let's see... It looks like the Eagles got him with pick number 49."

I got him to read me Royal's scouting report, which I have to admit made me drool a teeny bit, before saying my goodbyes in a state of shock. Why would we pass up on DeSean and ruin my diabolical plot to rule the world?

When I got home late Sunday night, all dusty and dirty from hiking out, I rushed to my computer to read up on my new best friend Eddie Royal. Trying ignore my parents pleas about my foul odor and resemblance to Pigpen, I tried to rationalize this pick through many draft analysists. I still feel, even though Royal was not a bad pick and should turn out to be a good pro for us, that we should have grabbed DeSean. I automatically went from hoping DeSean would be star to hoping he would be nothing more than a failure. I'm the first to admit that this is quite evil but then again, I'm the guy with the Philip Rivers voodoo doll.
