Red Reporter Red Repooper --- All the News Thats Fit...

Welcome one and all to the Innaugural Edition of The Repooper. Yesterday brought the first snowfall of the season and that is usually the most unwelcome sight of the year, White (and Black) Death will soon follow. I don't mean to offend the big fans of winter out there and i do think winter is pleasant in extremely small sample sizes. Anywho, RR Reporter has run its course and it seems SIS's have jumped the shark, too. Time to talk some shit!

I found this more than a little interesting and I do wonder why folks use their cel phones as telephones as much as they do, putting up to their mouths and all. Ick. 16% of cel phones have shit of them

I wanted to include a little music in The Poop Report, does it surprise you that the artist I selected was the Dave Matthews Band? Shitty DMB fans along with shitty non fans!

Some folks learn better visually, some orally, some by sense of touch. Sometimes a good pat on the back works better in corporate settings than telling someone job well done. Well, this is for the other third of people who learn best visually. Channel 12's Guide to Understanding Poop

Disclosure: I love Trip Advisor. So far, it hasnt steered me wrong in all my travels. The ability to read first hand reviews of hotels/resorts prior to booking them is one of my favorite things about the internets. Its not always an exact science, but it usally it pretty damn spot on if there's a big enough review base. What is the closest hotel to BK's office and what does it have to do with poop?

Red Reporter SIS - Most Memorable Songs in Film (and Beer)

Songs and film go hand in hand but when done well some music tends to leave an indelible mark on our memories. Pick your top 5 most memorable songs in film from memory, without a google search, and list the first five that pop into your head.

First couple songs i think of are both from Kenny Loggins, "The Danger Zone" from Top Gun and "Footloose". Oddly, i think "I'm Alright" from Caddyshack is right up there also. I don't particularly care for Mr Loggins' music but he's the first, three in this case, musician i associate with soundtrack songs.

Fourth up is "Circle of Life" from the Lion King. Great opening scene to a flick (possibly a future SIS topic) and I have no idea who sings the song.

Fifth, for me, is "Stuck in the Middle with You" from Reservoir Dogs...no idea who sings it. Which are your five?

Beertalk - last night i had Cincinnati's Rivertown Brewery's Pumpkin Ale and Dogfish Head Punkin Ale. Rivertown by a UD, not KO. Punkin might be my 2nd favorite pumpkin ale out there. I've tried about 10 different pumpkin ales this autumn and im here to tell you that some of them are utterly shitty.

Red Reporter SIS - Booze Rating edition (Part 1)

Today's venture into SISness starts with a quick recap of Rivertown Brewery's fine Pumpkin Ale.   Its good as shit, go getcha some.  Quickly.  I think its the best of the pumpkin brews ive tasted.  I havent had Dogfish Punkin and tonight's taster is Smuttynose Pumpkin, film at eleven.

The meat and potatoes of this Fanpost is going to be rating your favorite of the clear liquors; vodka gin rum and tequila.  Hopefully we will come to a consensus for each of these spirits in time for the annual Red Reporter Year End Awards (for which there will be no voting).   My nominees for Booze of the Year are:

Gin - Bombay Sapphire.  in a landslide.

Vodka - Stolichnaya by a nose over Ketel One.

Rum - Tommy Bahama clear rum.   I prefer a dark rum personally but you cant go wrong with the TB product.

Tequila - Tequila 1921, 100% agave.  Deeeeeeeeelicious.

Lets hear you voice your support for your favorites, gang.  Next week will bring us Beers of the World ratings.  Be sure to get out there and taste any brews that you havent had the opportunity to previously if you think they are strong contenders for Best Pumpkin and Oktoberfest, their time in now!

Red Reporter Volefest Thursday Thread

Aight...I know word on the street is that young Vole arrives at CVG tomorrow.  Shortly afterward he is escorted to GABP by none other than Stat Guy.  Supposedly there is drinking afterwards, most likely at the Levee.

But this is all about Thursday. And we have bad news.  The OBC seats are NOT in Section 128.  In fact they're not even behind the Reds dugout.  They're actually behind the Mets dugout, Section 116.  Here's the real view

I know we have firm commitments from Vole and BK.  ManBearPig was the first to request the spare ticket and its confirmation time.  MBP, ya still in?  Per the usual we will meet at the bar at Brothers at Newport on the Levee.  Anyone attending the game is encouraged to attend the pregame festivities centered around discounted pints of Two Hearted Ale. Last time we went there Brother's was televising the replay of the Notre Dame spring football game.  Hopefully there is better viewing options this go round.

After the game I have to jet home to pick up the Mrs.  RR Trivia Night is going down at a location TBD, 8pm.  More details to be posted soon.

Red Reporter SIS - 2011 All Star Game Chatter, Ditch the Main Page ASG Thread edition

This is an unsanctioned game thread, not sponsored by RR or SB Nation.  Rally Cleavage is perfectly acceptable, in fact it will be encouraged during innings where Scott Rolen hits.  If moderately juvenile behavior and images offend you please take the opportunity to roll to the main page where, most likely, a more vanilla game thread experience will be posted for your enjoyment and participation.

Who's throwing out the ceremonial first pitch?  Which is worse, the Black Keys or Arcade Fire?  Where in the hell is this game being played this evening(i skipped the HR Derby broadcast)?  When will ESPN get the hint and retire Chris Berman from everything except nfl highlights on Prime Time? Has Barry Larkin set foot in Silverton since the Italianette opened 25 years ago?  And do you really trust ANYONE that doesn't absolutely love summertime???

Red Reporter la grande boucherie --- best rock n roll frontman

time to break up all the amateur draft fanposts with a little music chatter. its been a while since there has been a music related fanpost. local radio has been playing some interesting songs lately, and a random spin of yankee rose by david lee roth led to a spirited debate in the workplace about who the top ten frontmen of rock history were.

i was quite certain who the best of all time was. i thought it was a slam dunk, should be unanimous. needless to say it wasnt. no, it wasnt dlr...although id put him in the top ten comfortably.

so, who do you think are the greatest frontmen in history

Red Reporter Best Song Remakes ... Rec'd for the title!

i was listening to the mo egger show on cinco de mayo when the commercial bump music featured jimmy buffetts version of mexico, by james taylor. his female sidekick was teasing him for not knowing who sang the song was sung by but im not sure a large percentage of the population would have correctly identified the singer.  i think that song is one of jimmys better remakes and it got me to thinking what are the best remakes of songs of alltime...

one of the first songs i remember hearing and learning it was a remake was by the red hot chili peppers, higher ground. i had never heard the original version at that point in time.

if i have to pick one id probably go with jimmy hendrix....all along the watchtower. i almost went with jeff buckley....hallelujah. and, for the record, jimmy buffetts best adaptation of someone elses work is....gods own drunk.

rec your own favorites in the comment section.

Red Reporter where were you on 9/11?

i think there have only been a handful of times in my lifetime that i remember exactly where i was and what i was doing when something newsworthy happened. now, maybe some of yall have better memories and remember far more than i. i remember both space shuttle disasters, the reds winning the world series, and the tragedies at the wtc/pentagon/pennsylvania. im sure there are more, of course, but those are the big four i remember most clearly.

so.....where were you on september eleventh and what other events caused you to remember where you were when you heard the news.

Red Reporter Off Topic - Live Muzik edition

Sad news arrived to the homestead via the internets this week, it seems Jimmy Buffett fell off a stage in Australia and took a bit of a header which led to an overnight stay in a local hospital to recuperate.  It got me to thinking that maybe those that haven't seen Freddie and the Fishsticks might want to get out this summer and catch a live show.  The front man falling off stage, sober, is a red flag for aging musicians.  Time may well be of the essence for those of you who want to witness the Parrothead phenomenon in your lifetime. Life is short. Life is good (TM jch24).

This got me to thinking what other bands/solo artists are out there that i'd most like to see and stat rank them.  A couple years ago Eddie Vedder did a solo tour promoting the Into the Wild soundtrack.  He didnt come close enough to town for that to be a viable option.  Chris Cornell is currently releasing dates for a solo acoustic tour.  But ive seen both of those singers' parent bands several times...im not sure that counts as a seeing someone I havent seen yet.

So..........who would YOU want to see perform live that you havent seen before?????

U2?  (hat tip to whatshersname that used to post here)  Yeah, I would have loved to have seen them before the became a stadium act.  They're still on the short list, however.

Black Keys?  Pass.

Eminem?  Very close, if only for the Rabbity Blabbity song performance.

Toby Keith? Puh-lease...i have to admit being in Nashville this weekend the same timeframe he is playing The Grand Ole Opry is a tempting option.  How bad could it be???

Prince?  Definitely way up there.  A very underrated songwriter and musician despite his fame.  Im not sure id want to sit through 45 minutes of songs from the past ten years ive never heard played live.  But the man is a star.

But I think the winner would be Harry Connick, Jr.  Seriously.  I dig the old crooners, Frank and Dean O and Tony and Bing etc.  And I also dig Christmas music, play it all the time during the holiday season on the car radio and work soundsystem.  Therefore, I'm nominating a Harry Connick Christmas song concert as my selection of choice.

Unless I could convince Jack Johnson to play a solo acoustic set on the beach in Mexico, that is.  That would change things altogether.

Red Reporter SIS - Favorite Roller Coaster/Amusement Park Ride

Its summer in the city and approaching 90 degrees therefore the most logical thing to do for converted west and southsiders is to head northeast to (not Paramount's) Kings Island.  Its about time i got more use out of this family gold pass.  KI was my first job as a teenager and the park has really changed since those days.  The view from the Eiffel Tower last weekend really drove that home.

Timberwolf Ampitheatre looked barren and lonely.  I don't even remember hearing about concerts playing there and i certainly havent considered attending a show there in a decade plus.  Ahhhh, but that's where i first saw Jimmy Buffett (and Moody Blues, Kool and the Gang, Mike + the Mechanics, et all for the first time.  For $5 a concert, no less)

Today's task:  ride the Diamondback!

I haven't ridden it yet.  I'm kind of a roller coaster junkie and i'm looking forward to it.  I'm sure its going to be in the upper echelon of coasters. I still have The Beast at the top of the list and it will take an insane coaster to knock it off its perch.  I'm a tad sentimental and biased toward the ole wooden coaster, its probably the coaster ive ridden the most often.  (we're discussing taking a weekend and visiting Put in Bay and Cedar Point later this summer.  Cedar Point has reeeeee-diculous coasters and their new ones will seriously challenge The Beast, especially Top Fuel Dragster)

Sooooooo........what is your favorite rollercoaster/amusement park ride?  Why?

Red Reporter ORIGINAL BASEBALL CONTENT - Which Jerseys ya have?

Everyone here has already heard the wonderful tale of the Rosales jersey, which is currently the only Reds jersey I own.  Its game used, #58, and its already been retired to the back of the closet since the Reds are 0-2 in games I've worn it to this season.   The only Bengals jersey I currently own is a pristine KiJana Carter #32.  (I have a hard time buying "real" jerseys to wear to sporting events.  if they have a bite of sarcasm to it i feel it is more appropriate for a grown man to wear said jersey in public)

I'd sure like a retro '54 Chuck Harmon, but there probaly isnt a big market for that and it would be terribly expensive.  I'd have no problem dropping some decent coin on a Nuxie jersey.  I have also gained a great appreciation for Vada Pinson, in no small part to Caleb, and that wouldnt be a bad pickup.  I sure respect Ron Oester, flaws and all, more post-career considering how long he played for the Reds....yet i dont think ive ever seen a Ronnie O jersey at the ball orchard.

What Reds jerseys do you own?

Which Reds jerseys would you legitimately like to own?
