Waggle Room Definition of "almost winning"

"I almost won the tournament with a band-aid swing." That's what Tiger said after the Masters. I must have missed that version of this years first major. I did not see him close to the top spot at any time sunday, and I did not see him even be close to a play off. What I saw was Phil Mickelson making a splendid first nine holes and making things interesting pretty fast - and I saw Tiger trail Mickelson all day. Another thing I saw: I saw Mickelson miss some important putts that could have put HIM in a play off. And I saw Kenny Perry make to bogeys on 17 and 18. But never mind...

Waggle Room Is it all about Tiger?

I don't get it. Maybe you can help me. Phil Mickelson shoots 63 and 62 and wins on the PGA Tour the same week Tiger Woods says he will come back. Tiger gets all the press.

Tiger gets beaten in second round in WGC Match Play by Tim Clark. But gets all the press.

Mickelson wins the CA Championship while being sick. Woods end up outside top 10 - and gets all the press.

I wonder if the golf world would be fine with the situation that a tournament just included Tiger in the field and noone else? Often, it seems like nobody cares about anything else.

Woods is great - no doubt about that - but no one is greater than the game, not even a guy that can't control his caddie, never tips, can't play Ryder Cup, spits on course, bad mouth the NHL and in many ways don't live up to the standard of the game and good behavour.

How far is the golf fans willing to go before even they get's a little critical. Is it OK as it is or is it a little over the top?

I'm looking forward to some input.
