Jackets Rosterbation.
Yes this has been taken from Winging it in motown, but i figured it would be fun to come up with a potential roster for next year. Using Capgeeks Cap Calculator we are able to set up rosters and automatically calculate the salaries.
1st up my own Rosterbation.
Prospal 2.5 Brassard 3.2 Atkinson .875
Hudler 3.875 Johanson 1.975 Clowe 3.625
Umberger 4.6 Letestu .625 Dores 1.6
Gillies .625 Mackenzie .6 Russel .625
Calvert .9 Kubkalik .8
Whiskey 5.5 Johnson 4.3
Tyutin 4.5 Nikitin 2.5
Moore .925 Methot 3
Ajohnson .55 Prout .7
Niemi 3.8
Mason 2.9
York .875
Salary
57,784,000
Cap Space
6,516,000
I think that a possible trade with SJ could bring in Ryan Clowe, Antti Niemi, and a 1st round pick. and then Signing Jiri Hudler as a UFA. by no means a Playoff Juggernaut but i think with the situation they are in, with a rebuild it would be a step in the right direction to at least make the team respectable.
what to do with log jam down the middle?
So columbus trades for Jeff Carter, while some question the kind of chemistry he would have with nash there is no doubting his talent. with that said there seems to be a log jam at center with the likes of Brassard, Vermette phalsson and the possability of Johanson. so this brings the question, what do we do with all of these centers. sure there is the possability of letting vermette or brassard play on the wing but it is clear that they play much better at center especially with vermette and his faceoff abilities. sure we could ride out the year and let phalsson walk while having brassard and vermette center the 2nd and 3rd line. but that would drop Johanson down to the 4th possibliy slowing his developement. If johansson impreses at camp and shows he can play in the top 6 could we expect a trade? if so who and what could Columbus get? could we possibly trade brassard for say a top 4 d-man? or maybe a top 6 winger? what do you all think?
i need some catching up
ok so i have been away at lovely fort jackson for basic training i left just a couple days before the draft and i have been cut off from the outside world, so if possible can anyone give me a bit of a summery i have missed over the past 2 months i understand that they maybe getting close to a deal and that there maybe a season, but other than that i ahve missed alot. can you guys fill me in on the draft and how we did ( i don;t even know who we have gotten so that info would be good, as well as who we have may let go or retained and all that and any other news in the sports world i may have missed. i would apprieciate it.
i need some catching up
Ok so i have been away at Basic training since april. can you guys catch me up on whats been going on in the hoceky world. i missed the draft playoffs and Free agency. what trades have happend signings, anything like that? i understand Carter was traded for voracek and was not happy about it (can't say that i blame him) and that they got Whiskey (a guy in my platoon had the same name and since no one knew his name he was whiskey or ski so that is what i will call him here haha.) over paid a bit but will help the blue line. and i know that Commodore went to Detroit for a million (we'll see how it works out could be interesting) as did ian white interesting to say the least. but other than that i have missed out on a lot. who has been let go who has been brought in. so any info would begreat and i can get caught up and piss you guys off again!
What Columbus could get for Rick Nash
First off i know there is a less than 1% chance that rick nash gets traded, but after this year big chages are expected. ESPN rumors even went as far to say that Nash could be placed on the block this summer so here is the question. What could columbus get for Nash if he were to be traded, it could either be a package deal for say someone like Evgeni Malkin. or could be sent over for a package of Draft picks, prospects and roster players. Here is are a few trades that are plausable (although unlikely)
Rick Nash,Derrik Brassard to Pitt for Evgheni Malkin , Chris Kunitz.
Pitt gets their top line Winger to play with Crosby While Columbus gets their number 1 center. Pitt could also use Brassard on the third line and bump Staal to the 2nd while columbus could use Kunitz (primarily for cap relief for pit) on the 2nd or third line. Columbus would also keep Vermette on the 2nd line until Johanson is ready for that role (and either let vermette walk/trade or use him as a third line center giving columbus one of the deepest teams at Center) as for Wings Umberger Calvert Voracek and upshall and Kunitz are viable top 6 wings. assuming Calvert takes a step forward next year with a regular playing time. also keep in mind that the likes of Moreau and Clark will be leaving freeing up cap space.
Rick Nash To Atlanta for Zack Bogosian, Alex Burmistrov, 1st round pick.
Columbus gets a Defenseman with Elite Potential, a potential top 6 forward, and a most likly a good draft pick while droping nearly 8 million dollard worth of cap space. yes Bogosian is an RFA but i will bet he won't sign for more than 4 million dollars this year maybe 5 if who ever lands him wants to buy out some UFA years. thats still ALOT less than what nash will be making. and Juices 5 mill contract will be up after next year.
Again this is all just for a fun game of Armchair GM. try to make it somewhat possible (don't offer Nash for Crosby strait up because you know that won't happen) try to make package deals and as few strait up deals as possible to make it more fun, and explain why the trade is not completly impossible. and you MUST use rick nash to get the exciting Blockbuster deal.
Mike Tomlin
I would like to say that Mike Tomlin is probably the classiest Coach in all of sports. His press Conference after the game was probably the best one i have heard from a coach. He didn't blame the refs or the injuries, he just gave the perfect example of a classy press conference. And although im not much of a steeler fan ( i have a lot of friends are so i have to give them shit) i will say that i will root for Tomlin as long as he is not playing GB. he is a Great guy, Great coach, and i have all the respect in the world for him. Great game guys. see you all next year!
Not a troll just my opinion on the teams break down.
Yes i am a packer fan but i am not hear to troll or throw out ignorant trash talk. ( all teams have those fans Pitt included.) i just put my opinion on Sundays match ups. ( the key ones i didn't get into great depth. and i just wanted to see you're opinion. and as long as you are respectful on this post i will be the same. ( but if you are a douche i will bring the hurt.)
now first off. excuse my grammer. its late and i just typed it up from a comments section on espn. but here is my break down position by position of each team ( not every single position by the main points) lets here what you think.
QB Rodgers VS Rothlisberger. although Ben has the Experience i think Aaron edges him on the pure Talent. tough to say.
RB Starks vs Mednenhall. Starks has had a handful of solid games but i will give the edge to mendenhall.
WR Jennings Driver Jones Nelson vs Ward Wallace ( having a brain fart on the other 2 WRs) Packers win. Moderately close but green bay has the best receiving corps in the league.
TE Crabtree/Quareless. v Miller. Had Finley been in this game it would be a bit closer but edge goes to Miller and Pitt.
OLine. although both are suspect at times i will choose Steelers by the smallest margin.
NG Raji vs Hampton. another close call. i give hampton the SLIGHT nod. but Raji is emerging in a big way.
OLB Mathews and ( hell i don't know anymore i think Walden is the starting OLB now.) vs Woodley and Harrison. i will give the nod again to the steelers. but its another close call.
MLB Farrier vs Bishop/Hawk. Although Farrier is the bigger name. and has the slight edge Hawk and Bishop are closer than they appear.
DE Jenkins Vs Smith- Jenkins when healthy is a force. Smith is no slouch either. I give Jenkins the edge.
CB- Williams Woodson Shiels V Taylor Mcfadden. Woodson is the top 3 best CBs in the game. and Williams is emerging as a shut down corner. although Taylor and McFadden are no slouches, Green bay wins this battle heavily.
Collins v Polamalu. Of corse Troy edges Collins. but not as much as one would think. but Troy wins this battle
Preprah v - Peprah is like the 4th string Saftey. Pitt Wins this battle pretty heavily.
STs- No doubt Steelers Green bays ST is terrible
Punter- Kapinos v Masthey. Kapinos was let go by green bay last year and for good reason. Masthey edges this one
Kicker.Mason vs Shuisum. Neither are big time kickers. i give them a tie.
I will man up
again as said in another post its late and i don't have time to proof read so excuse my grammer.
Earlier in the year i was one of the people Screaming for McCarthy to be canned. I was frustrated, annoyed and saw several flaws in him. but with only a few days from green bays 4th super bowl, i will give MM his credit. His Play calling has been much better (still not perfect) and the penalties have gone way down. Now i will also say that he is not perfect by any means. but i guess, as much as it pains me to say this, Green bay could do worse than McCarthy. ( i just threw up in my mouth a little.)
With that said i am sure i will call for his head again next year, but just let me blow off some steam when that happens. and don't give me to much flak.
Go Pack!

What should i do?
Hilarious!!!
The Reason for Barnett beats out Hawk
i have noticed that one of the biggest topics as of late is who should Green Bay keep? AJ Hawk? or Nick Barnett? Well here is where i see things Barnett maybe getting a little bit older (but he isn't THAT old and injuries have gotten to him the past few years but also take into account this. Barnett is the vocal leader of this Defense. Sure you all can say woodson is but he is more the VETERAN leader not as much as the Vocal leader that barnette is. So with that in mind i think that should give the slight edge over hawk, while solid is not worth the 10 million he is set to make next season. nor has he lived up to his pick (although that is just a VERY VERY minimal impact) while the talent isn't that big of a difference ( i give the slight edge to Barnett) i think the Leadership that barnett brings should be the deciding factor. but this is just my opinion.
I am a man of my word. and Credit where credit is do.
ok so it is like 2 in the morning here so im just going to run through this quickly.
Last week, i came on here and said that i would talk about the team (coaching) if we won or lost. so here is what i have to say.
MM actually called a decent game ( saying that makes me want to throw up) that onside kick to start the game was a ballsy move ( had this been a game we were expected to win it would have been stupid but they were playing like they had nothing to lose) and keeping it conservative for most of the game with a few deeper plays here or there was a great game plan. Kuhn and Jackson played a great game as well as Flynn.
Now that i gave my praise to McCarthy ( as if that ment anything...) i will say i still think he should be let go ( or atleast taken away his playcalling.) because as said before im not going to base my opinion off of one game. he STILL needs to do something about special teams. (weather it be firing the ST coach or something) that kick return by a GUARD was embarrassing. and the time managment at the end of the game was HORRENDOUS. i blame that partially on Flynn but also on McCarthy for waiting 10 seconds for the time out and all of the confusion on the field. he should have had that figured out during the last time out.
now im sure McCarthies parents will come in to defend their little boy but i said my opinion and thats all i can do.
It is time for McCarthy to walk.
i do not see what anyone else sees in his coaching abilities. he is a terrible play caller, He challenges stupid plays and doesn't challenge the important ones. he has made the playoffs only twice since coming in ( they won't make the playoffs this year they will be luck to go 9-7) his team is normally top 3 in penaltys every year. he just is NOT a good coach, with how much talent this team has they should be at least the 2nd seed. now it is VERY possible that they go 8-8 ( if they lose to NE NYG and CHI) which is VERY VERY possible. let him walk and bring in Cower, Gruden or Fox. this team is not going anywhere with McCarthy leading the team.
Quick to Columbus?
I understand that this happening would be a HUGE long shot. but it is something to talk about. i just don't think Mason is the Goaltender of the future. i see a Jose Theodore written all over him. so here is what i suggest. If down the road Bernier eventually takes the number 1 job away from Quick. (which isn't out of the question.) offer up Mason and a wing ( i think juice would be the best bet.) for Quick and a 3rd round pick. ( bump Umberger to the right wing on the first or second line) i think that would still leave C bus with 6 top 6 forwards and a significant upgrade in Goal. so the top 6 would like like
Nash Vermette Voracek
Filatov Brassard Umberger
Moareu Phalsson Clark
Dorsette Murry Boll.
Quick
Garon.
Thoughts?
Penalties!!!
I'm sorry but i am getting really sick of being the most penalized team in the NFL. and McCarthys response? he doesn't care if they take penalties. 3 holding penalties that negates points ( A touchdown) is just plan stupid. he really needs to hold players responsible for the penalties or i think its time for GB to look for a new coach. now im not a TT hater but i think hiring McCarthy over Sean Peyton was his biggest blunder yet. Yes including the Harrel Pick.
TJ Whosyourmama???
it is expected that Seattle will let Housh go. but his contract stats that what ever his new contract doesnt cover Seattle will still have to cover the remainder of what he would be owed. That means this year he will sign for the Veterans League Min of 875,000 ( i think) for one year. i don't know about you all. but having him as the third reciever behind Jennings and Driver just sounds AWESOME and then keep Nelson and Jones as the 4th and 5th receivers i cant see any team coming close to that. now dont get me wrong if he wouldn't get any thing from seattle id say let him walk, but what do you feel about Green Bay bringing in Housh at league min?
a more optimistic approach to Cbus
Huseilous 26 Vermette 28 Nash 38
Filatov 24 Brassard 18 Voracek 22
Moareu 9 Phalsson 4 Umberger 25
Boll 4 Dorsset 6 Clark 14
Commodore 3 Russel 6
Hejda 2 Klesla 6
Stralman 8 Tyutin 7
Here are my predicted GOAL totals for this up coming season
For a combined total of 250 goals. That would put them 6th in the league this year. Not too shabby. Combined that with a predicted 2.8 goals against almost 230 (rounding up) that is a differential of 20 goals for. ( although that would put them around 19th or 20th this year) with that said I think being in the west hurts them a lot ( a lot tougher teams in the west than the east) so I cant say for sure that Cbus will be a playoff team. But with these statistics ( again predictions) I think cbus will at the very least stay competitive. And perhaps make the playoffs as a 8th-6th seed.
Your thoughts?
