Okay, there is no way this is Sandy Alderson
Will have to drive carefully on trip; Mets only reimburse for gas at a downhill rate. Will try to coast all the way to FL.
Stay Classy Philly
Not baseball related, but Flyers' fans boo anti-cancer ad because of the players in it.
The inaugural sabermetrics Amazin' Avenue fantasy league has a winner, and in a surprising upset, no one wins! It looked like a sure thing that mistermet would have an easy victory in the championship playing unopposed, but some how the impossible happened and he lost to nobody. Someone at Yahoo really screwed up, they should correct this immediately.

Nimmo's not a bust! Don't TRAID!
3-3 with a homer and 2 walks. Now, if he can do that every game for the rest of his career, he might be decent.
Some players just don't take the game seriously.
Down 20 runs with CC Sabathia on the mound, 11 year old left fielder Vaughn Bergen was caught dancing in left field and he admits to also dancing in the dugout. Obviously he is not mature enough to play baseball and he clearly doesn't care. Much like Derek Anderson who was caught laughing while his Arizona Cardinals were losing last year, Vaughn has shown his childishness in these serious moments. While he was crying at one point, the fact that he stopped and came to the realization that losing a game isn't the end of the world, is frankly disgusting. And don't get me started about how the dancing was showing up the other team. All in all, this was just disgraceful.
It's an old article, but worth reading again.
We miss you Carlos.
WE DID IT YOU GUYS!!! WE REALLY DID IT!
First Reyes/Wright get overlooked in the franchise drafts, now this.
Even in a list of suck, the Mets get disrespected. This is a list of the highest paid bench warmers in sports (and they include the just released Milton Bradley), and not a mention of Oliver Perez! I mean seriously, this team can't get recognition for anything.
Greg Maddux faced 20,421 batters in his career. Just 310 of them saw a 3-0 count. That's roughly one every three starts."
Oliver Perez has faced 4,941 batters in career. Yet only 5,298 batters have seen a 3-0 count. That's more 3-0 counts than batters faced. #insane
Actually it's only 137. Still, that's 2.8% of batters faced to Maddux's 1.5%. Maddux=Good, Oliver Perez=LOL
We need one more player for a SABR fantasy league
Just copy and pasted Ogre's original post After doing some research I came upon Ottoneu's scoring system for FanGraphs. It's a Yahoo! H2H points keeper league with what amounts to basically wRC and FIP with some added tweaks by yours truly to try and simulate leverage for relievers. There will be a live draft at a time to be determined. The scoring categories and lineup construction will follow in the comments. I ask anyone who joins to please make sure they will do two things: 1) stay active and, 2) have interest in actually staying with a keeper league. Also, for familiarity reasons, team names should contain at least part of your AA screen name (for instance, my team is "Ogre's Ogres" - they don't have to be that blatant and unimaginative though). League ID#: 81495 League Name: Sabermetrics! Password: nickevans Looks like it'll be a ton of fun, and seems like Ogre's put a lot of work in for this keeper league.
Is this irony?
I'm usually not in the business of making a fanshot to bash Cerrone, but I just thought this was pretty funny. Apparently on Metsblog, there is a new type of post where Cerrone will give a quick update on what he's working on. As he explains, this type of post will have no title and no comments (hence no link) and "not a lot or [sic] words." What I find amusing is that of the 10 stories on the front page, this post has the third most words, falling 25 short of the 115 the leader had, and excluding two posts that just listed the main points of Terry Collins and Jeff Wilpon interviews, only one post on the second page had more words at a whopping 147. I just found this entertaining so I thought I'd share.

Another awesome Justin Bopp graphic. Here's the original post
FanGraph's take on our system
This is what I got out of it:
"Therefore, a reasonably insane Mets fan can assume that Flores should be good for a .311/.383/.542 production throughout his team-controlled seasons, presumably beginning in mid-2012."
And here's their Top 10 for us
Sabean isn't the only idiot in the Giants front office
Prediction: Giants go 84-78 next season
This is about Beltran, probably not FanShot worthy, but funny to me
I was just looking on FanGraphs at the top center fielder's by WAR over the past 3 years. I was shocked when I saw that Beltran wasn't on the list, as seen in the link above. I then realized he's been injured the past two season, so I clicked "all players," and there he is! The second best player at his position in the past 3 years without even playing enough games to qualify 2 full seasons.
But he sucks and was a huge waste of money.

Perhaps the biggest fail in the history of fail
Not only do they ignore the fantastic mustache of Keith Hernandez, they outright mock it! I've lost all faith in humanity.

Where does Cesar Puello Rank?
After tonight's 3-3 with a walk, Puello now has a slash line of .299/.383/.368/.751. The .69 ISO isn't pretty, but at 19 he's shown he can hit and draw some walks. A 6.9% BB% is more that decent for someone his age at his level, even his K% has come down from 22.9% in Kingsport to 16.9% this year. And of course, his biggest strength as a player is his speed, 45 for 54 in stolen bases, good for an 83.3% success rate. He has a strong arm and good speed, Toby Hyde says he has power, just that it hasn't translated in game yet, solid discpline and is still young. If he played center (which he's probably capable of) his value would be considerably higher, but he's still probably top 5 in our organization right now.
Prospect Retro on Our Former Top Prospect
Just thought some people might be interested in seeing this.
Here's a fun fact:
Milledge - .313 wOBA
Francoeur - .309 wOBA
And, while this is arbitrary, since Milledge's terrible April and Francoeur's excellent April, their slash lines look like this:
Milledge - .288/.369/.404/.773
Francoeur - .251/.291/.354/.645

Mets Make Acquisition of the Century
If Michael Barrett doesn't get us to the World Series, I don't know what will. For those that don't remember, he was above average for 3 seasons (2004-2006) putting up 2.6, 3.1, and 2.7 WAR seasons.
Aww Crap. What Now?
Havens got pinch hit for in the top of the third. I haven't been able to find any info, but I can't imagine it's good news for the injury prone second baseman.
Fernando's Back
2-3 with a double for St. Lucie. What was his injury this time?

Wow. Really Steve Phillips?
I knew about the radio comments, but did anyone see this video? He probably still regrets not trading David Wright for Juan Cruz Jr.
Dallas Braden is the 19th pitcher to throw a perfect game
See what happens when you don't walk on his mound?
Who Knew David Wright Was So Overrated?
ESPN asked 20 questions to 100 anonymous players one of which being who is the best player and most overrated player in baseball. The answers just prove how little these guys know about their own sport.
Fernando Martinez Community Projection
Over at Sickel's website he put up a community projection for Fernando. So if anyone wants, go post what you think he'll do this season in the Majors.
