The Celtics looked slow and old in the second half of game 1. They allowed way too many dunks and open layups. They had their shots blocked 11 times. The Heat beat them to loose balls and rebounds. They were able to hang with the Heat through the first 2 quarters in spite of a slow start, but were outplayed in the second half in just about every area.

The officiating was horrible in game 1 but that wasn't the reason the Celtics lost. The blocked shots were mostly a result of the Celtics driving to the hoop and looking for the foul instead of finishing strong. They have to stop looking for the refs to bail them out and look to score instead. Their offense was also very sluggish and they weren't moving the ball and just didn't seem focused.

Ray Allen is a shell of himself. He has become a liability on defense and his struggles are very clearly seen on the free throw line where he was just 3-7. He was also just 1-7 from the field. We know that he will hit some big shots at some time or other as he did in game 7 vs Philly. Doc has got to decide whether what he can add now is greater than his limitations in the game. Might it be time to rest Ray and play Pietrus or Dooling in his place. Both are better on defense and both can stretch the floor with their offense.

The Celtics have had a day off to rest after being embarrassed in game 1. It was not just the loss, but the showboating and the gloating and the taunting by the Heat. We know that they are a proud team and that they have a lot of heart. They have proved that this season in playing through all the injuries and all that has gone on this season. But the question remains do they have the legs and can they physically match up with a much younger and more athletic Heat team.

The Celtics finally have made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. There were times against the Sixers when it seemed like they might not make it, in spite of being heavily favored in that series. Now, absolutely no one is picking the Celtics to win this series. One big reason is the loss of Avery Bradley who proved to be the Wade stopper this season. Without him and with Ray struggling, it seems to be an uphill battle in spite of the fact that the Heat are not expected to have Bosh in this series.

There will be no breaks in this series and games are scheduled for every other night. There will be questions about the Celtics age and whether they will have enough left after a tough 7 game series in the semifinals to pull this one out. One thing I know is that you never underestimate the heart of a champion. This Celtics team has pride and they will reach down deep and fight to the end, win or lose.

The Celtics will need to get production from their bench, which hasn't been all that productive so far. The Heat's bench is weak and if the Celtics can get some points, rebounds and defense from their bench, that could be a huge advantage.

One thing the Celtics must watch out for is the Heat's thuggish behavior. They broke Rondo's arm last season to get past the Celtics and they showed their true selves in the Indiana series with a couple of very hard flagrant fouls that could have easily injured a player.

The Celtics beat the Hawks without home court and then had home court in the Philly series, which was great to have with the series going to a game 7. Once again, the Celtics will start the series on the road. They are going to need to win in Miami in order to win the series. Unlike in their championship season, they were able to win on the opponents' court in both of their first 2 series this year. Hopefully they can do it again in this series.

The Celtics need Rondo to play his best in every game because as we have seen so many times, when Rondo has an off game, so does the entire team. The regular season, where the Celtics won the series 3-1, doesn't mean anything now. The Celtics can win this series, but it won't be easy. Then again, when has this team ever liked anything that was easy?

The Celtics have blown several chances to close this series out and rest up for the next round and so here we are at another game 7. The Heat, on the other hand, are the team sitting back and getting rest while the Celtics duke it out tor the privilege to play again on Monday in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Celtics were dealt a big blow when they lost Avery Bradley for the rest of the post season. Other players must step up to help fill the void he leaves, especially on defense. The Celtics especially need both Keyon Dooling and Mickael Pietrus to step up and give the Celtics some quality minutes. They also need Ray Allen's balky ankles to ease up enough to allow him to play well in this game.

This Celtics team is well acquainted with game 7's, the Sixers, not so much. Having game 7 at home is one bonus for the Celtics. The crowd will be loud and behind them. Hopefully it will give them a lift. Another bonus is the fact that they have had 2 days off and the Celtics play best on more than one day rest. Home court in itself isn't a guarantee of a win. The Celtics have already lost at home to the Sixers once in this series. They can't just depend on being at home, they have to be the team that plays harder and smarter.

The series moves once again to the Wells Fargo Center. The Celtics won one big game in Philly and played a great half in another. They have a chance to close out this series now and get some rest before the next series. The Sixers are playing for their playoff lives and if the Celtics want to win this game, they have to match that effort and intensity. The wily KG has added another wrinkle to playing in Philly with his comments about "fairweather fans" and will probably use their boos as motivation. But then again in the previous games there were a lot of Celtics fans in the arena also.

Injuries are still the topic of conversation for the Celtics. Avery Bradley missed game 5 and will be a game time decision for this game. Doc isn't expecting him to play. Ray Allen stepped back into the starting lineup but clearly isn't 100% and has been playing through pain. He rolled his ankle in game 5 but has pronounced himself good to go for this one. Paul Pierce is still struggling with the sprained MCL and has been up and down in the series but you'll never hear him use the knee as an excuse. Greg Stiemsma aggravated his foot injury in game 5 but also has said he will play in this one. All of them need to somehow play through the pain one more time and then they can get a little rest.

The Sixers are going to be a desperate team and will put it all out there in this game. The Celtics can't afford to settle and must be focused and aggressive. They have to remember ubuntu and they have to play with passion and the same intensity that the Sixers play with.

We haven't heard about ubuntu for awhile but they brought back that concept after halftime of game 5 when a sermon by "Reverend" Dooling reminded them to play for each other. It gave the Celtics the boost they needed to get the win. It would be very good for them to remember ubuntu in this game as well. Teamwork and playing for each other is a great concept and it works!!

They have to be more focused, especially on the road. The Celtics are capable of winning in Philly. They proved that in game 3. The Sixers are a very dangerous team because they have nothing to lose and are playing with a lot of heart. The Celtics need to close this series out with a win in this game. They don't want to let the series go to a 7th game because you never know what can happen.

The Celtics have to be kicking themselves for giving up an 18 point lead in game 4. This could be the close out game and they could be looking forward to getting some rest before the next series, especially with the Heat series now also tied at 2. The Celtics are now in for a fight to win the next 2 out of 3.

The Celtics can't blame anyone except themselves for that loss. They got complacent and eased up on their defense. They also allowed the Sixers to crash the boards and get second chance points. They got sloppy with the ball and turned it over, allowing the Sixers to get fast break points.

The Celtics have been saying all the right things to indicate that they are taking this game seriously and they are focused on getting the win. The Celtics must do more than talk it, they have to come out focused and stay focused throughout the game. They have to avoid the let downs that have plagued them so far in this series and play team ball from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Most of all, they can't let up on defense.

Nagging injuries to Pierce, Allen, Bradley, Stiemsma, and Pietrus have slowed them down. The most troubling is Bradley who has a recurring shoulder injury that is limiting his ability to score. He is still effective on defense but hasn't been able to hit his shots or cut to the basket, which made him so effective before the injury. Paul Pierce seems to be playing well in spite of the injury and hopefully that will continue in this game. Ray Allen seems to struggle the most, even missing free throws, which usually are automatic for him. The Celtics have had 2 days off and that should help them.

The Celtics should be dominating this series but they aren't mostly because they have not been playing good basketball. In the one game they actually played hard and seemed focused, they got a blow out win. Let's hope that same focused team comes out in this one.

The Celtics finally played like they wanted to win in game 3. Doc said that it started with a very focused Rondo in the shoot around. We have seen so many times that as Rondo goes, so go the Celtics. And Rondo was aggressive from the start and the team followed his lead.

Rondo has said that he is ready to bring it in game 4 as well and hopefully he follows through. Kevin Garnett has found the a time machine because he is playing better than he has since 2008. He was seen at the practice facility on the team's day off putting up shots. Paul Pierce has struggled with a knee injury but showed little effects from it in game 3. He wore a brace at the shoot around but said that he will probably do without the brace for the game. The Celtics will need an aggressive Paul Pierce again to get another win on the road.

Ray Allen, Avery Bradley, Mickael Pietrus and Greg Stiemsma are also playing through injuries for the Celtics. Ray took just 1 shot in game 3 but he pulled down 4 rebounds and was very active and helped to spread the floor. Avery is struggling with his shoulder and it's affecting his shot, but he still plays that bull dog defense that the Celtics need. Mickael Pietrus has finally found his shot and was 3-4 from beyond the arc in game 3. He has also been playing great defense in spite of the sore hamstring. Stiemsma has lost much of his playing time to Hollins but he still is capable of coming in and changing shots and grabbing rebounds.

Teams that are up 2-1 win the series 82% of the time. The Celtics can't get complacent though. They need to come out and play game 4 with the same intensity that they played game 3 and get the series over with quickly and then let their injuries heal before the next series.

The series now moves to the Wells Fargo Center. The Celtics have to pick up at least one game in Philly after giving up home court in the game 2 loss at home.

The Celtics have played very poorly so far in the first two games. They have struggled shooting. They have struggled on defense. They have gotten down by double digits in both games. They have seemed as though they were coasting though most of both games.

Injuries could be playing a part in both the shooting woes and in the lack of cohesion on many of the plays. Pierce is obviously not 100% and has been front rimming the majority of his shots. Bradley's shoulder has been painful and could be altering his shot as well as affecting his play. Pietrus has had hamstring problems. Ray's ankles have definitely been affecting his shot. For a player who has always been automatic from the line, he is shooting just 66% on his free throws in the playoffs so far.

Theories have ranged from guessing that the Celtics feel they can just flip the switch at any time to the fact that they are taking the Sixers for granted and feel they can beat them without 100% effort. Whatever the problem has been in the past, it has to be clear that the Celtics must give a better effort from the start and not just turn it on in the 4th quarter. Doc also has to take a share of the blame for some questionable decisions in game 2.

They have to be more focused, especially on the road. The Celtics are capable of winning in Philly and they are capable of playing much better than they have been so far in the series. The Sixers have been playing with great effort and the Celtics haven't matched it. Doc has said that he plans to change the offense to try to get Pierce going with more screens and posts for him. With the stakes getting higher, it's time for the Celtics to up their effort and take control of the series. If they don't, they could find themselves going back to Boston in a 1-3 hole.

The Celtics have to feel lucky that they pulled out the win in game 1. Philly led for most of the game and the Celtics struggled for three quarters. They were very sluggish to start the game and didn't look like they were actually trying until the second half. Injuries could influence their play, but since they were able to turn it on in the second half, it seems to be more of an effort thing.

They have to know that it would be very dangerous to come out slow and allow the Sixers to hang around for a second game in a row. One of these times that strategy will come back to bite them. The Celtics need to come out strong from the beginning and establish the pace of the game.

Pierce and Allen will still struggle with the injuries and hopefully they can also continue to play through them and be effective in their minutes on the court. All 15 players participated in the shootaround and are expected to play in this game. Rondo needs to give an effort from the start. It didn't seem as though he took the game seriously until after the half in game 1. Bass and Pietrus have struggled in the playoffs so far and it would be great to see them get on track finally.

Hopefully the Celtics decide to come out and play from the start in this game and not tempt fate two games in a row. It's great they pulled out the win in game 1 but they are capable of so much more in this game if they only put forth the effort.

As we begin this series, we can just throw out the regular season in which the Sixers were 2-1 vs the Celtics. The Celtics won by 24 points on their home court while the Sixers won by 13 and 32 in Philly. What makes the regular season especially different from this series is that in each of the regular season games, the Celtics were playing in back to back games (including one after an OT game on the road) and Philly was off the night before each. Besides that, we know that the playoff Celtics are a different breed from the regular season Celtics.

While in the Celtics' first round series, both teams were affected by injuries, it's a different story in this series. The Sixers come into this series healthy and with no injuries listed. The Celtics on the other hand come into the series bruised and battered with Pierce (knee), Allen (ankle), Stiemsma (feet), Bradley (shoulder) and Pietrus (hamstring) all nursing injuries. I'm not sure if the Sixers are harbingers of bad luck but teams that play them seem to end up with injuries. The Bulls lost Rose, Noah and Gibson all to injuries in their first round series. The last time the Celtics played the Sixers in Philly, Mickael Pietrus had to be taken off the court on a stretcher. Not a good track record on their part.

Both teams are coming off a 6 game series. Both teams won their series without home court. Because the Sixers are the 8th seed, the Celtics will have home court in this series. Twelve out of twelve of the ESPN "experts" picked the Celtics to win this series. Most believe the Celtics are the better team but injuries may end up being a factor. The Celtics especially need Paul Pierce to be effective and to play well.

Don't expect a lot of bulletin board material from the Sixers. I have a feeling that after hearing KG's press conference, Doug Collins called his players in and threatened them to within an inch of their lives not to say anything negative about the Celtics. I listened to Andre Iguodala on ESPN Radio and you would think he was doing PR for the Celtics. No, KG isn't dirty. He's just passionate and a great player. No, the Celtics aren't old. They are experienced. Doc is the best coach in the league. The Celtics are all wonderful. Not even a hint of anything negative. Lou Williams also came out saying that Rondo is his favorite guard in the league.

It will be important for the Celtics to get off to a quick start in this game and in the series. They have to come out strong, hit the Sixers hard, and never look back. If they let the Sixers gain confidence, it could be a very tough series.

Here we are at game 6. The Celtics wasted a big opportunity to move on to the second round and get some rest along the way by letting game 5 slip away from them. For whatever reason, the Celtics never played their best in game 5 and let the Hawks hang around and pull out a 1 point win. They didn't show any signs of the intensity of a team that wanted to close out the series and get some rest.

The Hawks made a change in their starting 5 and brought out a big line up to start that game and since they were successful with it, will more than likely start the same lineup with Joe Johnson slipping to the 2, Marvin Williams starting at the 3 and the very healthy looking Al Horford starting at center. With this bigger lineup, they beat the Celtics on the boards and in the paint and they also beat the Celtics on hustle.

The Celtics need to approach game 6 with the mindset of game 7. They absolutely don't want to face this Hawks team in a game 7 on their home court. While the Celtics seem to be more banged up as the series goes on, it appears that the Hawks are getting healthier. There was no sign of rust or hesitation from either Smith or Horford. On the other hand, Paul Pierce was hesitant and a step slow all night, shooting 7-17 from the field and at times walking gingerly because of a sprained MCL. Avery Bradley also played hesitantly with his sore shoulder.

The Celtics have given the Hawks some life and now it's time to snuff out any hope that they can win this series. The Celtics must come out strong and leave no doubt who the better team is. They can't give them a reason to think they can hang around and pull out another win. This is a must win game and the Celtics need to play like it from the opening jump to the final buzzer. The longer the Celtics allow the Hawks to hang around in this series, the more dangerous they become.

The Celtics could close this series out with a win in this game. The prospect of getting some rest before facing either the Sixers or the Bulls should be enough motivation for the them to get this done. After the beat down that the Celtics gave the Hawks in game 4, the Celtics need to keep their momentum and come out focused and ready to play and then sit back and wait for their second round opponent.

After 3 so-so games, the Celtics finally showed what they are capable of with a dominant blow out win in game 4. Hopefully the Celtics come out with the same mindset and put the Hawks away early because letting them hang around and gain confidence would be a big mistake. We've seen that the Hawks can be a dangerous team if the Celtics don't play their best. They are going to be desperate in this game and even though the Celtics are up 3-1 in the series, the Celtics also need to play desperate. If they give the Hawks some confidence, you never know what could happen.

The talk of this series is still about injuries and who will and won't play. On the Celtics side, we can add Paul Pierce to the walking wounded after game 4. Paul Pierce (knee), Avery Bradley (shoulder), Ray Allen (ankle), Mickael Pietrus (hamstring), and Greg Stiemsma (feet) are all expected to play, but the injuries can take their toll and slow them down a bit, especially as the games wear on. That's why the Celtics must come out strong like they did in game 4 and take control right from the start.

For the Hawks, they got an unexpected return from Al Horford in game 4 but it didn't give them the boost they had hoped for. He played well after being out for so long, but was obviously not 100%. Josh Smith also returned after missing game 3 and played well, but seemed to be half a step slow at times. Both should play better in this game. There have also been rumors that Zaza Pachulia might make a return in this series as well. It seems that the longer the series goes on, the healthier the Hawks get and the more banged up the Celtics get.

It may sound strange to think of a game 5 as must win when you are up 3 games to 1, but this one pretty much is just that. In the playoffs, every game becomes must win as you never know what is going to happen if the series goes the distance, especially with an older team that is playing a younger and more athletic team. The Hawks know they need this game and will play hard. The Celtics also need this one and so hopefully they will match that effort.

Coming into game 4, the major talk from both teams concerns injuries. Ray Allen came back to play a big part in game 3 but after playing 37 minutes in that game, he said that his ankle was "mad at him." He made it through shoot around and word is that he will play in this one. Even more concerning for the Celtics, though, is the fact that Avery Bradley left game 3 with a shoulder injury and is a question for this game. He also went through shoot around but is listed as a game time decision. If Avery can't go, either Ray or Pietrus could get the nod to start. And, of course, there are Greg Stiemsma's feet and the wear and tear of big minutes on the starters in the last game.

On the Hawks side, Josh Smith is expected to play in this one, but with a knee problem, it remains to see how effective he can be since his game relies on his athleticism. Pachulia has been day to day and there have been rumors that we could see him and even Horford to try to give the Hawks a boost but neither is expected for this game. . Tracy McGrady was one of their best players in game 3 but left the game after turning his ankle. Although he returned to the game, he wasn't quite the same the rest of the way. He's expected to play in this game.

The Celtics were able to get a split in Atlanta to win back home court and so they need to take care of business at home and not give the advantage back to the Hawks. The last game was way closer than it should have been with Smith out, but the Celtics seemed to be casual about it, allowing the Hawks to hang around and force an overtime. Thankfully they finally played with a bit more passion in OT to pull out the win.

The Celtics as a team have struggled with their offense in the series so far. They shot 46% from the field during the season but have been averaging 41% in this series. The Hawks allowed 44% in the regular season but I'm not sure the Celtics shooting woes are the result of Hawks defense, but rather it's just the Celtics missing shots they usually make. It could be focus or it could just be tired legs. The Hawks, on the other hand, are shooting 41% as well, which is right around what the Celtics allowed in the regular season.

The Celtics need to come out focused in this game and play smart basketball. The longer they let the Hawks hang around the more dangerous they become. The Celtics need to take care of this game at home and do it in convincing fashion.

The Celtics return home with the series tied 1-1. They have wrested home court advantage back from the Hawks and now they must hang on to it and take advantage of playing at home before what should be a very loud home crowd.

They have had 2 days off and should be recharged and ready. Rondo will be back and should be raring to go after his suspension and knowing that his teammates had his back in game 2. The momentum has swung back to the Celtics after their big win. Losing to a Rondo-less Celtics team, after leading by 11 in the 3rd quarter has to have the Hawks a bit demoralized.

Injuries are still the topic of the day for both teams. Josh Smith left game 2 and has been diagnosed with patellar tendonitis and has been upgraded to a game time decision but has been ruled out for tonight's game. . Marvin Williams or Ivan Johnson is expected to start in his place if he can't go. Pachulia is still listed as day to day while Horford is still out although the Hawks coach has hinted that he might play in the series. For the Celtics Ray Allen is still day to day and was able to go through a full practice on Thursday. Hopefully the ankle won't swell again after the practice. It would be a huge boost if he could play even limited minutes.

The Celtics need to take care of of their house. They can't afford any more sluggish starts or loss of focus if they expect to win this series. They have shown they are the better team and will win if they stay focused. It's time to get serious and bring Gino out for this one.

The Celtics come into this game short handed. With Rondo out, they are missing their engine. Others will have to step up their game to make up for his absence. Keyon Dooling and Avery Bradley will especially have to pick it up. Paul Pierce is another player who may take on more of the ball handling duties as well. He had a poor shooting game 1 and so is due to bounce back for a good one in game 2.

Ray is still considered day to day but there isn't a lot of optimism that we will see him in this game (or any other, for that matter), although they sure could use him. Pietrus will start in the back court with Bradley to make up for Rondo's absence. I imagine that we will see more of Sasha or maybe even Moore in this game off the bench. Remember when Doc said that one of the subs would have to come up big for us at some point in the playoffs? Well that time has come sooner than later.

The Celtics must come out with a better effort to start the game. They came out flat in game 1 and dug a hole that they never could dig their way out of. They have to come out strong and jump on the Hawks right from the start. And they have to play hard right until the final buzzer.

I expect the Celtics to pull together and have a better game. They have been here before, playing without their point guard or other key players. They have proved in the past that they can overcome adversity with heart. They are 8-5 without Rondo this season and hopefully they can pull together and make it 9-5 after this game.
