Realistic Compensation
Here is the list of the 2012 Texans UFA's:
Re-signed
LS Jon Weeks, RB Arian Foster, C Chris Myers, S Quintin Demps, LB Tim Dobbins
We Signed
P Donnie Jones, LB Bradie James
Signed elsewhere
OLB Mario Williams, G Mike Brisiel, CB Jason Allen, TE Joel Dreessen, K Neil Rackers
Traded
ILB DeMeco Ryans
Released
QB Matt Leinart, FB Lawrence Vickers, T Eric Winston
Remaining Texans unsigned unrestricted free agents:
S Dominique Barber, DE Tim Bulman, QB Jake Delhomme, QB Jeff Garcia, WR Bryant Johnson, G Kasey Studdard, P Matt Turk and RB Derrick Ward. Delhomme and Garcia are both expected to retire.
I believe this is now updated (I got it from http://blog.houstontexans.com/2012/04/07/free-agency-tracker-updated-look-at-texans-moves/ ).
So my question is, with the guys that have signed elsewhere, we could probably get a pick for each one. What is realistic compensation for each person? Do you think any of the other players that have yet to be signed would fetch anything? Do you think James might produce enough to negate a compensation of 1 pick?
Let's hear you Texan Nation!
P.S. - If list is wrong, I tried to edit it to best of my knowledge using that link as my base. Let me know, if things need to be changed. Thanks

Mike Wallace
So now the Texans have cut Leinart, Vickers, Winston and who knows who else. They did not resign many of their guys including Briesel, Allen, Williams, and others. They have signed just one guy, and a very important player on our team. The question is, What's Next?
How about this?
No one is 100 percent sure on salary cap numbers so I'm not going to try and throw out a number. For those who know the numbers, what are the odds of a Mike Wallace signing. The giving up the pick, should not be the problem. You get a top WR talent to match with AJ for like 5 years. Does it work within the cap. I have heard that cutting Jacoby Jones could free up a little more that 4+ Million. Restructuring Walter should also clear some money. I assume they could restrict other's as well like Joseph, Ryans, Smith, etc.
What say you Texans fans?
AJ-Wallace combo for next 5 years for a 1st rounder?

Mike Wallace?
With the news in the last few days, that the Steelers will let Wallace walk if they can't afford, why not Houston for a place for Wallace to land?
Houston is likely targeting a WR in the 1st round, so to sign Wallace, they would have to sign him to a contract and give up the 1st rounder...
To me, it might be more worth it to use the cash on Wallace in a position of need, then on Mario (love the guy, but Reed/Barwin have proven themselves IMO)...
That would then allow us to cut Jacoby and use that cash elsewhere...along with a few other reconstructions of contracts, other things could become possible too...
An AJ/Wallace combo, would put us at the top of the pack in the AFC..
What you guys think?

If I'm Rick Smith
These are my moves this offseason, if I'm running the team. Now I'm not sure money wise if this is even possible, but maybe with some restructuring here and there, and some cuts, these can be made.
1. Sign Mike Wallace as RFA with that 1st round tender. We are most likely using our 1st rounder on a WR, so why not get someone we know for sure is great. He is 25, and with him on 1 side, and AJ on the other, defenses have no shot. That would leave Kevin Walter as slot 3rd WR (i like him there a lot), and then cut Jacoby Jones.
2. Sign Paul Soliai. He is a great NT, and with him in middle of Watt, and Smith, it would be sick.
3. Somehow resign Mario. I know Reed, and Barwin are good enough, but Mario is a different beast (in the same animal (kobe nikesystem reference). Reed would move to bench but play a lot in different formations.
4. Sign Foster to 4-5 yr. deal, and resign Myers/Briesel.
What do you guys think? Possible?
Not sure Wallace is possible, but another possibility I think we have to consider is trading up for Justin Blackmon. The guy could be the next AJ, and giving up picks for a beast like that at this time, is something that needs to be considered.
Texans agreed to terms with P Brad Maynard on a one-year contract.

Anthony Rendon
I saw someone last night mention that they hope Rendon won't sign so that we can get him next year at 1 overall...
My question is: Does anyone think that Rendon (Born in Houston and probably grew up a Stros fan), sees that Houston is the favorite for the number 1 pick, will not sign with WSH, and hope to regain enough value after being hurt for alot of the year which is why he didnt go 1 this year, and hope HOU takes him? It's a little risky for Rendon, but if he's healthy next year then he would be a lock to go number 1, and its almost a lock Houston will get number 1, especially if they deal guys like Kepp, Wandy, Bourn, Myers (though now it might help us loosing Myers)...
What you guys think??
Burress Mentions Houston as a Team...
Appearing on NFL Network Thursday night, free agent Plaxico Burress floated the Texans as a possible landing spot.
He's smart to keep his options wide open. "When you say Houston, all I can say is 'Wow,'" Burress said. "That's all I can say, because I give respect where respect is due. And I believe Andre Johnson is the best wide receiver in football. ... Matt Schaub has really taken off as an elite quarterback. I think Arian Foster is one of the top-five running backs in this league. I think that team is bound for the playoffs this year and looking forward to great things."

A Player the Rockets Could Pursue...
We all have heard by now, and know that the Rockets are looking to make a big trade. We have heard the names of CP3/Melo/Iggy/ and Granger. Here is a name I have yet to see being mentioned. How about Rashard Lewis? The guy would look nice at our SF position. He does have a very big contract and he is already 31. He shouldn't cost so so much. A trade of: Hill, Jeffries, TPE, and a pick should do the trick...and they might want Courtney Lee back...
What do you guys think of Rashard Lewis?
An Interesting look at the 4 way trade
We all know the Rockets got C. Lee (Not Carlos, but Courtney) and a 6.3 Million TPE in the trade. For those still not totally convinced on this 4 way deal, I want to provide another reason, why Morey might have done it (if he realized this, I don't know).
One other part of this deal was Collison and Posey going to the Pacers for Troy Murphy. Now I don't know what you guys think of this lineup, but this is what it looks like.
PG - Collison/Ford or Price
SG- Rush/Posey/Jones
SF- Granger/Dunleavy/George
PF - McRoberts/Hansborough
C- Hibbert/Foster
Now, George or Dunleavy can start at SG. Anyone think this lineup can beat the Knicks and possibly making them a Lotto team? Apparently IND is going to go out and get a PF (according to Granger)...this is an OK team and with MLW improving, maybe IND makes the playoffs now, knocking out the Knicks...thoughts?

My Trip To Cowboys Stadium!
Before I start, I must say, YOU NEED TO VISIT THIS PLACE ASAP!
Ok, so after visiting Round Rock, and the Texas Rangers game, my last stop was Cowboys Stadium. I parked about 1 mile away. Parking Cost: $20. (This is also in the August Heat!) The walk was not too bad though. Arrived at 6 p.m. and already many people walking to the stadium.
Outside - The walk to the stadium is very nice. Walk along a nice bridge with small river under. Nice Parking Lots. As you walk closer, the stadium gets bigger and bigger. About 200 feet from stadium you approach security. You can not bring much into the stadium. My water bottle was taken away from me, and the football from a kid in front of me was taken. After getting checked, they scan your ticket and then you are officially there. The next 200 feet is filled with TV's, and many (can't think of what they are called) people selling beers, and other cowboys items. Once you get to the hundreds of doors, you open it...

MMP Appreciation
Yesterday, I was on Day 2 of my road trip. After experiencing a pretty hot night at Round Rock the night before, I was expecting it to be very similar in Arlington. Well, I was 100 percent wrong. I showed up at 5:15 just on time for BP. As I always do, I head for Left Field. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. The sun is right in your face. You sit there and even if a ball comes near you, it is hard to see. Combine the 110+ heat index, with the fact the Yankees hit a combined 6 balls to LF for 1 hour, I was not to happy. I spent an hour in the sun, boiling. (Side Note: A women walked in to LF from a tunnel, and ball hit her right on the head. Don't know what happened but it made me cringe. (and others)). Anyway, that was just the beginning of the misery. Then I had to wait 30 minutes for the game to start. Thankfully, my seats were in the shade (all the way up).
It was 100 Degrees by gametime. The heat was unbearable and so was there PA announcer. He repeated himself hundreds of times. Makes too many announcements. For example: "Now the Starting Lineup for the Yankees. Batting first SS, Derek Jeter. Derek Jeter Shortstop. Batting 2 in RF Nick Swisher. Swisher Right Field. etc...this happened 18 times. Wait we are not done! Then when the pitcher and catcher go to warmup before the inning, the PA announcer assumes we didn't hear him the first time and announces who the battery mate and pitcher is.
Now let's get back to the game. I WILL NEVER GO TO AN AL GAME AGAIN. The game was 9 innings and took 4 hours. Mr. Washington chose to have about 3 pitching changes within the last 2 innings. Also, there were about 13 pickoff attempts (once there was 4 consecutive). The game was not so exciting for me, except the 4 Berkman AB's. He played pretty well going 1-3, 2b, BB.
What else is there to vent about? How about the set-up. The traffic is unbelievable getting to the game. It seems like around 30,000 of the ppl. in crowd live in Dallas which is around a 40 minute drive. Took me 1 hour to get to game. It was pretty easy to get into stadium. Set-up is ok. I dislike the exit layout. Fans from the top have to go on a spiral ramp (it's really a triangle ramp that spirals down). Fans have to take that, or take the staircase down. Takes 10 minutes to get out of there. The Parking around the stadium seems ok. Today, I might cry getting in and out of Cowgirls Stadium. Hopefully, not man people show up.
Anyway, after last night, I really really really appreciate Minute Maid Park. The roof, the parking lots, the ways to leave stadium, the decent prices, the nice stadium, the normal PA Announcer, the AC!!!!! Just a great park, and after last nights miserable game at Rangers Stadium, I LOVE MMP!
PS: You thought in Houston they say "Make Some Noise" way too much. Texas did it about 3 times an inning. (I believe on first AB of game they did it)

What Sign Should I Make?
My Road trip starts today at Round Rock. I will be watching the Triple A debut of Jordan Lyles. Tomorrow night, I will be going to Arlington to watch the Rangers play the Yankees. It dawned on me today that this is the first time ever, I will watch Berkman in a jersey other than Houston. I really would love to make a sign and show our support for him. Any Ideas as to what my sign should read?
Please post all ideas!

Rockets Drawing Interest For JJ
The Rockets are drawing interest from around the league for Jared Jeffries and his expiring contract.
The Knicks are reportedly trying to give them Eddy Curry and possibly some other pieces for Jeffries. Jeffries can play everything from shooting guard to center, including defense, while Curry has an expiring deal of his own. Source: Marc Spears on Twitter Related: KnicksFrom Rotoworld.com
My guess, is a deal will happen before the end of August.
MJD offers fantasy advice (Texan player involved)
| Maurice Jones-Drew has selected Arian Foster as his fantasy sleeper for 2010. "I really like Arian Foster," said MJD. "I think he’s a good running back, especially in their system, the Denver system. And I watched him in college too. It’s his style -- in that zone system, a bigger back (6-foot-1, 229 pounds) who can get a cut and get his shoulders square. He’s going to be a force to be reckoned with. I really like him and I’ve got some sources, too." |
