Windy City Gridiron Last Post: One week left for Survivor Pool

Hey guys

Don't mean to take up a lot of space here, but I have been running a survivor pool for 4 years now.  WCG has graciously let me post here in the past a few times to drum up some interest and we have indeed gotten more than a few readers from the blog to participate.  Please note that this is not an official SBNation or WindyCityGridiron thing. Read on if you're interested in finding out more. Deadline is kickoff on Sunday, September 11th for sign-up and payment.

Windy City Gridiron Windy City Survivor Pool is back!

Hey guys

Windy City Gridiron Final Reminder for 2010 Survivor Pool!

Last year I posted about my survivor pool here and a few WCG readers signed up and played.  This is the third and final time I'll post on WCG this year to see if anyone else wants to play.  i think we're up to 4 or 5 WCG readers already.  The pot so far is up above $1500 and growing.  Read after the jump to find out what a survivor pool is and how to sign up.  With work being so hectic, I don't have time to manage a fantasy team so i started a pool like this as a much easier way to still stay involved with all the teams with a much smaller time and effort commitment.  Thanks for reading!

Windy City Gridiron Reminder and re-Post: Windy City Death Pool (win prizes!)

Just refreshing this as new readers come to the site during training camp!  Thanks again to Adam for letting me post this here on WCG.

-----------

Last year I posted about my survivor pool here and a few WCG readers signed up and played.  We went from 37 to 75 entries between years 1 and 2 of the pool.  This year, I expect a few more people will join than the 75 we had last year. I'm extending an invitation to all of you to play this year.

The rules, in a nutshell, are as follows:  Pick a team that you believe will win their week 1 game.  If you lose, you're eliminated.  If you win, you get to pick in week 2 and so on.  The catch?  You can't ever pick a team twice.  The last man standing wins the whole pot, which last year was just short of $2500.  The buy-in per entry (and you can buy up to 3) is $30 via PayPal or check.  The rules and signup info and payment info are right on the website - http://windycitypool.survivor.sportsfan.com.  Pass along to friends if you wish.

If anyone is interested and has any questions, please email me at windycitydeathpool@gmail.com for more information.  And FYI, all the money gets paid out.  This is just a hobby of mine and I'm not pocketing any of the funds for my own profit.  The website costs (about $50) come out of the entry fees.

Oh, Wilson. At least you sucked hard enough to be remembered. Don't settle for mediocrity when it comes to being terrible.

Also, this is NOT a WCG pool, this is totally off-site but he did let me post about it before.

South Side Sox Whither Bartolo Colon?

I was wondering if anyone had any information about Bartolo Colon.  I was thinking about where he was doing his "rehab" and how I hadn't seen anything written in the papers.  Yesterday, in the post-game, they mentioned that he was in Arizona working on stuff.  Does anyone know more?  Is Colon just working on his stuff and conditioning or is he recovering from a real injury?  I figure that with Clayton Richard probably on a short leash these days, Colon's status becomes important again even though I know they have Poreda ready to go.

Windy City Gridiron Rex On ESPN

Hey Guys.  I was working all day yesterday and missed the action.  Luckily, the Bears had a bye, but I wanted to see what Grossman had to say on the ESPN pregame show that he was co-hosting for the day.  Can anyone post a quick summary of what he discussed regarding the team and his performance last Monday?  Thanks

South Side Sox Jenks

In the rocky mountain news, they're claiming bobby has lost up to 10 mph off his fastball.  i haven't seen much written about him this spring, other than he's out of shape, and i haven't been able to watch any spring training games.

has anyone see him pitch and noticed a drop in his speed?  i heard on espn 1000 that ozzie said bobby was obviously out of shape, but he didn't mention anything about his velocity.  also, has he gotten his curve over yet?

Blog a Bull Fizer signed

With room at the end of their roster, the Sonics plan to use the rest of the season as an extended audition for minor-league basketball players. Seattle signed Marcus Fizer, who played with the Austin Toros in the NBA developmental league, to a 10-day contract on Wednesday and will re-sign Noel Felix to another 10-day deal next week.

I don't know how to use html to make it look nice and neat up there, but the point is that the shots/minute race just got tighter!

South Side Sox White Sox Ticket Sales

Ok, so after doing a bit of searching on the white sox website, i reached a few conclusions.

  1.  they are not selling any more 27 game plans
  2.  full season ticket plans for 2 seats - best available is bleachers on lower bowl and for upper deck, past first and third base.  this means that when tickets go sale friday, the only thing available in the lower bowl will be in the bleachers and in the upper deck it will be on corners.  of course, any season ticket holders got to buy tickets beforehand so all the good games will be bought up and there will be even less tickets.
  3.  it's going to be hard to get good seats this year.  looks like the upper deck for me.  unless they stumble out of the gate.  then i will buy them from bandwagon fans on the cheap.
I was wondering if my conclusions from my season ticket searches were correct.  if so, then the figure we saw earlier of 20,000 season tickets sold is a low number.  also, how do they take into account partial season ticket plans when counting number of season tickets sold?  thanks

Blog a Bull Marcus Fizer

Forgot to post this when it occurred, about 10 days ago but...

I was driving home along Grand Avenue when I had to stop for a car to park in front of me.  As the guy got out of the car, I knew that he seemed familiar.  Now I was at a stop light and kept watching this guy get out of his big Hummer or Mercedes Box SUV thing and then I realized it was Fizer.  I immediately rolled down the window and yelled "You Suck, Fizer!" due to force of habit.  He looked at me, the light turned green, and I drove away.

I don't think he's on an NBA roster anymore, but it made me think about what a horrible pick that was and how badly Krause got screwed when whatever deal he had made fell through.  Reminds me of the Bears drafting Benson even though a solid but unspectacular Jones is already in the fold.  Does anyone know if there was a specific reason other than poor play that no one is taking a chance on him?

Here's another Fizer story
