MLB.tv drops WMP 1.2MB stream

A year ago, I tried out MLB.tv and was blacked out of the wrong games. After hours on hold and terrible customer support, I cancelled and said I'd never go back. Well I signed up again today for the rest of the season, only to find that they've dropped the support for the 1.2mb stream unless you use the piece of crap Silverlight player. What's better yet, they deny ever providing another 1.2mb option. They are calling their customers liars and stonewalling them. So now I have to live with the 800k streams. I was so excited, too. I even used Faux's advice and got VLC set up, ready for the 1.2mb full-screen goodness. But now if I want 1.2, I have to use Silverlight's stuttering, double boxed hazy player. So frustrating!

I just don't understand how a company can treat people so terribly and keep getting away with it. Even in the thread, when caught in their own lies and presented with documentation and screenshots, they just keep on lying and telling people to clear their cache and defragment and stupid things like that. I kinda want to scream at someone. I should get back to work, just needed to vent.

DRaysBay vs RaysBay?

I bet this has been asked a ton, but...is there a reason that you're sticking with the D in your name? I was curious, so I did a search of your archives, and found this quote:

Yeah, but we're remaining DRaysBay
RaysBay is taken.
by R.J. Anderson on Nov 9, 2007 7:10 AM EST

I looked just now, and raysbay.com is open and available to register. Would there be any interest in changing the name now that the site is available? Or is it not worth the hassle?

Also, if this post is lame/redundant/spam, just say so and I'll delete it.

[I feel like I should introduce myself. I'm an Angels fan living in Seattle and I've taken refuge with the denizens of LookoutLanding. I, along with a lot of others from LL, greatly enjoy/envy the way the Rays front office is run, and I'm finding it very exciting watching a team with so much young talent maturing and beating up on the hated Red Sox and Yankees. I can't wait to see the Rays when they come into town in a few weeks, and will probably be wearing a Longoria shirt to the games.]

Mariners interested in Hatteberg

Richie Sexson was on the bench for a second straight night Wednesday amid rumors the club is actively pursuing longtime Yakima resident Scott Hatteberg, released by the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. Sexson has posted just a .197 on-base percentage so far in May.

Well, I guess this explains why Cairo was starting two nights in a row. I admit I was a bit confused by that when I was at the game last night, though I should know better than to be surprised by anything the Mariners management does.

Hatteberg's stats: http://www.baseball-reference.com/h/hattesc01.shtml

Woo .163/.262./.231 from 1B in the NL.

For reference, Sexson [.200/.277/.413], Cairo [.186/.250/.209]

Thought I'd share this with everyone, found the story via mlbtraderumors:

Seattle looking at Griffey

Excerpt for 75 words:

"If the Cincinnati Reds truly are interested in trading Ken Griffey Jr., well it appears the Seattle Mariners are more than interested.

Seattle’s Duane Schafer, a special consultant to the general manager, is in New York this weekend and his express assignment is to watch Griffey play."

Holy crap it's still not 75 words. Wait...there we go.

Bedard update

Didn't see this info from anywhere else, so I thought I'd share it here. I figure this info is ok to share here, because it's available on the non-member version of the page. From Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus:

"Torn labrum." That's what I'm hearing, but it's not what you're thinking. Bedard is having significant inflammation in his hip that one source tells me has been diagnosed as a small tear of his acetabular labrum. This shouldn't be a cause for panic; knowing that the injury is a small tear doesn't change the prognosis. The Mariners will need to reduce the inflammation and figure out if pitching is going to continue to irritate the injury. If it can't be controlled, Bedard will need surgery, which is normally minor and has a solid track record for returns. It would cost him a couple months, to be sure, but players like Derek Lowe and Justin Duchscherer have come back from the injury. The bigger question is when and how this happened. The M's will be hard at work trying to figure out how to get Bedard back out there and how to keep him back out there over the next ten days. (Calls to the Mariners for comment were not returned by press time.)

Baseball Prospectus on the M's and A's

Main point they get across is that the M's great record has to largely do with their excellent bullpen and losing in a few blowouts, while the A's have failed because they can't score runs in games which their starters are league average (give up 4 or 5 runs).
